I notice anonymous hasn't been around. He seemed a bit burned out during the last round of voting, so I dropped him a private message to see what's what, and if we could help.

These quarterly awards seem to be a really good thing for the forums. If anonymous needs the help in running them for awhile, I'm sure some of us'd be willing to lend a hand. Don't they start sometime soon for Q4? Or should they have already started? I dunno, and I don't want to tread on any toes (especially anon's) as I'm a relative newcomer here, but if I can help I will.

I went back and read the first post to get an idea of how this thing works. 2006 Q4 would be October 1st, 2006 through December 31st, 2006. Anonymous started voting on the first day of October for Q3 voting, (which was the first day of Q4), so voting would have normally begun on January 1st, 2007 for Q4 with at least a month and a week for people to cast votes.

I don't want to see this go away as it was a valuable asset. I also don't want to be pushy or tread on anybody's turf and just say that I'll run it. Is it possible to find out what anonymous wants before any of us lend a hand?

And when does the next issue of the Advocate come out? That'd be a good estimate for what our timeframe'd be for getting this kick-started if we do it.

Regarding the LibrAARies - these are done solely by voluntary effort. Quite simply if the person concerned has not had the time to update them because of other committments, then that is why.

Likewise, if someone would want to take over the mantle of librAARian for one of the games, and update the librAARies, correlate the links and what have you, then they would certainly be encouraged to do so!

These are all voluntary efforts. I suggest rather than trying (and failing) to put pressure on these people, you wait or PM them if you have questions. At least Phargle offered to help organize help if Anon needs it.

It could be Anon is waiting until February. Beginning nominations on January 1 would have placed us right in the middle of the holiday season. There was no such issue on October 1 when 4Q voting began.

The libraries are monstrous, thankless tasks. If one is not prepared to actively assist, then the correct answer to 'when will they be updated' is 'when the librarian has the time and energy.'

I agree that this needs to be kept going, but I think maybe we should wait a bit more to see if Anonymous is going to be able to do it.

Much like anything else on the forum, the best way to keep them going is to pick it up and run. People take off all the time and if it is a worthy project, someone will generally act on it. We don't know when anonymous will be back. If people want this to continue, the best way to make that so is to move forward themselves. I am sure anonymous will appreciate it when he returns, if he does (and I hope he does.)
