I'm working on a draft of the Eastern Europe map for you to check out... there have been no Moldavia AARs yet. Would you put it in Eastern Europe or the Mediterranian/Black Sea?

I'd put it in the Med/Black Sea group.

Thanks for giving this a shot, BTW. Most appreciated!

Just wanted to pretend to use all those cartography classes I took once upon a time.

Right then. How about this:

Pretty good. Two things though...

(1) Can you back out size-wise to a map resolution/coverage that's more like this:
1602pol.jpg

(2) It'll need to be down-sized a bit...say to something like 400 pixels wide. After all it just needs to be a roughly representative map. It isn't necessary to be able to read the individual country names.

Thanks again!!!!!!

I can reduce the width... but that map is actually at the maximum zoom-out. Eastern Europe in particular is a problem because it goes from Denmark to Sibir, which are a helluva long way apart.

I just took it down to 400x300, see if that helps.

Edit: What I should do is take two screenies and try to splice them...

Hmmm. Does your monitor support higher resolutions? If you change your screen res then you can zoom out further. Otherwise I could e-mail you zoomed-out screenshots when I get home (or just do the damn thing myself).

I imagine that a bit of stitching may end up being necessary in the end, though. How 'bout we leave it for a few hours until I get home and see how much I can fit on my screen at once.

For the sake of everyone else, I guess we should continue this conversation via email...I'll drop you a line when I get home...about four hours from now.

Highly. I was intending to try it out when I get home where I have PhotoShop 6.0 and can do multi-layer masking.

Thank you for investing such an amount of time and effort in this forum, MrT! :)

Together with LD, you run one fine forum. No complaints, no (well, not a lot, anyway) spam and a lot of inspiration and quality.

I believe your writing is an inspiration to many of us.

:)

Thanks LD, and thank you all. I couldn't do it for a nicer bunch of people (and I sure as hell wouldn't do it for a worse bunch of people ;)) and I'm glad you like it. I'll confess that it's been quite a chore (more than I originally thought it would be) but on the other hand I've had a delightful time reading some of the early AARs that I'd never looked at before.

Actually, it's essentially finished other than wanting to add the regoinal maps. I'm pretty sure I've got everything else in there. The real trick will be keeping it up to date. For that I'll need people's help.

Things I can sort by:
Region, country, author, thread ID (meaning I could produce a chronological list of AARs in the order that they were first posted), thread title, and game start date. If anyone wants to see a different sort than I've supplied in the LibrAARy sticky, let me know.

Anyway...glad to be of service. :)

It would probably be easier because you can just make one pic, make a duplicate layer from it, and then erase black from the oceans on the upper layer. You wouldn't even need to make the third layer to mask the castles.

Wow. That was incredibly easy.

Thanks Carligula for your efforts.

I took a couple screenies and whipped of the masks in about half an hour when I got home. I figure they'll do for the purpose I had in mind. I really appreciate your giving it a whirl though.

Any form of Photoshop is obviously going to look better than my scribblings. :) Glad you got it looking the way you wanted.
