And what a full and rich life it must have been so far!

To have witnessed such innovations and discoveries as...

1) the desktop computer
2) phones without rotary dials
3) microwave ovens
4) vcrs
5) compact disks
6) electricity
7) the written word
8) fire

Just kidding, keep up the good work, old man! :D

One more vote...

I like the idea of multiple countries and would suggest rotations of 20-25 years (depending on the number of participants) per player. I'm thinking that the best approach, logistically, would be to play through the alotted turn and post the installments. At the end, there would be a "here's the world map right now" and then there would be a vote/poll of all participants as to what the next country should be.

The only proviso is that the new country must be within a certain limitted geographic area (so there is interaction with the previous posts) and that it can *never* be the same country as has been played within the last 75 years. I would post a list of suggestions/possibilities and you would each vote. Whoever is next on the list would then take on whatever country is selected by the majority.

It will be important to divorce oneself from the potential subsequent destruction of a country that you spent your own 20/25 years building up...and visa versa (meaning you don't leave a country alone just because someone else kept it alive).

As LJ said, I'd be willing to assume logistical responsibility for the project. I actually don't think of the Denmark AAR as "mine" in particular. I think of myself as a facilitator and the thread actually "belongs" to all of us. That said, if someone else would like to try their hand at it, I'm perfectly happy to "step aside" and become a "mere" participant.:)

Thanks for starting the ball rolling LJ. I'll be interested to see what other comments and suggestions are forthcoming.

Well I survived the festivities.

After LD got me thoroughly drunk the evening before (I thried to resist, honest, but he's a mod so he's allowed to force me :D) I dragged my sorry behind into the office, bleerily made my way through the day, and then high-tailed it to the nearest purveyor of beveridge alcohol to get some of the hair of the dog that bit me and play the second round of our team's playoff bid to take the dart league's trophy for the second year running. Strangely, my darts were fantastic and I went 3 for 3. Perhaps proof that I really am a FOOL!!!

Hey Sharur: Happy (very) belated. Actually, the same goes for everyone else who's recently celebrated a birthday...say in the last 12 months or so.:D

heagarty: Frankly I was pretty happy when the species evolved to get rid of all that extra hair on women's bodies.:D

Ahem. I'm the defense minister for the tories. Please read and stop going after the job, or I"ll have you sent to the tower.

Anyway, here are my first two proposals: We must hold in Northumberland. If we can, all is well. If we can't (and maybe even if we can) I suggest offering the Scottish Meath for peace. It'sa barren wasteland on a barren isle. We can then ship troops from Anglia to the continent.

Regarding the France situation: Send King Henry after Paris. Hopefully, it will fall shortly, dperiving them of revenue. After such a show of force, severla french "vassals" will break and offer peace. Accept, but I believe that once we have broken that back of France, we can turn on them, by 1430 or 50. I leave command of the southern Army to another defense minister.

Barring any divine intervention (or insane hallucinatory farm wenches) it seems that we will easily win. If we forced themt o kneel before the English king, would we be able to diplomatically annex them at some point?

Blah.

Try Navarra! No one EVER picks them! They got 500d's at the start, state cultures that cover all the territories around you, you're a minor, AND there's many potential enemies you can go to war with...

I would do an AAR of them, but I have to see where I go first. :D

Keep your eyes open, then. Once we've decided on exactly what we're doing and how it'll be handled logistically, whoever's "running" it (probably me) will post a "Calling all authors" sort of post that outlines the idea and asks for volunteers. That's how I started the Denmark thing... As soon as you see it, respond in tthat thread.

(That's my way of saying that I'll probably forget that you're interested by the time it actually gets rolling so it'll be easier if you request to be involved in it again then.:))

Ahem, if I may...

... let people choose their own country. They'll have more fun with it that way. If you want connections between segments, my suggestion would be that everyone take a fairly broad view in their write-ups, and not just concentrate solely on their own country. This could be a little difficult for first-person narrative types, but would allow for more freedom of choice, and a wider range of countries, yet would make for some degree of coherence.

In addition, I'd say make it simply 2 or 3 people max to a particular country, and make sure they are fairly spread out time-wise. Some people will unavoidably want to play the same country, however, the optimal setup would be a different country for every person.

