I'm hoping for some err.... forced terraforming, I can use offensively with ice asteroids to make ocean worlds.

Basically, what would happen if the Centauri were fish, and everyone else were Narn.

I mean, as I wrote there appears to be an origin that makes them live in the water exclusively and makes them harvest water to terraform more ocean planets and stuff. And without the origin you can still use the portraits to create something like the Tree Octopus Empire, meaning it makes them exotic aliens that look like aquatic creatures but really live on land.
Though I suppose it sucks if somebody wants to play strictly aquatic species with a different origin.
I mean this is really easy to fix right. Just have the regular version of the species portraits work like all the others do and able to live on whatever planet you want.

Then have the unique aquatic trait be the one that decides whether your species lives exclusively on ocean worlds. The important part is that this trait is optional so you can still do your jungle octopus species.

And then have the origin that makes your planet the special ocean one require the aquatic trait

I like what they did with Plantoids, giving some racial traits but then making them things you could add optionally. They did a bit of that with Lithoids as well, but not to the same extent.

I wonder, if they require ocean worlds, could they also get special aquatic habitats and ring worlds? Could other species be forcibly grafted with gills to live on their planets?

This will make or break the species pack for me... if they don’t do something different for an aquatic ecumenopolis (et al) then it’s just another paid skin

I mean I'm honestly already happy for the portraits. But a water planet where the city lights of a undersea ecumenopolis shimmer from underneath the waves would be very cool.

To your last point, we currently also have towel-wearing geckos living in arctic wastelands and leafy plant people living in deserts. If a walking dolphin wants to roam a savannah, I say let them.
They invent the wheel, New York, and wars while the other dolphins muck about in the water having a good time.

Ooh, I dearly hope you can combine that civic with agriculture districts with Agrarian Idyll and/or Catalytic Processing. Imagine having both, agriculture would be a HUGE part of your economy, which would be pretty neat.

From the screenshot, it looks like Anglers is incompatible with Agrarian Idyll (honestly not that big a deal, Agrarian Idyll is annoying to use anyway) but you can combine it with Catalytic Processing.

Looks like it will be quite interesting to build around. You only get one Angler per district, so for really heavy food production, making all the districts will be annoying early on and planet size will eventually be an issue later (even with the discount and the unlimited food districts on Ocean worlds); per pop though, this is a very good Worker job (assuming the usual food bonuses still apply). Pearl Diver is interesting: overall output is not that impressive, but it's (presumably) a worker job that makes CGs with no mineral input. (If it consumes 3 minerals then it's just bad, use Artisans instead.) It probably makes sense to use these instead of Artisans for a period in the early game; combined with Catalytic Processing, that means you have no mineral upkeep, so all the minerals you get can go on buildings/districts. Later on though, Pearl Divers will probably become inefficient compared to Artisans (I doubt that Pearl Divers will benefit from Civilian Repli-Complexes).

I'm also curious if/how this civic changes jobs from hydroponics farms and ringworld farms.
