Hello, and welcome to the revised AARland Choice AwAARds! Please read carefully, because there are some changes to the way this is being conducted.
. . . the changes! (bum bum bum)
1. There are four categories per game: Narrative, History-Book, Comedy, and Gameplay.
2. There are five games: EU, Rome, HoI, CK, and Vicky. Yes, that means EU1/2 and EU3 are merged. Sorry, fellahs.
3. An AAR updated at any point in 2009 is eligible for the entire year.
4. Instead of Q1, Q2, Q3, etc, we'll have four rounds of voting throughout the year. It works the same as quarterly voting, but the difference is more than semantic. Read on:
5. Once an AAR wins a category, it's designated as one of the year's winners - and then it's out of the running for the rest of the year. That way, we get four unique winners for each of the four categories per year.
And a few more thoughts. . .
1. I hope I've run the ACA in a way that convinces people of my commitment to doing it ethically . . . but for my own peace of mind and happiness, any AARs I write while I'm running the ACA are ineligible for competition, and also unsuitable for small children, people with heart conditions, or anyone who can read above the third-grade level. Ta.
2. That said, I invite everyone else to vote, compete, and get into the spirit of things. The ACA works best when we all pull together as a community. Y'all rock, so rock on.
3. Actively campaigning for AARs isn't really in the spirit of AARland. It poisons the process and threatens the ACA. It's cool (very cool) to remind people about the ACA. It's cool to ask them to consider your AAR in a public post in your AAR, and it's cool to say what category you hope to win. Beyond that, it kinda stops being cool. Let's all be cool, like a forum of little Fonzies here.
4. Rome's kinda on thin ice. I'm just sayin'.
5. Try to avoid one-vote posts. There are a lot of terrific AARs out there deserving of attention. The ACA should be here to help build the community of writers and readers, and spreading out the love helps make that happen.
Without further ado, the sample ballot:
