I wish they would test their games more outside of multiplayer. The vast majority of players do not play in multiplayer to begin with.
Oh no, you're telling me they're doing this in Stellaris as well? Damn, no wonder things like forced white peace are still a thing. Probably for anti griefing in mp..

non-forced white peace harmed single player too I know because I forced AI to be ruined in short window they removed it...
I simply made him reach 100 war exhaustion and waited... with all negative modifiers it had AI kept asking for white peace but I rejected because I had %30 exhaustion
and since I wasnt holding all of my claims he was also not desiring to surrender (after all maybe I wasnt because I was unable to because his defenses were stronger? who knows certanly not AI and you cant expect AI to do everything)
in the end I reached 100 exhaustion AFTER AI became so crippled that broken into many diffrent nations -_-

The bigger problem with White Peace to me seems - as with everything else - that the AI doesn't do anything unless it's absolutely forced to. In this case, waiting for 100 WE.
I'm not saying it's awesome at this in EU, but at least it occasionally calls for a White Peace if it doesn't make any gains. So, in my current game, an AI called me into a war, and I thought, sure, have fun, let's see what you are doing - but again they aren't doing anything - and I can't get there to put anyone out of their misery either. Which is obnoxious, as out of sheer boredom I thought I'd start a Federation, but, oops, not possible while being at war ...

A few decades later ...

WE at 50%, still nothing happened, still waiting. Ach, the fun we are having ^^

When you've got people rolling back, that's how you know the patch was really not tested and deployed in a proper state. Fix the AI, PDX!
There are a massive (considering how long ago it was) number of pre-2.0 compatible mod versions for people who wanted to keep playing with different FTLs. It's a big change to the game, but I doubt most people are rolling back.

i rolled back until glavius managed to finally fix the AI for being the broken mess that it is... honestly the rest of the game is fine its just that the AI is simply unplayably bad

The rollback options are more for people who prefer older versions of the game (more FTL, tiles, etc.) than anything tbh.

That's not to say the state of the AI isn't poor or anything. It's just that rollbacks are more for folks who prefer older mechanics or want to finish a pre-2.2 campaign than because... PDX expected people to turn away in disgust? That seems a silly assumption.

I think this is the main issue I have with the new patch. Overall we can get used to the new stuff and it's fine.

However setting up Grand Admiral Ironman, Scaling off game in the current patch is just a joke. AI is so weak in mid-late game it just makes the whole game pointless as you can roll over them without any challenge.

In previous patches the AI had huge fleets and was scaling really well to be a serious challenge at any stage of the game.
Please address that as soon as possible Paradox. Even if for now it would mean to give simple bonuses and cheats just so that the AI can present a challenge.

Introducing this economy overhaul is good idea, but if the AI cannot keep up the outcome of it is negative which might not be the issue of the design of the change itself but not adjusting other aspects that it affects.

They indeed do not seem to be upgrading anything. Just spied my federation mates and they all have basic buildings while I'm on tier 3. There was a fanatic purifier that also couldn't figure it out and never got past a single system.

Also, it seems federation members stop doing anything at all with their fleets when they join, just watched the khan eat one of them while the the doomstack sat at his home sytstem. There were some pirates in their systems too that have lasted since around the start of the game (its 2383 now)

Are building upgrade worth it?

Well I was optimistic too after 2.0 hit but they nerfed the AI even further because people complained about the AI cheating.
It seems the focus is clearly the MP side of the game.

I honestly only want an AI that cheats like crazy at this point with free ressources and massively reduced upkeep for stuff. Make it a checkbox which says "UNFAIR CHEATING AI BONUSES" for all I care.
I think under recruit or ensign difficulty the AI has 0% bonuses on income and upkeep.

The first time I have ever used a mod was the glavius ai one a couple of days ago.
Since him using it, for the first time in ages, an empire attacked me when I lost my fleet to a fight with those mining bot things.
That empire invaded 3 times. When I went for a revenge war later, I missed the defensive pacts it had and had 4 inferior empires crush me.
While I was invading one system, I lost four at the other side of my empire.
For ages, I never bothered making fleets because I wasn't attacked. I can't say how much I enjoyed the small wars.

Download this, seriously

Hey all!

For everyone interested in an improved AI (30 updates to date): https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/glavius-ultimate-ai.1135764/

I keep the thread updated with all links included.

Regardless, PDX needs to put effort into fixing the AI, else the game is pointless in SP (and MP to a degree).

Glavius' mod makes the AI at least build a decent economy. With that mod + Pdx's hotfixes this coming week I predict the AI will become decent.

Glavius does the community a service but PDX should liberally crib from his fixes and incorporate those into the base game. We shouldn't need players to spend their time writing mods for the game in order to get a game with AI worth paying for!

I feel like the devs are trying too hard to make the AI function in an AI-like way (weighting build options etc), and need to just bite the bullet and make AI operate according to build lists. Weight the build list that is followed according to the ethics/civics/planet resources or whatever, but the chance to build a building that makes no sense at all needs to be zero, not merely lower than the chance to build the right buildings. Gotta make sure agricultural planets get food processors, and more importantly that non-agricultural planets do not, etc.

Build scripts will may be hard due to the diversity of possible relevant combinations. They could fix the AI if they put in the effort, it's clear that it was not a priority in 2.2. Only the voice of the players can affect dev priorities.
