Hmm.

What if the Americans took pommern, and the euros savoy (or vice versa)?

I'd go with hard/furious. BB wars are well and good, but.... remember, if we spend years upon years waiting for bb to go wdown, it won't be that interesting.

Maybe a certain player (1 out of 4 or somesuch) turns the game onto vhard/furious, rides out the bb wars, and then reverts back?

Then we have to grow strong before getting in to the trouble, Very Hard means a boring, pacific game at the start and a certainly more interesting play at the end :).

Do what is most comfortable/appealing to you. There are fans of all types/styles of AAR's here.:)

I myself tend to stray away from reading the more longwinded and involved/non-game related AAR's...but..this is from a lack of dedicated time on my part...not a lack of quality on the part of the authors. Some of the longer works are excellent...and...I wish I had more time to fully appreciate them.:)

Speaking from experience, you'll probably find the narrative/lecture format easier to handle for a 400-year campaign. Once you've got a few of those under your belt, I'd love to see you tackle the first idea...

I'd just like to remind everyone debating difficulty that BB declines by 1 point every 8 years on Hard, and 1 point every 6 years on Very Hard. Thus, if we DON'T want to spend time waiting around for BB to decrease, then we should probably go with Very Hard. (Yes, I know this sounds backwards, but it has been confirmed via testing. You can see the discussion of the decrease rates here.)

If you don't like BB wars, then don't start them. You can expand an awful lot without descending to the depths of dishonourable scum, especially if you play as a European country that benefits from the BB exemption on pagan provinces and DoW's.

What's all this about comparing VP's, BB, territory at the end of the game. Surely the question will be about who conquers the world first!!

Unless we play a game where you have certain fixed rules like

a) No turbo-annex
b) No DoW without a CB
c) No truce-breaking

If we follow these basic rules then I'd also play it one Hard rather than Very Hard since the natural inclination of AI to DoW the Human-BB makes conquest too easy.

Well, I did do some historical research while in Mo. And I played some this morning. Hopefully by this time tomorrow I'll be enough into the game to start writing. I can promise to have the first post to a new Gelre/Dutch AAR no later than Friday AM Denver time.

BTW, if anyone would be interested in role-playing, collaborating or otherwise contributing an effort here or there just drop me a line here or at rangersg@juno.com before the first post of the AAR comes up, I'll include a similar offer there.

There's a History Parser utility available. I think the link's stickied here. :)

Edit: It's stickied in the AARtifacts. :)

Or just use Notepad to open your latest save game, scroll down about seven eights of the way and you'll find the complete history log listed...

Just copy the chunk you need and then paste into Word, then run a quick search and replace to get rid of all the quotation marks and what have you.

Okay, I had decided on a Puritan game after all...

But I've now twice played the 1617 scenario, basically hands off, and both times the Puritans failed to form.

Any ideas on how I can "pursuade" the Puritans to form by revolt (rather than by artificially setting them free)? Any help would be much appreciated.

Mind you, I still use pencil and paper heavily since there's quite a bit of information that isn't recorded in the history log.

Example:

Jan. 2, 1489: "Our stability dropped."

Without having made a note by hand (or ALT+TAB to Notepad) you won't know if that was a DP adjust or war taxes...

You also have no idea of troop sizes and stuff like that. I'd suggest making hand notes of anything really important or make sure that it has been correctly recorded in the log.

Or, when you finish playing and exit the game go to the EU II folder and open it. There you will find a text file labeled History. Open that with word and you have a history of your last game. Beware that this file is erased every time you start the game again. I copy it to the desktop every time I finish playing for the day. Most but not all events are listed in this file so as MrT said a pen and paper is still needed but this file reduces the need greatly.

i never even thought of the old cut and paste. i just scribble down the events and go back and work it into the story later.

Maybe keep editing their stability at -3 and wait for the revolts to kill them? I'd imagine the Puritans would form at some point.

No need to edit. Save papal game right before civil war. Switch to England. Give yourself some bigtime revolt risk from the console (sorry can't remember the command). Wait a month or two for independence. Voila.

Better yet give yourself a civil war. Can't remember whether that's still possible in EUII though.
