Achievements for EU4?

I use bot GamersGate and Steam and buys from whoever offers me the best deal.
The only REAL issue IMO is the threat of Steam becoming a monopoly thus driving the prices up. And for this reason alone, I always buy from GamersGate if the price of a product is the same.
Not living in the states I couldn't care less about Steam's TOS. If they want to sue me, they have to come here.

This indeed would be disturbing. Especially given the numbers mentioned by Johan.
especially my fear as well - although i have to say that i enjoy using steam very much ... managing all the dlc's and patches manually & individually as f.e. though gamersgate is a big hassle - but : Is it worth the risk of a monopoly?
How should steam achive a monopoly? There is the amazon store, google store, origin, soon the windows 8 store, gog, etc.
The same way Windows is a monopoly despite there being other OS on the market, some even being free.
If other OS's were better* than Windows don't you think people would buy them instead? If another service was offered in place of Steam which is better, don't you think people would use it? Just because someone makes a good product or innovation doesn't mean they don't have a right to use it.
*Of course personal preference plays in and of course Windows is not the best in all aspects but in terms of user friendliness and general compatibility it's by far the best choice.

Actually... no. People need to be aware of other platforms, need to learn how to use them and a lot of software they already own might not work with it. As Windows is often pre installed on most computers you don't build yourself, many customers won't even be aware there is an alternative. The market isn't as free as you'd want it to be. Then again, the analogy might not be as sound as its easier to buy from different webstores than use different OS. But people need to be aware GG/Impulse/I don't know what exist and the games need to be compatible.
I'm not sure where you're going with this. I brought it up since I assumed it's relevant to the discussion. If Steam is the best choice by far then obviously people will prefer to use that over other alternatives. I've never used Gamersgate so I can't comment on that but other alternatives such as Origin are just complete rubbish compared to it. Until someone makes a better service, Steam will continue to dominate the market.
I think most people that have some kind of interest in purchasing a computer are aware of the fact that there are multiple choices, especially the younger generation (35>). Maybe this is not the case where you live but personally I believe I'd have a hard time finding someone who has no clue what a mac is. It's not like Apple is unknown to people and it's not like they don't have the funds to advertise their products. Linux is not that well known but it's userbase is still increasing as well, there are even countries that use Linux distros for their schools and so on. But now I'm starting to drift away from the point. Operating systems aren't similar to Steam and the digital distribution market and shouldn't be used to make a point in this discussion. I shouldn't have brought it up to begin with. The point is that as long as Steam is the absolute best service available then a majority of people will use it. Windows is losing users because their competitors are making better and better OS's, the same thing will happen with Steam if a better service appears.
I honestly can't see there being any noticeable "waste of time" when it comes to achievements. The situation will probably playing out a bit like...

And yes, when no one is looking, the Paradox team all speaks English, just like everyone else in the world when no Americans/English/Australians/ect are around. At least that's what Hollywood has taught me, an its a known fact they cannot lie.
No, they speak Swedish: but everybody knows that Swedish is just English spoken with a sing-song accent and all the Ws changed into Vs.
Achievements would be really fine, especially when updated here and there.
I am still doing the EU3 Achievements, even when no official medal is popping up. Like Basileus, an early reich, No trail of tears and i have done african power just a few days ago.
I know some people dont like achievements, but they are more like the extra spice to me.
