Is it possible for me to be reassigned to some ship? The last I heard was that I was on a diplomatic mission..

All of the big warships (Frigate-sized and larger) are taken, for now. We have Fighters available, FACs (Fast Attack Craft), five Light Carriers that are awaiting refitting and won't be involved in battle for a few years, and some miscellaneous vessels such as Space Marine Drop Ships, Troop Transports, Tankers, Decoy Vessels, Freighters, Colony Ships, Scout Ships, Recce Ships, etc. People who take a smaller, unarmed ship will usually end up being moved to a warship when the Navy expands again.

I prefer to think they were Prix missiles, which probably can travel that fast, rather than they'refrom a new alien species. Because another alien civilization that's even more advanced than Prix might mean trouble. For a starter, they could expand and jump-drive...
Besides, I think it would be quite rare to find a newly-created alien race that would be that advanced. Unless they're the original NPR that's been expanding for the last 2 decades...

If they were an advanced alien race... how do you explain our scout's survival? He's flying a 4200-ton, TCS 84 ship, which is exactly what those sensors were tuned for (res-85). He has no armor, weapons or shields, and only moves at one-tenth that speed (6,000 kps). Why isn't he dead? Even a Prix warship would have killed him with 100% certainty.

... so whatever that was, it strikes me as puzzling rather than dangerous. Anything even as dangerous as the Prix would have killed him, and we've reached the point in our development where we eat Prix warships for breakfast.

I too suspect old Prix missiles, left in orbit as a trap. The scout just didn't come close enough to set off the trap.

Don't have a preference, what makes the most sense :)

We're going to be using the Marine's Drop Ships in our planetary invasion mission coming right up... so I'll put you in charge of one of them for now. When the Assault Carriers are ready in a few years (Light Carriers converted to carrying Assault Boats for planetary invasions), you can move to one of them, if you like.

EDIT: I have placed you in command of the Marine Drop-Ship ESND Thunder, as a Commander.

Bwa-ha-ha-ha... AFTER having evaded the trap and escaped, my scout's EM sensor just broke down. Glad that didn't happen a few days ago.

A new civilian shipping line has been formed, our third. A new Missile scientist has joined our establishment, our second.

EDIT: There are now 615 automated mines on Moria, with an annual output of more than 138,000 tons of minerals. For comparison, the construction of a 20,000-ton Battlecruiser requires about 5,000 tons of minerals.

Shipyard #2 has finished retooling for the Attitude-III class, and the ESN Aggressive, ESN Belligerent and ESN Defiant have been taken into drydock for conversion from Attitude-II to Attitude-III standard.

Plastics? Supplies? Wooden furniture? Also don't forget the swimming pool! Ten thousand tons of water, so the commodore can take his morning swim! :)

"Tons" is used interchangably to represent both mass and displacement (volume). Also, this:

The game only keeps track of the special "trans-newtonian elements". I guess there's still plenty of steel and aluminium on those ships.

Plastics? Supplies? Wooden furniture?

Have you any idea how many cheeseburgers a ship's crew can eat during a five-month mission?

I have to say this is a great thread Emu! I've been deep into Aurora for a couple of weeks, this thread is responsible. Damn you, it's another Dwarf Fortress!

I'd love a ship if possible, perhaps one of the new Blink class? ESN Sauron?

You have been assigned to command the Blink class Fast Recon Vessel ESN Alacrity.

Our forces are gathering in the Gliese 229 system, at the jump point to 82 Eridani. When all are assembled, we will jump through and assault the three Prix-held worlds in that system. The last two Battle-II rebuilds have finished in time to join the expedition (making six in total), and the first of the Bayonet class Assault Shuttles has also been finished in time to take part in troop trials against the Prix worlds. It will be carried into the system by the still-unconverted Assault Carrier ESN Etna. The 820th Marines will ride it down, while the Heavy Assault units and Mobile Infantry attack via Drop Pods from the Drop Ships ESND Thunder and ESND Lightning.

Excellent, a promotion and a newly upgraded capital ship to go with it :) One with a storied history, too. I'll make sure to live up to it. Can some one direct me to the stats for a Battle-II? I'm keeping a record of all my commands.

Let's see what the Prix can do to resist an invasion. Hopefully not a lot, because it could get real messy if they had short range ASMs.

The refits to Mountain-III have begun. ESN Krakatoa and ESN Stromboli have entered drydock for conversion to Assault Carriers. The conversions will take 21 months.

Our second Bayonet Assault Shuttle has been completed, and three more are on the ways.
