I'm nearly half a dozen naval advances past "Food Supplies" which is supposed to eliminate the attrition penalty due to ships being at sea too long. But I still lost a fleet that was sitting off the Aden coast for years when I forgot about it after Turkey made peace with me!

Well, stuff like that happens to everyone once in a while, im afraid!
Only way to counter it is by paying attention, and looking for your armies and fleets once in a while :)

Even though it diminishes attrition, its a bad habit to count on that... better pay attention, like i said.

Well it was my first experience of BB wars. I was trying to conquer the middle east (as England), fortify my gains in Mexico, put down revolts in Persia and India, capture every single French, Turkish, Venetian and Adenese colony and trading post, keep sending colonists to North America, and take enough of France so that I could demand peace and force them to cede territory to my allies (I didn't want it!) That was one hectic gaming session.

I managed to force peace on all my enemies, and spent a quiet few years just preparing for the next war. It was during the peace that I lost those 40 ships. :( Towards the end of that session I flooded Andalusia with merchants until Spain banned me from her centres of trade. Then I saved the game, 'cause the next few years are going to be busy! :)

Sounds rather hectic to me... :) Do remember to press pause, sit back and take a deep breath once in a while... :)
