About wool and fertilizers?

I have a question about two resources.

Is there any need for wool in the game? It is cheap and therefore quite pointless to sell as a raw material, but at same time no textile factory needs this

What is the real effect if i import fertilizer for my farmers? Does the productivity of farms really increase and how much i should import it?

I believe that a fabric factory does require wool along with cotton. (At least in vanilla, IIRC).

The productivity of your farms will not increase. Fertilizer is a luxury good for your farmer POPs, and they will simply purchase it off of the world market.
They do allow you to make some military goods, though.

You can't import things for your POPs, you can lower taxes and tariffs and they can buy it themselves

I built a fabric factory but it demands only for cotton instead wool (it was said clearly that it would use "cotton OR wool"). I have a big wool supply and factory is not going to use it. Is it possible to switch from cotton to wool for fabric factory?

Nope, not that I know of. Cotton is usually plentiful on the market so just set it to buy 10.

I actually editted my game files to change the requirements for fabric factories to take roughly equal wool and cotton, as I felt the same as you.

it's very easy

open the file db/economy/factory_input.txt with Notepad or another basic text editor

scroll down to the entry for fabric_factory and between the brackets where it lists what inputs are needed, add the line

wool = 1.0

or whatever amount you want to add

Save the change. Start up the game, and you should see the fabric factories requiring x amount of wool as well as cotton.

Wool is one of the highest money-making resources in the game. A province that produces wool doesn't get a bonus to life-rating (increased growth rate) like cattle provinces, but you can produce massive amounts of wool that makes a lot of money. Wool > Coal > Iron.

In the game, wool is an essential need for all pops so it does get used up. Adding it as a requirement for fabric will probably make wool provinces even richer.

Which is why I always imagine Victoria irregulars as some sort of armed sheep. They're about as effective.

Maybe I have gone completely insane or everyones using a mod, but I am pretty darn sure that fabric factories use both wool and cotton in Ricky.

I believe it was version 1.4 that added wool along with cotton as your basic factory inputs for fabric. I've just looked at 1.4, Revolutions, Southern Revolutions and VIP 0.1 and they all require both.

However, VIP 0.2 has changed the fabric factory inputs to the following:

cotton = 4.0 #1.5 		
cattle = 1.0 	#livestock	
dye = 2.0 #1.25 #added
fertilizer = 0.1 #added

I don't remember why wool was removed and cattle was added. I guess fabric factory workers need beef.

Leather? But what do they use fertilizer for?
