@Deuterium Oxide The biggest issue I have with the new Stellaris Launcher is that my 150+ mods are no longer alphabetized. If that option can be opted back into the launcher that would be great.

This. Plus why have we seemingly lost the ability to sort our mods by tag, which was a very useful tool. Feels like this new launcher is a step backwards.
It's a pity too, because I like the presentation for the most part.

A suggestion as well, could we get the ability to create mod profiles? For example when I'm playing on my own, I use a lot of cosmetic mods, (united scifi-races etc.) But when I'm playing with my mates, they usually veto those. So if it was possible to group our mods, rather than manually turning them on, or off, that'd be swell.

Yep reinstalled Steam. Opened it as an admin and still the very same result unfortunately.
Best to move this to the Stellaris Tech Support forum I think.

Stellaris does work though. I can start it via the .exe in the folder. Just can't start it from Steam because that opens the launcher that is just dead to me. Just now I am playing vanilla Stellaris. I would love to access my mods though.
Still think I should take this over to the Tech Support thread? You don't have a launcher tech support by any chance do you?

This thread is the closest we have for that purpose. I can work in either place, I just thought we were cluttering up this one. As I guess I am now ...

I just wanted to put some questions down in the thread for the new launcher:
  • Are there plans to expand functionality along the lines of the SCModManager (compatibility warnings, mod profiles, better sorting options, etc.);
  • Is there a roadmap in general for what you expect to do with the launcher beyond the initial scramble to make it work?
  • Any chance of an "advanced" mode without the pictures for each mod? (Sure, it looks pretty, but I'd rather have it make better use of the space)
  • If not the above, possibly allow the window to be resized rather than static? (I'm sure there's a good reason for it being hardcoded to a specific size from a design standpoint, but it's still annoying when 7 mods take up a full screen, and there is no scroll bar or easy way to move mods to a specific order)
I'm hoping that someone makes something similar to BOSS or LOOT to help with the mod load order woes that have been generated by the launcher completely tossing out the previous method of load order (and the fact that most people don't know or think about how the load order affects their modlist). It's a very strange design decision, as modders had largely sorted this out themselves prior to the updated launcher.

Regarding to my not working launcher problem which did exactly:
index.php

and then nothing else at all. It appears that the launcher does not work when you have special characters in the Windows user folder name. Dickhead friend of mine typed in "Penis#" as my username when he set up the PC for/with me. So now I am stuck with that but on a different user on the very same PC the launcher worked no problem.
I know very little about programming but I think the fix should be really easy and it would be lovely if you could hotfix that if that really is the issue for me so I don't have to migrate all my settings and stuff to the other user.

So I'm report #175: TLDR: Steam: Stellaris launched fine then 90mins later will not launch with the - Paradox Launcher cannot be opened because of a problem.

The update on the 4/11/19 has not solved my problem with the launcher, Lithoids will not install and I now note that I don't appear to be able to use any of my DLC when launching from the app (all are 'missing'). Never had a problem with Stellaris, installing or accessing my DLC before.

Very disappointing.

We'll have a look at it, but weekend is upon us and realistically expect no answer until Monday at the earliest. I'll have to scrounge up someone that can read Russian as well, but that should be doable ;)
Hello! Is it possible to visit my topic?

Note of advice - deploy extended logging laucher version (via steam beta) and log all actions of it - begining from checking user rights and it's attempt of installation by the launcher itself, mods and so on.
Current level of logging is nothing.

HAHA, found a solution Guys

i also had the Problem that the Launcher couldn't do anything because it was on a diffrent Drive
so i found out you can tell Windows where it should install new Programms in the RegEdit (what you have to change is highlighted)
and now Steam installs the Stellaris-Launcher directly into the Gamefolder - and that works fine

now i can finally tell the Launcher to start the game in Windowed-Mode and i can actually play :eek: :eek:

maybe this helps the Tech-Teams too

sincerely
Colibru

Didn't help me, but if someone will manage to get it running - it'll be great.

