I think the AI needs to receive large-ish alloy production bonuses on two highest difficulty levels, just like they receive raw mineral production bonuses. If the AI has to rely on bonuses, introducing a bottleneck resource can greatly damage its performance. Unless they already receive alloy production bonuses, in which case things must be Warlock-2-without-Renaissance-mod bad.

Agreed, unplayable. I can’t imagine how these things went by unoticed by the devs, and if noticed - how it didn’t postpone release.
I can respect the fact that development is hard and complex, by all means... but you can’t go selling a defunct product, man. If xou failed a deadline then so be it, it’s all part of the show. Make it work whenever you can, but make it work first.

The AI had the same problem with being capped on resources and not building anything in previous patches. It's just a bigger deal now that it leaves the AI with low stability planets full of unemployed people which don't produce any resources like the AI's undeveloped planets previously would. I'm not sure what the issue is actually. Previously I used a mod that just used a script to build buildings for the AI which mostly worked fine, so I don't know why the devs are unable to get the AI to build.

I honestly doubt that any of the devs play singleplayer at this point.
I tried 2.2 because one of the selling points was that the tile system was too difficult for the AI and this would fix it. It is 10 times worse now.
First they implemented a choke point system the AI can't use and now this.
And I must admit I actually found the new economic system somewhat engaging...

Sadly, it is quite obvious that devs do not play singleplayer anymore. Not sure what the “testing” part is then... people playing this weekend is the testing seems like.

We're definitely waiting on changes, I don't think anyone thinks the AI is good right now. That said, diplomatically the AI is apparently far more interesting than before. I've never seen so much trade, pact forming and breaking, wars, federations and treaties. It's funny that diplomacy got no attention in 2.2 but it's clearly had a lot of work done on it.

one of the selling points was that the tile system was too difficult for the AI and this would fix it

I seen this a LOT, and I started 2.2 on Ensign difficulty just to be cautious, who knows what such nightmarish AI could do to me on a higher difficulty?
50 year into the game everyone is "pathetic", 2.1 AI is that you?

But we all knew the tiles were not the culprit, because Glavius fixed them. Perhaps the culprit is something else, and we all know what.

I hate to be a debbie downer, or a conspiracy nut, but I think there is a reason why all the MP dev clashes pre-release were just between players.

I've noticed that after you get 100 years thru and have a fleet cap over 100 and a fleet to match, you're the biggest bully in the playground.

Commodore difficulty.

Please name a strategy game in which the AI plays well without idiotic amounts of bonuses on high difficulties? It is a nice dream but it just ain't happening. Maybe with mods in some games...
Even the choke point mechanics work in favor of the player. I just steamrolled AI territory after 2.0 because the AI was always looking for a weak spot in my borders and sent its fleets in a year long journey to the other side of my empire because I never built any bastions and used the AI built ones against it by taking one at a choke point at the start of the war. By the time it got to one of my many weak spots I had usually won the war even in the early game.
Company of Heroes 2 ai play better without ressources cheat just better micromanagement.
Only from hard level to expert. Below ai have some limit like size of the wave and the amount.

I've noticed that for empires that I've bombarded to dust then not taken the planet or an AI ally ends up with the system, the damage never ever gets repaired, leaving ruins 100 years later and a massive drain on the owner.

As an experiment I gave a species I uplifted 1000 EC, Minerals, Food, Alloys, and 100 gasses, Motes, and Crystals. The proceded to do nothing useful with it, and instead used it all on decisions. The species had two good planets in their system as well, and instead of colonizing they blew all their windfall on exactly nothing useful. So, part of it may be the AI is wasting all their recources on decisions rather than building fleets/colonies, on top of the pop system being broken

The AI is generally better at playing OK without bonuses in combat RTS rather than in 4X or Grand Strategies.
He did say strategy so it's good enough. If you want to go in details 4X or Grand Strategy I don't see one for the moment.

I should have worded my question better but I concede. :) Better micromanagement because the AI can do more actions per minute is definitely a thing in some RTS games.

So it seems that the modifiers are now to everything stations and planet jobs produce, yet it still isn't enough.
Because the AI isn't making jobs to get bonuses and doesn't have enough housing and amenities to keep its planets stable. Interestingly some AIs seem to do better at this than others though, seemingly at random; which makes me think this may be a bug with a flag being set for that empire and not getting removed or something like that.
