Just my 2 cents, but damn is there an over-usage of acronyms on the EUIV forums. It's seriously hard to read a lot of threads because they are filled with acronyms. I guess that means I'm still a n00b, and I accept that. I've only had the game for a few weeks. But I've had a nasty sinus infection for most of that time, which has allowed me to clock in around 100 hours played already. And I still have no idea what folks are talking about most of the time.

Why am I posting this? Just to hopefully raise a bit of awareness with folks that acronyms are difficult to follow for "the uninitiated" and even the somewhat initiated... and to hopefully see their use minimized.

That is all. :)

I especially love the ones that are multifunctional, like MP!

"It's not a waste to spend MP on increasing MP in MP."

I try not to use initialisms in the quick questions thread, unless I've already mentioned the full version in the same post, but I'll try and pay more attention to not overusing them outside of that thread as well :p

Are you spending military points or all monarch points increasing MP in MP?

That's why I try to expand them in 99% of the situations. Aggressive Expansion versus AE and such.

I remember when I first joined the forums - same problem.

This is the best example when not to use acronyms.

MP is annoying. Also, some people who refer to the AI as IA... Unobvious tag names should also be avoided, since they are just in the scripts.

Other than that, acronyms are good. Less writing and reading, plus it makes clear you are referring to a mechanic, rather than e.g. military power in the general sense. When in doubt you can always ask.

Over the years I have started avoiding acronyms more and more, unless I feel there's effectively no chance they will alienate people. I have no problem using EUIV on this forum, for example. But I'd rather have what I write be understandable over concise, so I usually find it worthwhile to type the extra letters to spell out the word fully.

Of course, I know acronyms are here to stay.
