I only recently discovered there is a "lucky nation" tag. I would like to play without it, as I find it boring to see the same super powers in each game. Before I start a new game, I would like to know if a game without lucky nations is still fun. Here are my interrogations:

1- In absence of lucky nations, is it still possible to see powerful countries rising (not necessarily France, England/Britain), or is it more likely to have small nations everywhere?

2- In the EU3 wiki, I see this
EU3 will constantly turn lucky nations back on. In order to stop this, another (14th) digit must be added to gameplaysettings.txt like this:
Code:
gameplaysettings={
   setgameplayoptions={
0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 2 0 1 1 0 2    }
}
Does it mean the option lucky nations off does not work properly so the file gameplaysettings.txt needs to be changed manually?

3- Can I disable lucky nations in my current game? I imagine it is possible by changing all the 'lucky=yes' to 'lucky=no' in my save game. Do I also have to edit gameplaysettings.txt as in 2-?

Thanks a lot

Edit - I play EU3 Chronicles (the one with all extensions, I think...)

1- I think yes, also I saw some elaborate alliance & military cooperation once, can't say for sure that "lucky nations off" was the reason.
2- That's speaking about the default values for the "options" menu when you start a new game.
3- I think yes, but the .txt is not necessary, as I've said it's only the default values for the menu for a new game.

You can also set lucky nations to "random" if you're merely looking for different nations to become superpowers.

Having lucky nations off will not prevent large nations, but large nations will have a lot of trouble regaining their strength if they are torn apart.

Lucky nations on will give a ton of buffs to either historical strong nations like France. Or it will give these buffs to other countries, but don't let the term random deceive you. If you have lucky nations on, e.g. Byzantium and Burgundy will get the buff almost guaranteed. You will still see nations rising without lucky nations, but it might be different ones.

Even without the lucky nation buffs France etc. will likely be strong. But they don't get a whole lot of bonuses just because they're lucky and will have to work for it like everyone else. They won't get as strong and probably not as large either. And they'll be a lot more fragile if they get high war exhaustion.

I always play with Lucky Nations OFF. I hate AI that gives abnormal bonuses to itself. I find the same old mega super France to be quite tiresome. Ironically, usually I find Burgundy crushes France with Lucky OFF.
