My personal opinion as far as the computer game goes...if Yang can figure out a way to make it work, then its good enough for me. ;)

Besides, the way the game is set up, even if you do 'convert' a mech to DHS, the base heat sinking doesn't change, so its not following the rules there either...you can put all DHS on a mech and still only get the base engine heat sinking, instead of that being doubled like it should.

If I am playing table top, then by all means TT rules will apply. However, for the computer game...well it has its own rule set.

Ummm, have you looked into 1.9 yet?

The chassis heatsink line in the chassisdef.json actually works now, so all the 'Mechs that have DHS now show a value of 30 there. So you get 10 SHS base (30 heat), another 30 points from the chassisdef (for 60 heat, or 10 DHS), and then can add whatever else you want in terms of DHS to the paperdoll in Mechlab.

The Marauder 2R shows this. It's got six DHS in Mechlab, plus the chassis stuff, for a total in-game heat dissipation of 96 points. (Now, the 2R doesn't mount the correct armor value, but that's a separate thread...)

That's not what the poster above you was talking about. He meant that adding a single DHS component on a 'Mech not specifically coded to have double engine heat sinks will not convert the single engine heat sinks into doubles. In CBT (or say, Mechwarrior 2: Mercs) such a conversion is not only possible, but necessary for mounting DHS component in the first place.

More importantly, the ERPPCs and lasers are wrong way around in the arms in the stock config, which makes the chassis literally unplayable (it also has only 1 ballistic hardpoint which makes it more of a side-grade than upgrade to the default one, much disappointment).

They've activated engine heatsinks, sure, but haven't touched the ability to mix and match heatsinks so the game is still its own thing compared to TT.

Exactly what I meant. If you play a game in TT where you keep track of everything (like a mercenary campaign), then to swap a mech from SHS to DHS, you'd have to have at least 10 DHS available just to change the engine heat sinking over, at least that is the way I recall it (been a while since I played a TT campaign).

The computer game doesn't have that, but it also does not track engine heat sinks at all. Honestly, the Urbie (for example) should have some of its engine heat sinks externally mounted, as the engine is not big enough to mount all 10 per the TT rules as I recall it.

... so the game is still its own thing compared to TT.
This is as planned and in my book a major selling point of BATTLETECH.

With BATTLETECH, just as he shared at GENCON 2017, Jordan has realized more and better what had been his intent for BattleTech TableTop all along, but just was not possible in mid-1980 Kitchen and Dining Room tables.

I’ll take Jordan’s intent as BATTLETECH gospel any day.

All that being said, I’ve come to embrace and buy the ever-lov’in heck out of anything-BattleTech that Catalyst Kickstarts. As a matter of fact, something like by a factor of THREE times as many of my hard earned dollars have gone to Catalyst lately than to Harebrained Schemes. But of course that may have more to do with the number of Catalyst Kickstarters and the fact that HBS was in a position to be able to release all three of its BATTLETECH DLCs without a Kickstarter.

Sometimes I nearly weep when I think of all the BATTLETECH MERCH that might have been! :’(
