Okay, I started a new AAR, normal/normal, missions on, random/historical events on, with only my nation as a 'major', which means that, yes, ANY nation in Europe COULD be annexed! (Except mine, of course. :p) I'll try to do this in parts, and there will be some screenshots and some mentions of other wars, since Naples is not a big power and doesn't get in a lot of wars.

First part 1492 - 1502, The Republic of Naples... OR "How I survived Spain and lived to tell about it"

It was the Year of Our Lord 1492, and the country of Naples was facing a peculiar situation. Just as I was appointed Baron, Alfonso II found the country's sovereignty threatened. Years ago, our country became the vassals of Spain. Spain, a powerful country, seems to be on the rise, and no doubt that in order to stay in competition with the other powers, Spain will need all the resources it can get. Naples was the bottom part of the 'boot' of Italy, with a decent supply of resources. If Spain had control of this, they would have a new 'foothold', so to speak, in Southern Italy, and it would help if the surging Ottoman Empire tries to spread its heretic Islam into mainland Europe.

But we can't allow it. Naples was enjoying its political autonomy, and although we cherish our good relations with Spain, we cannot let them just turn us into another province of Spain. The larger countries for far too long have ruled this kingdom, and a good number of people feel it is time to be our own rulers.

January 1
Alfonso II is our current monarch, but his health is already failing. Our nobles have become 'impatient', which is not necessarily restless, but that could change any time. We are a mere vassal of the Spaniards, but we will have to change this very soon. For the time being, we will work on our budget and preparing for the worst.

January 18
Word came that the Russians declared war on Kazan. I did not care, for that was on the other side of the Earth. Besides, what good would these two accomplish other than bloodshed.

For the rest of the year, we have been building our treasury, getting ready. But the nobles and the people are growing more and more restless.

1493
January 1
It happened. After much consideration by the monarch, the nobles, and the advisors, we have sent a diplomat to Spain. The message, we are now at war. Word spread quickly, and everyone was devastated. This country may have been a vassal, but it was a peaceful country. Now we're in a situation that looks very bad. A war... with the mighty Spaniards? The Spaniards must think we're crazy!

(Game terms: Yes, I DID declare war on Spain. I must be crazy. Also, stability fell to -3, and Milan joined on the side of Spain, but they didn't do anything.)

February 1
17,000 people signed up for the Army on Napoli, under the leadership of Field Chief Judge Fedinand II. All infantry, though, since it costs us a good portion of our treasury just to suit them up.

February 16
News came that the infidel Turks declared war on the infidel Mameluks. Good, let them wear each other out.

April 19
Apparently, the Spaniards were not able to quash Grenada. Grenada only paid 250 ducats in indemnities. Although we condemn these infidels, they give us some hope that we can get out of this war with Spain without paying a heavy price.

April 30
Our old former rulers the French declare war on England. Their puppet Savoy and our neighbor the Papal States join in. No doubt the French will try to retake Calais.

March 11
Good news for us. The Spaniards become embroiled in another war, this time joining the Poles, Milan, and Lorraine against the Teutonic Order. However, I feel that Spain will not jump in anyway. Besides, they have us traitors to worry about.

May 18
While the French have been fortifying in Northern Europe and had many troops stationed, the English decide to go south... and invade Rome! Already analogies are being made between the fall of the Roman Empire and the sacking of Rome, and the English invasion force. I don't feel compelled to get involved, since we are in a war ourselves... speaking of which, where are the Spaniards?

June 23
The Teutonic Order pays only 48 ducats to end a potentially big war with the Polish alliance. I wish we would get off that easily.

June 10
The infidel Mameluks are no match for the infidel Turks. The Turks get Aleppo, Samaria, and Nuyssabin from them in the peace treaty that ended the war.

August 17
The Mameluks only lost three provinces. The Kazan lost their nationhood, as the Russians annex them completely.

September 1
Our stability has increased to +1 by now. Thank God this 'war' hasn't escalated yet.

September 8
The Poles, with our 'friends' the Spaniards, Milan and Lorraine declare war on the infidel Turks. Hopefully this war will wear out the Spaniards and the Turks, so we don't have to deal with them in the future.

September 30
Meanwhile, somewhere else, Aden declares war on Oman. At least they don't have the Spaniards on their tail... where are they, anyway?

1495
January 1
We made several white peace offers to Spain, with no results. Furthermore, our monarch Alfonso II has passed on. Ferdinand II now becomes our ruler, though I think maybe his rule will be short.

March 2
The infidels Turks have invaded Messina, in Sicily! This is a mixed blessing to us, and the Spaniards may lose its foothold in which to attack us. (When ARE they attacking us, anyway?) On the other hand, I hate to contemplate the effects of a Turk invasion of Naples. Compared to the Spaniards, the Turks are a lot worse.

