The title says it. I think it happened because the protestants won the league war (castile and ottomans were helping them), dethroning Austria, and i happened to be the most eligible protestant member. So this is an issue with main objective and main bonus objective of this game, form Germany and dismantle the HRE, both of which i can't do as the Emperor. I'm not very familiar with playing as the Emperor as i've never paid it much attention in my previous central Europe games. So i've two main questions.

1) Is there any reasonable way to lose the Emperorship other than being out voted? If there isn't, what's the best way to get the electors to vote against me?

2) While I'm Emperor, what's the best way to use that to advance my goal of Germany and the dismantlement of the HRE?

So far this is what i have in mind for the second question. The added military benefits are obvious. I can use IA to revoke the Free City status of any Princes in my conquest path of northern Germany, so that i don't accrue those extra consequences. And i could use IA to convert friendly Princes to Protestantism so that i won't have to worry about that territory being the wrong religion by the time i conquer it.

In order to gain IA it seems the four main things i can do are; convert Princes to Protestantism (was planning on anyways), retake lost imperial land (main suspects are France and Tuscany), have new members join, and get re-elected. For new members i'm pretty sure i can release territory as new countries and have them automatically be apart of the HRE. In that case, that's what i plan on doing with any imperial territory i reclaim.

Currently I'm helping Sweden in an all but won war against Denmark and i'm in a war against France to reclaim some imperial territory(which is going well). I'm leading in tech at 16. I have Economics, Admin, Quality, and Quantity idea groups finished with Def, Off, Trade, and Influence in mind. I did fill the two vacant electors seats with Brabrant and Wuttenberg, then married and allied them both. I'm also allied/married with Sweden and Saxony, have a PU with opm Bayreuth, and have Glogow as a vassal (which i'll feed Polish territory to). Rivals are Poland, Lithuania, and Tuscany. With Muscovy being able to expand eastward and form Russia a concern now with them allied to Sweden and reclaiming land from Lithuania. (Muscovy and I helped with Swedish independence in the last war against a bankrupt Denmark). Like i want Poland and Lithuania to act as a counter balance to Muscovy expansion, but i also really want to feed polish land to my vassal.

Any advice on the HRE situation or just in general would be appreciated.

if there is no emperor then there is no one to demand unlawful terrority
if you are the emperor then Empire funding you to conquer itself from inside
you can use emperorship for money an manpower if you have no intention of going for HRE game.
to be not elected as emperor... keep insulting electors until they literally hate you to guts.

There isn't really a downside to being emperor imo but if you want to dismantle it, remove electors as soon as you can gather enough AI, that way it'll be easier to dismantle once you're out
