So I am doing the achievement listed in the title of this thread which requires me to have four colonial nations in South America as Mali. The problem is when I try making a new colonial nation my currently existing ones claim the newly made colonies.

I even went fifteen provinces north of the nearest colony only to find that Brazil decided it wanted to move into northern Columbia. Is there a way to stop colonial nations from instantly taking over newly made colonies?

There is a colonial regions mapmode. Finished colonies are automaticaly added to existing colonial nation in the region unless you don't own it. Brazil is one of the biggest regions. You should try colonizing in Panama (Columbia) or at the bottom of America (La Plata). It should work properly. Last one should be peru - easiest done by conquest. You can have more than 1 colonial nation in region only if you full annex another colonizer - it gives you control over their subjects.

There are four colonial regions in South America: Peru, La Plata, Brazil, and Columbia. On owning five provinces in a colonial region, a colonial nation forms that becomes a subject nation of yours. One will form if you either colonize the provinces or conquer them from an existing nation.

For this achievement you need to be careful about Columbia. Some of its provinces are in North America and under some circumstances it can be considered a North American colonial nation.

Yup I got the achievement 10 minutes after reading L1ve's post shortly after he explained to me that I was just being a freaking idiot. Granted he was a lot nicer about it than I am saying!

Basically just murdered all the natives in Peru shortly after hopping back into the save and after that I stole Britain's colony in Columbia.

Now make a colonial nation in NA and grab the 5 CN achievement if you don’t already have it.