New info: copied launcher folder to the game one and drag'n'drop Stellaris EXE it.
It started!
But was unable to start the game.

~~~ finally i [Mod Edit: Language] solved the paradox launcher riddle ~~~
Alrite, this has been quite a riddle and i am ashamed to say that PDX has contributed NOTHING so far to properly support players affected by this - despite this problem being caused by filepaths ONLY. But with the few hints that players gave during the last few postings in this thread, i was able to figure out this very simple solution, no regedit hassle needed at all, just some copy paste. Note that this applies to a PC / Win10 64bit / Steam version of the game.
So, if your new paradox launcher will not update and points you to support, do the following:
  1. dig out where on your C:\ drive the launcher was originally installed
  2. in my case this was on C:\user\username\appdata\local\programs\paradox interactive\
  3. copy everything below that folder into a new folder in your steamapps directory that you name "launcher"
  4. in my case this is now D:\games\steam\steamapps\common\stellaris\launcher\
  5. this folder should now contain 4 folders and a bootstrapper-v2.exe file, and some *.txt file
  6. back to your C:\ drive check into the folder C:\user\username\appdata\local\paradox interactive\
  7. note that this is NOT the same folder we talked of earlier
  8. it contains a file called "launcherpath" which has no extension
  9. open this file with a right mouseclick and select "open with notepad"
  10. the file contains the path where the launcher was originally installed
  11. delete the path saved inside the "launcherpath" file, fill in / overwite it with the newly created launcher location path you created in step 3+4
  12. save the file "launcherpath", leave it where it is
  13. delete the folder C:\user\username\appdata\local\programs\paradox interactive\
Start the game, the new launcher will fire up and update automatically. I guess i rather should have the community support job here...
Interesting, I shall give this a shot. Here's hoping this fixes the broken ghost directory.
EDIT: Sadly I do not have a "launcherpath" file. However, my workaround is to use the launcher-installer-windows.msi and just reinstall the launcher when necessary.
What is the current launcher version?
Forgive my asking what may sound like a very silly question, but why are threads and support requests regarding the launcher being directed here if there is no dedicated support staff for the launcher?
Manglement really needs to work out that if you're going to have a dedicated team for something, you need both a development and a support team (and those generally shouldn't be the same people). The last reply from anyone other than users was "it's the weekend," and that was a week ago on November 1st.
Forgive my asking what may sound like a very silly question, but why are threads and support requests regarding the launcher being directed here if there is no dedicated support staff for the launcher?
According to the 2.4 patch notes, there IS a dedicated Launcher Support staff, and this is pretty much the entire subforum for all issues with the Launcher. I don't think they anticipated so many people were going to have issues with it (I can't really think of the last time the old Stellaris launcher had more than one bug associated with it at any given time).
The last reply from anyone other than users was "it's the weekend," and that was a week ago on November 1st.
And it's the weekend again. I'm hoping "radio silence" is their usual "we are brainstorming solutions and don't want to say what we're working on since a lot of stuff is being scrapped in this phase and people don't like hearing the solution we were testing was scrapped". Albeit some confirmation about if they are working on it and what priority it is would be nice.
~~~ finally i [Mod Edit: Language] solved the paradox launcher riddle ~~~

Alrite, this has been quite a riddle and i am ashamed to say that PDX has contributed NOTHING so far to properly support players affected by this - despite this problem being caused by filepaths ONLY. But with the few hints that players gave during the last few postings in this thread, i was able to figure out this very simple solution, no regedit hassle needed at all, just some copy paste. Note that this applies to a PC / Win10 64bit / Steam version of the game.

So, if your new paradox launcher will not update and points you to support, do the following:
  1. dig out where on your C:\ drive the launcher was originally installed
  2. in my case this was on C:\user\username\appdata\local\programs\paradox interactive\
  3. copy everything below that folder into a new folder in your steamapps directory that you name "launcher"
  4. in my case this is now D:\games\steam\steamapps\common\stellaris\launcher\
  5. this folder should now contain 4 folders and a bootstrapper-v2.exe file, and some *.txt file
  6. back to your C:\ drive check into the folder C:\user\username\appdata\local\paradox interactive\
  7. note that this is NOT the same folder we talked of earlier
  8. it contains a file called "launcherpath" which has no extension
  9. open this file with a right mouseclick and select "open with notepad"
  10. the file contains the path where the launcher was originally installed
  11. delete the path saved inside the "launcherpath" file, fill in / overwite it with the newly created launcher location path you created in step 3+4
  12. save the file "launcherpath", leave it where it is
  13. delete the folder C:\user\username\appdata\local\programs\paradox interactive\
Start the game, the new launcher will fire up and update automatically. I guess i rather should have the community support job here...

Sadly, but didn't help.
Installed launcher directly to stellaris\launcher, so launcherpath file had already correct path to it

Running Win7 SP1 x64

The fun part, that when i pressa "play" from Steam log says that cannot find file, but it's just there.
Another "fun" part, that the launcher requires launcher-settings.json which is located in Stellaris folder and it had to be copied to stellaris\launcher folder by hand.

On your screenshot i cannot see the file named "launcherpath", nor which path it contains. Locate it and post its contains, and do post in which directory your bootstrapper-v2.exe is. You checked the file launcher-bootstrapper.log thats not the one you have to edit.
D:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Stellaris\launcher\

Did you do this as well:

delete the folder C:\user\username\appdata\local\programs\paradox interactive\

Did you restart steam / PC meanwhile?
Aye. Even tried to obtain GOG version. Same trouble with launcher.
Might be special problem with Win7 SP1

Devs, what KB must be installed on Windows?