April 1
(Game terms: Random Event)
There is treachery in our ranks! We shall simply eliminate them. They feel our war with the Spaniards is stupid. I could almost agree with them, but I shall destroy them still.

April 18
The Spaniards repulse the Turks from Messina. We are in no doubt next.

1496
January 1
The 'Phoney War' continues. We invest in land tech, in the hopes of our Army being able to fight well when the Spaniards invade.

April 7
The Poles get Bujak from Turkey in the peace treaty, ending the war. Now the Spaniards feel Naples is their next target.

May 3
The Spanish march from Messina to Apulia to seige our city. This is it. We sent our Army to intercept.

July 4
Failure. The Army of Napoli is too weak. They retreat with moderate losses though, and inflicted some casualties.

October 4
We sent the Army back again, but lost once more. We must free Apulia!

October 10
To contemplate disaster, I took out a loan, ready to use it in case the Spaniards succeed. I do not use the money though.

December 14
The Papal States are lucky in their war with England. Not only have they repelled the English siege of Rome, but they got Leinster and Connaught in a peace treaty with England. The Pope has control of parts of Ireland? What is the Earth coming to?

1497
January 2
Our monarch is gone, and our country is thrown into an odd succession. Instead of another king, the people of Naples have installed the "Republic of Naples". Do they think a "Republic" will do better than a King?

January 18
A war throws the Balkans into chaos, with Venice, Persia, Hungary, the Mameluks, the Hanseatic League and Grenada declare war on Turkey. I wonder if this odd coalition can do the job of shrinking the Ottomans.

May 27
Once again, our Army marches in Apulia, but lose again. We must be strong.

October 15
The Mameluks get Samaria from Turkey in a peace deal. That's it?

April 25
A Russian-Dane alliance declare war on the Golden Horde. But no surprise if this turns out to be Russia's war.

September 26
The Spaniards besiege Apulia again. We must do something!

1499
January 30
The 'war' still goes on, and the Spaniards can't seem to capture Apulia. I wonder about their military. Also, news come that the Golden Horde paid 224 ducats to Russia.

April 6
We tried one final time to push away the Spaniards, but lost again. However, attrition and the battles have taken their toll, and the Spaniards can no longer storm Apulia. We are saved for now.

ScreenSave1.gif

The Spaniards can't storm Apulia, the fools. Can't they just send more troops? I don't get them.

1500
March 20
A new century, and the 'war' goes on, and nothing happens. We hope a White Peace can be signed soon, so we decided to do nothing but build up our Army and wait. I repated the loan, thankfully, so no worries about a potential economic crisis. Meanwhile, the Venetian merchants have got a big prize, as they get Bosnia, Trabzon, and 213 ducats from Turkey. I guess luck was on their side.

April 26
England finally concedes Calais in the peace deal with France, ending that war.

1502
July 1
For a long time we waited. A 15k Army was built, while the Spaniards just STOOD there in Apulia, losing men to attrition. A diplomat from Spain was sent from the monarchs Ferdinand and Isabelle to our city. After many months where nothing really happened, Spain decided to accept our independence from vassalage, and to call off the invasion. Naples was finally free, only this time we have a Republic instead of a Kingdom. I must say it is one of the strangest wars ever conceived. No doubt this phoney war will go down in history, but at least the people of Naples can say proudly: We are free!

End Part 1

Coming in Part 2: While Naples recovers from the phoney war, what will the new Republic do to better relations with Spain? Also, find out how the odd Venetian alliance does against a Papal alliance as well as a Turkish army that seems to be sleeping on the job! All in Part 2! :)

Until then,
Alex Gariepy

Part 2: The Recovery, 1502 - 1515... OR "Those wacky merchants from Venice and the Pope's little empire!"

1502
July 28
The war with Spain was over, and although the cost was great in terms of lives, our economy wasn't too shabby. We still had to deal with the costs of the military as well as our trade. We managed to get some trade going in Venice. Meanwhile, in a way of showing that there were no hard feelings, both the Republic and Spain agree to a Royal Marriage. I think I'm gonna cry... these weddings always get to me... hopefully, we can build relations back up while still retaining our new-found independence. Speaking of Spain, we heard of reports of Spain sending troops in a war against some sort of Aztec Empire? Must be this 'New World' thing they talked so much about.

1503
May 1
Aden and Oman agree to a status quo peace. I still have no idea where those two countries are, but I heard they were somewhere on the fringes of unexplored areas our cartographers missed.

October 9
Europe is once again thrown into chaos. The Pope, still smug about that war with the English, decided to declare war on Venice, who also was smug after beating the Turks. It also looks like they're bringing their alliances to play. France, Savoy, and Helvetia side with the Pope, while Venice brings in Grenada, Hungary, Persia, the Mameluks, and the Hanseatic League. I wonder how this is gonna turn out.

