I have been just looking around the forum, and there are lots of "requests" about the provinces and their names...

Thread 1:
http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=266157

Thread 2:
http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=266084

Thread 3:

Thread 4:

So, I think we must unify them into this single one:
Which provinces do you think should be modified or created?

In my opinion these Spanish regions should be changed:
Estremadura > Extremadura (the name comes from the eXtreme temperatures of that Spanish region)
Andalusia > Seville (or Sevilla). Because Granada is part too of the actual Andalusia.
Cantabria > should disapear and be replaced by Asturias (the original Spanish region from which the "Reconquista" started) and Vizcaya (or Biscay), as part of the Basque provinces...

:D Go on please...

...in Portugal...

"Tago"...should be Lisboa e Vale do Tejo...in eng--->"Lisbon and Tagus's Valey" :wacko:

...btw...the province of Lisboa nowadays is called "ExtrEmadura". :D ...but merged with "Ribatejo"...it's "Lisboa e Vale do Tejo".

...and,.........no,..........."EstrAmadura"...in spain should remain the same. ;)

....futher...on the north of Portugal...on the right side of the "Porto" province...the province has to be named "Trás-os-Montes". :D

....i agree with the Asturias issue...it should be merged with cantabria! ;)

...finally...Alentejo and Algarve looks great to me!....

...but "Beiras"...there are 2...------>Beira Baixa and Beira Alta

My thought on province names:

Make them readable, even I'm having trouble reading the current province names and I still officially have 20/20 eyesight.

That would be good too! It could be also an "animated" name so that when you desplace the mouse over the province, its name gets bigger or more visible, or something...

province tooltips would be better IMO. They could give a bit more information then just the name.

Amen! Amen! I have better than 20/20 vision (and no, I'm not bragging), and even I am having some troubles reading that. Well, not so much troubles as, inconvenience. If I focus on the name, I can read it just fine, but I have to focus on it. With your change, I can just glance and read "Murcia", but with the other one, I have to say, "Okay... that word is... Murcia!", see the difference?

I really like your idea! Johan, Please take this into consideration!

It is impractical for small provinces. Better to leave it at that but also keep the "info about x" popup from EUII, making that slightly bigger.

Ok, but what do you think about the names of the provinces?
Do you think they will be called the same in EU3 that in EU2?
Look at the screenshots and see for yourself lazy boy :)
They seem to be going with native names this time arounf though. Zeeland, Vlaanderen etc.
An aproach that could open some very smelly cans of worms.

Well, maybe not that extreme, but i agree that the current text is too hard to read. The one used for the eu2 map was perfect actually. Or it might be that im extremely conservative :).

The text on the EU2 map fit that map well. Just like the water names in EU1 fit that games atmosphere. With the new map, and the new atmosphere that obviously comes with a less cartoonish playing arena, names will have to be done a little different. I don't mind the faded names as in Peace Deals (the one place where knowing the names of each province is the most important in EUII) we'll be able to select the provinces we want to include in the deal on a minimap, making knowing the name less important than knowing which province has your core geographically :)

When you hover over a province with the mouse, doesnt the name appear? Personally Brownbeards "grandma" size letters is an eyesore to me.

As for province names, quite a few in India were geographically wrong (in relation to other places), the south of India was particularly badly done, should have had more (lower value) provinces rather than Mysore in the middle (Kannada is a bit more to hte west than central) and coastal provinces surrounding it, but that is a different gripe ;).

In my opinion Extremadura is correct, Sevilla is correct but cantabria don`t should disapear because is the port of Castilla and in the history spanish is very important. Should be Asturias "and" Cantabria. but only is one opinion.

To round some of the things I've noticed up:

*portugal needs to be fixed but the 6-prov setup is good.
*the balkans, romania, japan and germany need many more provinces.
*Italy looks pretty good but a few more provinces here too wouldn't hurt
*the shape of Jutland suffers somewhat
*there are no areas I remember which have too many provinces.
*There should be a province and a minor state in the Isle of Man :D

That would be sick

Another point: Although I know that it's just in the trial and error phase, the elevation of Scotland's coastal territories should be lower.

Well, I'm not sure about Man or Wight, but there should definitely be a province to represent the Channel Islands. I'm actually quite surprised P'dox missed this one out :)

Hrm... If the map is 3d, I would think that it would be easy to modify the province names on your own (rather than the bitmap map). However, I could be horribly wrong about that.

Well Paradox claim that it's easier to mod a 3D map than a 2D one...
