Well, I'm glad to see there's still interest :)

I hadn't started a new poll yet because no one had said anything, but since you did...

What would you all prefer: a "Failure" OscAAR, or a character-driven one? Character driven could very well be a two-month thing, as it would probably require nominations or some such nonsense ;)

By the way, Most Completed will come again next month, most likely, or the following one if the character OscAAR is the choice.

Maybe do Best Completed AAR Feb-April and start voting on May 1 (duh) and start taking nominations for "Best Characterization in an AAR" to be voted on in June.

I am so glad that you decided on the Teutons. I was going to suggest that if you had not already decided. BTW, best way to beat the Poles and Lithuanians is to pillage.

I think we should start a pool where everyone puts in a dollar and guesses the date that Sharur will start his AAR. I'll start and pick January 23 2003. Oh, I'll hold the money until a winner is announced.:D

After thinking about it for a long time, I've decided to be brave and post in this AAR forum that seems so scary. Every time it seemed I had the courage, some amazing AAR came along to bring me back to my humble reality. :)

Anyway, I was going to try my hand on the AAR's with Portugal, even wrote the first chapter, but it's being done already.

I suggest that someone post a "sticky" thread that shows all the AAR currently in development, and the one's being posted. :)

Requesting suggestions...

The call of the forum is strong, and the call to an AAR even greater. I know I have part of my reign of Denmark still only in notes (hope to change it soon). I know American Heart has come to an abrupt halt - for those not in the know, my game went corrupt, and I lost my saved games. That also killed my game as Spain where I was trying to build a land route to India instead of taking to the New World, of which I thought to make an AAR.

Anyways, I am currently wondering what scenario I should turn to now and have come up with a few ideas.

- Russia 1700: Peter the Great, during the prime of his reign

- Germany 1617: picking one of the states trying to build a major power during time of religious strife (been done often, and I remember my Saxony game well...)

- Crescent Rising 1419: One of the less prominent muslim nations (Turkish minors, north African nations) to become the Sole Defender of the Faith, and teach those pesky Christians a lesson

Thanks for any input. Should any of you think my AARs suck anyways, and that I should stop wasting webspace with my narratives, I'd appreciate those comments, too. ;)

Of the three possibilities you listed, I think I'd like to see your treatment of Peter the Great most of all...in the sort of considerable depth and detail I know would make it a real treat to read.

As for non-suggested possibilities, I have a hankering to see a really well done Duchy of Athens. Feel up to the challenge?

Suggestions?

I was thinkign about doing a Teutonic Order AAR... with a twist. No matter how long I play, I will only build cavalry. Why? I don't know. :D

If anyone can think of anymore quirks for me to do, I will, but I would like to add "Baltic" to my cultures, just because I don't know why the TO doesn't have it to start with...

thoughts?

That'll be interesting, though I think you'll come to regret it by the time you start running into medium fortresses.

I would think that merely playing the Teutonic order would be enough of a challenge.:)

What are you working on now?

I finally put aside my shiny new copy of Jedi Knight II and picked up EU2 again this past week. After I got through about six pages of notes (~40 years' worth) for the AAR that will come out of it, it occurred to me that if someone is working on an AAR from the same country and it came out just before mine did (don't expect the first installment until early/mid May) it would really suck.

So if you're working on something, whether it comes out or not, let us know. Coordination can't hurt... can it?

Anyway, the country I'm playing is Savoy. It's 1451 and things are going well, save the occasional badboy war that threatens to wipe me off the map. The reason it will take me so long to come out with the finished AAR is that I want to finish the GC first so I can work it all back into a heavily thematic presentation. Some points to look forward to:

Cannibalistic space aliens. A chiseled, cynical hero. Time travel. Ray guns. Explosions. The hunt for the All-Powerful and Infamous P.L.O.T. Device across space and time. Bad one-liners. Bad two-liners. Entire bad paragraphs. Poor grammar and sentence construction. Swear words. Catch phrases. More explosions.

Everything you could ever want from a summer blockbuster save that it will be entirely in text form.

I would say "mark it on your calendars" but if I can't make it come off, this post will be the last you see of it.

OK, so the point is, if you're doing a Savoy AAR, let me know. I don't wanna step on anyone's toes or vice versa.

And otherwise, this is your chance to over-promise something you have no intention of writing just to mess with our heads.

I'm here to serve.

The reason that they don't have Baltic culture, is probably that they were German conquistadors, sent there to "christen" the heathen Baltic peoples. Hence, the Order was far removed from the ordinary peasant. At least that's my understanding of the situation. However, an event could be used to add Baltic culture (similar to the Knights event where they get Greek culture)...?
