Oh, aren't we a bit of topic ... ?

No, it's okay, but the Low German (maybe Saxon) names, I think most of them sound a bit ... ancient. But I also think the German names sound ncient, but the Crusader Kings era was a long time ago. But Saxon? Isn't there a better name? I want it to include all the modern Low German people, but Saxon sounds a bit too much like someone from Saxony, or Sachsen. How about Low Saxon? Or Plattdüütsch? No, maybe not Plattdüütsch, but I don't know so much about the Low German history, so I guess you know this better.

And if you're going to have a merged Bohemian and Moravian culture, can't you just have both Bohemian and Moravian names?
Was it totally unlikely that Bohemian would have a Moravian name? Or vice versa? I mean they have been rather similar peoples over the ages. (But that's maybe the samething as Swedes and Danes, a Dane would never have a Swedish name, like Knut or Sven, and a Swede would never have a Danish name, like Knud or Svend)
But you can't just have Bohemian names either, so ... maybe I'll make some comprimises.

Low German developed from Old Saxon and Old Low German spoken until late-middle 12th century was Old Saxon.

However I also think that ideal setup would be Saxon in N.Germany, Frisian and Flemish as shown in Grand Culture Mod map and Saxon(in England) renamed to Anglian or Anglosaxon. Everything else would be German since they spoke High German which is direct predecessor of modern day (High)German language.

And Bohemian and Moravian(and Slovak) is not the same, they are alike but far from being the same.

BTW Finellach, since the Grand Culture Mod seems to be on a standstill, could you post a list of Moravian first names on the forum or PM me ?

I still have a spare-tag and I want to use it. And since now yet has posted a list of that other Gaelic culture, I will ad Moravian to my own game.

Well, the GCM is actually done, but no-ones bothering to test it, which suggests to me more people like to bitch about culture than actually develop a mod. Maybe I'm just cynical. Moreover, there's deadlock on the spare tag, with support for Moravians, a German split, another Finnish tag and a Gall-Gaidheil tag being even.

Well, I'm gonna hold a vote on the spare tag.

Yes the names sound ancient, but that because they are ancient, if you would use modern names, most of them wouldn't then be used and the other would be the same as the 'normal' german names. I wouldn't use Plattduutsch, that is a modern name used for all the dialects that are spoken in northern and eastern germany nowadays. The duchy of Saxony is pretty large in CK and the Brandenburg lands have german culture already in 1066, while they should be having a westernslavian culture in my opinion. So the saxon culture would only be in the duchy of Saxony and maybe Thuringia.
Also the term Low Saxon would be wrong in my opinion cause the term Low Saxon came in to use after the Saxon dynastie moved from the original Saxony (now Lower Saxony) to the Meissen/Lausitz area (now called Saxony).
And of course if you want more generic terms you could always use Low German and High German.

So, Old Saxon and the Old Low German is the samething?

And I didn't mean that Bohemian, Moravian and Slovak are the same, just that they are similar to each other (alike), like the Scandinavian languages. I hope nobody missunderstod that (and by the way I wrote similar, not the same)

Almost, but I believe the differences very minor.

Just that both names, are made up after the CK era to differentiate between the era in the linguistic development.

That's not especially strange, because Old Saxon and Old Low German wasn't old then. ;)
