I don't know if someone has talked about this in another thread (if so, give me a notice), but I wonder if anybody knows whether there will be more nations with their "own" sprites. Like Austria, Russia, OE, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Prussia, Venice in EUII? (Poland, Russia and USA with special units for given era's in the game). I've always thought that there are too few nations in EUII that have their own colours.

Any opinions on this?

The funny thing is that in the 19th century, the uniformization of the army is complete. An independent observer would be unable to spot different nations in a sea of soldiers that basically look the same.

So, I wouldn't think that more sprites would be a very accurate idea.

But what about the French blue? Or the Union blue vs. Confederate Grey? Or the British redcoats?

If my troops aren't dressed in gaudy colors, I'll be sorely dissapointed. ;)

Very untrue Rorke's Drift was 1879...the brits were still in their colonial African Red...and would change sometimes depending where they served.

Anyways, the nations had different uniforms so that they could tell their own apart from their enemy. If it was not so big difference in colours... I think that the player in some way also should get to tell his/her own troops from the enemy's.

Even in World War 1-

The French Army thought that it would be "un-French" to go into battle without their blue jackets, and red pants. The Austrians still wore Skyblue and some of their own shades of Grey.

It was only late in the war that the armies began to adopt more uniform colors for their uniforms. Considering that up until the final event of the game the armies of Europe wore distinct colors, I suspect that they shall be implemented in the game.

They found fit to do so in HOI where it was even more complete.

The uniforms weren't completely uniform...mostly, but you could pick them out. A German in a pickelhauben and grey is distinguishable from a British soldier in brown with that...don't know what kind of helmet it is, but you know what I mean. Similar to American doughboys and such.

The distinctions are clearer early on, though, to be sure, but...criminey, they're more badass when they're distinguishable. I mean, it just won't be British imperialism without redcoats.

The Swedish aren't at least (such yellow above, blue below hasn't been used since the 17th century). The Swedes were dressed in dark blue and white until the later 19th century, when they became all light blue. This one and this were used from late Napoleonics to (with modifications) mid-late 1800. The second one was used from the late 1880s and on.

The uniforms differed very much during this era, it was not until the experiences gained during the Great War that they became plain and boring (the British realized that this was better with modern warfare two decades earlier).
