About the motto

Does anyone else think that the motto ,"Rule By Iron, Conquer Through Blood," should be reversed? I mean, ruling by iron can make sense, but it makes more sense to conquer with iron(guns, etc.). And to rule by blood could point to a monarchy, which could represent the part of the game devoted to changing society.

AFAIK all Bismarck said was "by iron and blood" (durch Eisen und Blut, within a larger quote), not this specific quote.

There was a contest on the Victoria 2 facebook page, where they asked fans to provide a motto for the game. Some guy came up with this, and he won a free copy of Vicky 2 and another Paradox game (lucky bastard!)

Never liked the winning quote personally, quite militant given the 'its not a war game' line. Besides, given that the game is called Victoria, a quote from Queen Vic or something British seemed much more appropriate IMHO.

Yes, all this is true, and it might even be what the winner of the motto contest was aiming for.

But, in my opinion, it is more of a poetic quote, than a motto. Even if the two are commonly interchangeable, in this case, I believe they aren't. It is too twisted to be a fair motto. Alas, I will live with it as long as the game fulfills my expectations.

EDIT: About it being a war game. I hope not, because I have played enough war games from Paradox. Not saying that I don't want combat, I just hope peace feels like game play, not loading time. Which, based on the Developer Diaries, seems like it won't be an issue.

I always thought, and still do. That 'Hand of History' would be the best subtitle
Victoria II: Hand of History
or even, An Empire Under the Sun II: Bismarck
but i dont know, i kind of like how cumbersome the current one is, how its not something anyone would every say.

Yes it represents the game as a war-game which will lead false expectations which will be brutally crushed causing bad reaction and first-day reviews.
BUT that said, distributors are probably more likely to buy a war game so it might actually come out here which would be brilliant.

and then, who will notice it. they can make it in really small letters
and because its long and really uncomfortable to say no-one will ever repeat it so it'll be forgotten double-quick so it doesnt really matter
cos no-one will remember it


THERE were alot of arguments and discussion about this before they held the farce of a competition hidden away on another internet site, so talking about ti after they've not only reach a decision but included it on trailers and paper work is all academics. Its too late to do anything about it.

and putting things on facebook is just a clever way to piss off everyone on the forums by saying, you dedicated fans on our website we dont care about you, but people over on this social networking site who have nothing to do with anything, we value your opinions more than gold and salt, and certainly more than those people who are active members of our gaming 'community'. and facebooks suck and has an impossible interface and requiring people to use it for anything is practically criminal
