If you do consider to give us the option to select a completely random commander, in the scenario lauch menu, please also give us the option to save some of those random commanders, in the custom commanders list, after the game has ended. I am saying that because sometimes an AI player puts on such a great fight, that you wish to fight them again and again. And in this manner, sometimes an AI commander is such a great ally to you, that you want to join forces with them once more.
All in all, I am looking forward to the option to completely randomize your AI playmates, and I believe that this is going to be a great quality-of-life improvement to the game!