How about a game aimed at creating a 'European Union' before 1819? :)
The aims of the game? To conquer all territory currently in the European Union, and no more territory than that. No colonies or tradeposts.
Otherwise; tolerance for both protestantism and catholicism, full decentralisation (to model the current state of affairs in the EU) and full free subjects. How's that for a challenge, LD?
:)

I'd love to join in as SNP representative. ;) Or maybe there's no such thing as the Scottish National Party in the 15th century?
'Ah'd dae it anywey', said Doug... :D

Otherwise, I won't be able to participate, since my anarcho-syndicalist conviction tells me that this assembly is not representative to the worker's interests.

Not ambitious enough. Add the requirement that diplomatic annexation should be the rule of the day. :) Although getting rid of superflous colonies might be difficult.

Ramo: Your ideas about the tories in those days (and now) are correct apart from the tories would be very pro centralism, they are the ones which nationalise all the industries etc its labour which privatises them so they arnt run by the government :D
Also no you dont have to follow the party tendancies of today, its AH for gods sake :D make up your own policies, and then if you stick to them ill give you points for roleplaying which will help you in the elections.
And i might replace liberals however it is a "modern" parliment so the liberals have to be included im afraid.

Toranaga: Yep feel free to email everyone in your party, after all if your party is a cohesive fighting machine, not literally, then youve got more chance of picking up votes...

The_Hawk: Yes, its very fine to have characters from the nobility, in fact i encourage you immensely to have them, after all though this is a "modern" parliment there is almost no chance of a common person being elected because they wouldnt have the money to mount a campaign ;)

O.Cromwell: Your now the leader of the liberals, good luck

Ariel: Nope, no problems with you writing reports for a newspaper, although in these times paper was expensive lol, but hey it is AH right...

pds: Your now the liberals defense minister.

HJ: Yep your now the whig defense minister, yours is a tough job at first but im sure your up to the challenge...

Right then Gentlemen, it seems like we only need to fill two positions, and both of them are the chancellors positions for the whigs and the liberals. So come on volunteers (Norgesvenn???)

Right the first post i will do in the new thread, which i will make obviously, will detail the position in 1419. ie how much land we hold, our diplomatic position, our DP settings, our land techs, our treasury sliders, how many diplomats we have and will get and that for everything, so in fact its the most comprehensive thing i can do apart from sending you the save :D This is so the ruling party has the information to lay out its manifesto from which the other partys can tear apart.

Manifesto's:

When a party lays out its manifesto the other party's get the chance to object to any points in it that they see as being a problem, if you do object then post your argument to it and then there will hopefully be a counter argument from the leading party. I will decide which argument is better (oh and the leading party gets a slight advantage here because i cant have you destroying every policy they make :D )

If you agree with a point then dont say anything, or applaude it if you wish to show support.

Example, in the whigs manifest they wish to raise war taxes to fight the continuing war with france, if the tories come up with an intresting argument for that then i wont do it. Im bound to you guys :D

Opposition parties can also post manifestos of what they would do if they were in power, thus you can higlight the weaknesses etc of the oppositions manifesto.

Its complicated but hey, welcome to politics. Also i will pvt message the leaders of all three partys if something huge comes up (like america declaring independance, mass decleration of wars, enemy encamped in anglia, you know those kind of things :D )

It will then be the leaders responsibility to tell the rest of their party the situation, after all thats also what happens today.

As i said im coming up with some of this stuff as i go along, so bear with me. Hopefull we will have both the positions filled tommorow, and if you request i will wait another few days so you can get your policys sorted between yourselves before i post. Otherwise... Game on!!!

Oh yeah and i expect in the first manifesto for the leading party to have some clearly defined things to get out of this war, because if you dont then i wont take any of them, and thats a bad way to end this war you know. ;)

I'll be a chancellor, why not? This one sounds like a real hoot. Now, since I could never, ever live with being called a "Liberal" (stinking Chretien and his horse's ass mouth, grumble, grumble, grumble) I would like to tkae the whig position. If it is still available. Could you post the complete list? Maybe just cut and paste it to the end of the thread, so it is at the beginning and the end, makes it easier for people to see who is who.
