How about the Restoration of the Coptic Church in Egypt, followed by an Orthodox counter crusade against all of the surrounding muslim nations? I'm a sucker for these 'roll back the clock' fantasies and an orthodox Egypt running from Tunis to Aleppo would be the next best thing to the Byzantium reclaiming all their old possessions.
But seriously: I'm not really asking you to consider this idea. An orthodox Egypt would be an entirely different nation. It would probably require different monarchs, leaders, events, icons, flags, etc. And all for a pie-in-the-sky unlike scenario. Too much work.
What I'd much rather do is talk about Milan and the HRE. The idea of an Italian-German state is kind of growing on me. Tomorrow (its getting really late here) I'll post my general ideas for Milan in the N.Italy thread and start some topics about the HRE. We could talk shop and if we end up on the same page, perhaps I'll ask you to take Milan off my hands -- if you're interested.

I'd like the thank you all for rushing to agree that I'm nuts for even suggesting an orthodox egypt scenario. As I said up front, including something like that is a really low priority, if at all.
Kaigon and I will probably discuss Milan in the N.Italy thread. I'll get the ball rolling there in about 6 hours or so.

Here's a suggestion for Mameluk description:
In 1250 the Mameluks replaced the Ayyubid dynasty in Egypt and their first dynasty, the Bahri (River) dynasty would rule Egypt fot the next 130 years. Named for their barracks on Roda Island, the Bahri Mameluks defended the Islamic empire from the Mongols, who in 1258 swept through Persia and captured Baghdad, massacring the khalif and nearly all his family. Being fit to fight any enemies, the Mameluks were not fit for ruling. Their period was known for many revolts from the egyptian population and it only became worse. Although having a few successful sultans Nasser Mohamed Ben Qalawoon being one of them, the final blow came in the middle of the 14th Century with the Black Death. Turmoil continued under his sons and relatives, who were in general ineffectual or incompetent. The only one of his ten sons that ruled after Nasir and managed to leave anything behind is Hasan. He built what is still possibly the most impressive madrasa in Cairo, which is the Mosque of Sultan Hasan. The Madrasa-mosque is considered to be the finest existing monument in Egyptian architecture. The body of Hasan lies in a marble tomb inside the mosque. None of Nasir's sons reigned for long. The Mameluke emirs kept murdering the sultans as one faction would become more superior than another. Lacking strong sultans to control them, the Bahri (river) and Burgi (Tower) Mamelukes were continually at loggerheads, using their local wars as excuses to plunder the civilian populations. In 1382 an egyptian general, Faruq, took the throne and forcefully crushed what was left of the Bahris and Burgis. Instead Faruq became the head of the new al-Sharay dynasty. Even if the Bahris and Burgis were crushed, the Mameluks had not lost all their power and were still a large part of the army.

The cases I've seen and those I can imagine as possible are either that one side wins, both exists or that Mameluks has been annexed by either Granada or the Caliphate earlier?
Hopefully, the most common case is that either Egypt or the Mameluks has united the egyptian provinces.

They have failed to take it back for a long time, which shows a long time with lack of interest/cohesion..
I see no problems with the inclusion of a few coastal CBs, but you might look at adding (or removing) them by event too.. Jihad/Coexistance or something.
