I'm a long time lurker on the Paradox Forums, but haven't posted much.

I was wondering what ideas you all had for fun achievement runs in HOI4. I haven't seriously played the game in a while, but I have a decent amount of play time and I feel like I understand most of the game's systems well enough to try some medium difficulty achievements and play smaller nations. I have all DLC's except for La Resistance.

I like to combine as many achievements as possible in one run.
Montezuma's Revenge + Sunset Invasion was quite fun. Remember that for the latter you are not allowed to do any alliances outside Central/South America which makes the former a bit harder.

I made that run before Man the Guns so I don't know in how far that DLC changed the difficulty for that.

My Ships don't Lie is quite fun, too. At least the Grand Columbia part. The ship building part is straight forward. It requires some timing your war declarations so your target don't join the Allies.

And of course Bearer of Artillery.

The Spanish civil wars ones are quite nice (at least until you understand how to game the buildup to the war so much that the civil war become trivial), and I had a lot of fun playing the anarchists. Wait you don't have La Resistance, never mind.

Otherwise I enjoyed my Communist China run quite a lot. Finding the right balance in how much to fight the Japaneses and how much to sabotage the nationalist war effort to get the most out of the sino-japanese war required a bit effort.

The Big entente achievement as France is a nice easy achievement to get if you're looking for a relatively short game. So is the Revolution Triumphant as the soviets (just annex poland, wait for the Anschluss (so you have land access to Italy when they join the axis) then declare war on Germany.

I recently did "Duce Nuked'em" (you can read about it here if you want) and late game turned out to be a lot more fun than I thought.

I also liked doing "Our Other Place in the Sun" where I also had to capitulate the USA at the end.

Another fun run i remember was a Poland run where I got "Assuming Direct Control" by taking over the leadership of Axis from Germany.

Death and dishonor and cake was a fun and challenging achievement but you will get super tired of all the scandals. I also likes basically all of the waking the tiger achievements (though of course it's been a while so difficulty may have changed). One achievement that I absolutely do not reccomend however is 'our words are backed with nuclear weapons'. You can't become independent or else lose the national spirit, and without independence you're stuck at 3 research slots. I've tried for it probably half a dozen times over various patches and something always goes wrong and ruins the run.
