Achievements Can NOT Be Earned This Session

Hey,

I've tried to scour the forums for what's potentially wrong here, but have been unable to find any help that works. I was playing an Ironman Great Horde run earlier today and when I just loaded it up, it now is giving me the "Achievements CANNOT be earned this session" message. It has never given me that message before, and I don't want to ruin the ironman run. I've rebooted a couple times, and I've verified the validity of local files, but that hasn't helped. Help!

The message literally showed up an hour after I exited the run to run errands (didn't update computer or anything in between). Posting because obviously I'd love to continue my run.

an additional note here: when I load any historical starts to begin a new game, I do not get the same message.

Do you have any mods that may have updated or has a patch been installed?

If you added any DLC after starting the game this can happen.

Nope, no mods or new DLC. I had enough trouble initially with Cradle of Civilization that I uninstalled all mods before I was able to start the run I'm citing above.

At least previously, there's a risk of losing achievement compability if the computer isn't connected to Steam. If that's during a previous session and you didn't notice immediately, it would fit with what you described. In which case, I'm not sure that there's anything to be done but don't take my word for it.

In this patch they tried to stop save-scumming. This means that if you stop the process it will tell you you cant earn achievements anymore. I had this a couple of times. So maybe you crashed or stopped the process on purpose regarding your Great Horde run?

I haven't seen any evidence of this, and it would be a thoroughly disgusting gesture by Pdox so I doubt they'd do it or that it's the cause here.

Nope - I don't feel a need to do that ^^. If you need to do that, then don't play ironman.

@ Cuendillar - I wondered about that as well, but the load screen says something along the lines of "last time you were eligible to earn achievements, but now you CANNOT," which is why I'm not sure that would be the reason here. I hope it's not!

I would have thought stopping a process in task manager causes it to stop as soon as possible so it couldn't do anything extra like update a saved game file to no longer be ironman. And of course there would be no way of differentiating between a real crash so it would annoy people.

I doubt this is true since I've earned a few achievements in the past couple of days by halting the process through the task manager,

There is currently a bug that prevents you from earning achievements if you don't open the game in Steam but via shortcut or restart of it. It's a known bug and will hopefully resolved in 1.24.
Make sure you launch the game in Steam and it should work (as long as you didn't load the game while it said you can't earn achievements).
