Hi guys,

I need to make a confession. I am a raging CKII fanboy, thinking it is THE game closest to perfection on the market :D

Now I have bought EUIV ages ago and played it. I like Muslim nations and merchant republics particularly as these afford a choice to the player - low piety or high piety? Military, diplomatic or administrative doge? With Western monarchies, they just get heirs that have random traits which means all the fun I have in CKII with eugenics, breeding and education is just cut out of the game :(

Anyways, I have not touched EUIV for a while but consider trying out something like Venice (conquering Egypt) or Novgorod (forming a Republican Russia), or perhaps Oman or Aceh (conquering India and/or China for Islam). Now, I have pretty much missed everything about patch 1.5, and as I know patches always make radical and controversial changes (controversial not meaning that it is bad but just that opinions are split) I wanted to ask if it any good. I hope that merchants and Muslims have not been nerfed into the ground and that coalitions not always and unfailingly result in world wars any more.

Also, I wanted to try out a mod. MEIOU and Taxes makes my computer grind to a halt, so I am asking if you can recommend anything else that improves balance and immersion - a bit like PB+VIET for CKII? Is Veritas et Fortitudo any good regarding that?

Thanks for any advice whatsoever :)

I recommend you dont get any overhaul mods, for me they just ruin the game and add more clutter but thats just me. I use little mods. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=171469371 is highly recommended if you plan to go as republic. This other mod doesn't hugely affect gameplay but it makes the game look much nicer: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?756376-mod-Map-Improvement-Mod

If you have a bigger screen, use http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=170730282
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=230546817 just gets rid of having to pay monarch points for buildings

Patch 1.5 fixed heaps of issues but didnt really nerf anything that didnt need to be nerfed.

In 1.5 it would propably be better for you to play in Asia... New DLC is coming that will be oriented on trade, so you will want to play Venice or Novgorod then :)

Just go with vanilla. I wouldn't recommend any mods.

As for 1.5, it's perfectly fine. Most, if not all, of the complaints were from people who got too used to the low AE in the last patch.

I like the 1.5 patch. The biggest controversy about is the return of AE and Coalition compared to 1.4 standards. Personally I like it right now, others don't but it's pretty much up to opinion.
Second biggest controversy is the "too many Great Power allies" modifier. Basically if you have more than one GP ally you'll get a -100 relations malus. Annoying, especially so as GP status can fluctuate wildly in the beginning. If you're not too concerned about Ironman(and since you're asking about mods I assume you're not) I recommend that you download the Beta patch as that reduces the modifier to -50, makes sure the AI don't break existing alliances over it and makes it moddable.

Can't give any advice on the specific nations you mention as I haven't played them and the same goes for any big overhaul mods as I haven't tried any of those either.

1.5 is really great. I finally can enjoy the game.
Just now I played Byzantium, got Poland and Lithuania in alies. Royal Marriages, great relations. At some point I got the message that Poland broke the alliance, and when I tried to check out why, I got modifer -100. Apparently, someone became a Great Power. 3 minutes later I was able to ally them again. And lately, guess what? They broke it again! I have never had so much fun.
Also, it is nice to see that these rebellion shields are still red/black now, without distinction signs. My favorite 1.4 thing, I am glad that they decided to keep it in 1.5.

Much much better than ever before, and all the whining comes from ugly people who can not play and want just 'I win' button.
