So i'm doing an Hormuz run in which i wanted to convert to Zoroastrism, just because it's fun alright!
So i did what was needed, getting to the zoroastrian timurids province, making the zealot rebels spawn. They started to convert provinces one by one to a point i could accept their demands and make zoroastrism my state religion.
But in the religion tab there is a button to convert, when i tried it i could convert to sikh (if i recall right) but not to zoroastrism, even when i had close to half of my provinces converted already.
So 1) what's the purpose of this action, how is it different and why i couldn't use it to convert to zoroastrism in my game?
Also the following is unfortunate. My Mamluks ally decided to declare a war and call me in at the crucial moment of this converting phase, and managed somehow to cross the path of the 2 rebel stacks and destroyed them. Awful because my capital and still a lot of province weren't converted, even if i could already accept zealots demand. I finally accepted and now i'm stuck with an half converted country, a weak missionary strength, unable to finish the damn zealot's work.
So question 2) is how would you guys have handled this mamluks intervention? Making more zealots to spawn? I even wonder why bother to convert if zealots can do it in one month across your whole territory?
3) Last question is about this missionary strength, religious ideas set is a must for this kind of game where you're surrounded by heathens and even heretics?
Few tips to get it higher without it?

Thanks for sharing your strategy!

1) That action exists for regular conversions (that normal rulers would willingly convert to), aka the ones where you convert without having to fall to rebels.
It can be used by Western Christians (Catholics, Protestants, Reformed) to jump between one another, and for some religions in Indian and Persian regions to convert to this new kid in the neighborhood called Sihkism. Though I thought only Hindu could convert to Sihkism, but apparently not.
3) Religion or Humanism is a must if you spread on provinces that don't have your state religion. I'd go with Religious because if you are restoring Zoroastranism, then may as well RESTORE it ;)

You were right until recently, they changed it as part of the patch before last's general Sikhism buff.

I also agree that Religious ideas are the way to go. Get that Zoroastrianism rolling.

iirc it's new in this patch or last patch that muslim countries can convert to Sihk.
Which is realistic since approximately 20% of the Sikh population have Muslim ancestry and there used to be a reasonable amount of interchange between the two religious groups before the partition.