1504
January 5
Venetian and Hungarian troops, totaling 15k, march into Mantua to meet with the 17k Papal Army. Venice and the Pope, those bad boys...

February 16
The Venetian/Hungarian troops rout the Papal Army, and now the Venetians with 9k strong march into Emilia to fight the 10k Papal Army left. The Hungarians stay behind at Mantua to catch some Venetian air.

March 2
The Venetians eliminated the Papal Army at Emilia, and without any losses too. I wonder how the Venetians can do that so easily. I wish our Army could've had one victory against the Spaniards.

April 14
A 14k Venetian force lays siege on Emilia. The Pope's Army at 14k in Rome decided to stay and wait for attrition to wear out the Venetians. However, I don't think that'll be the case.

ScreenSave2.gif

How come Venice has colored uniforms and we don't? Maybe it's the CoT they have and their economy. In any case, is the Pope twiddling his thumbs at this siege of Emilia?

July 10
Well, I never thought I'll see the day. Venice is now in a two-pronged war! The Turks are mad as heck and they brought Algiers and Tripoli into the war with the Venetian alliance. Now this is a bad sign, for Venice, I mean. Meanwhile, the Hungarians bring in 7k to help the siege on Emilia. The Papal Army in Rome is still waiting.

December 29
The Venetians capture Emilia. I think the Pope needs to rethink his strategy.

1505
January 6
The Pope finally marches his 13k force to Emilia to face the 13k Venetian/Hungarian force. Meanwhile, in the East, the Turks siege Trabzon, while the Persians 5k army fights a 2k Turk army at Adana. I wonder why Venice wanted a province so far away from their mainland... probably the same reason why the Pope wanted a part of Ireland. These two are so alike, yet they're in a bitter conflict.

January 22
I heard news about the Spaniards obliterating the Aztec Empire in the New World. I wish to see this 'New World' they talk about one of these days. Meanwhile, the Persians beat the Turks at Adana.

January 30
The Pope's army routs the Venetian/Hungarian army from Emilia and are now laying siege. Go figure.

March 5
The Mameluks capture Nuyssaybin from Turkey. Where are the Turks anyway?

April 16
Persia launches sieges on Sivas and Aleppo, while the Venetians and Hungarians storm Kosovo. Still no sign of the Turks.

June 9
Persian and Mameluk troops beat a 3k sitting Turk army at Azana with 11k. There is no siege yet.

June 12
A naval engagement, with the Venetian Navy (5 ships) routing the Papal Navy (3 ships) at the Gulf of Venice.

June 26
What are the Turks doing? Are they taking a lesson from the war we had with the Spaniards? They have 23k at Dobrudja, 20k at Hellas, 3k in Albania, 6k at Morera, 22k sieging Trabzon that seems to be going nowhere, and 6k at Angora. And other than the siege, they are just doing NOTHING? I'm confused.

July 12
I guess I didn't notice but the French at the time was laying siege on Sierra Navada. Ah well. Granada was promptly knocked out of the war, paying 250 ducats to France.

September 13
Oh, so NOW the Persians are laying siege to Azana...

1506
January 6
The Pope finally retakes Emilia. What else is going to happen?

April 22
The Persians capture Sivas from the sleeping Turks. They shouldn't be concentrating so much on Trabzon, or whatever those other units are doing.

July 6
The Pope now marches his 12k army in Mantua and lays siege. I hope, for Venice's sake, they're not sleeping like the Turks are.

August 29
The Mameluks managed to keep Nuyssaybin enough to get a peace with Turkey. It's now back in their hands. However, this peace was done on an alliance level, therefore ALL the gains Venice/Hungary and Persia had at the expense of Turkey was now lost, and Trabzon was free from Turkish siege. What a stupid, stupid war.

October 29
The Pope captures Mantua, but now the Venetians have their eyes squarely on the Pope's movement, and the armies that fought in Turkey are now coming to intercept. Watch out!

1507
February 21
He should've watched out, but the Venetian/Hungarian army quickly wiped out the Papal Army. They're now laying siege on Mantua.

March 1
The nobility are proud at our good policies, and give us about 200 ducats as a bonus! We used that money to expand trade, upgrade our bailiffs, add to our military, and build better relations with Spain.

August 6
The Papal/Venetian war draws to a close, with the Pope losing 116 ducats to Venice in the peace treaty. Serves him right! Nonetheless, the Pope is still at war with the other countries. (Hungary, Mameluks, Persia, Hanseatic League and Grenada.)

August 24
Ladies and Gentlemen, the stupidest war since the Naples/Spain conflict! Baden declares war on the Swiss... who bring in their alliance members France, Savoy, and the Pope. Baden has a 10k Army, while Helvetia alone has 68k... and I don't think Baden can hope for a White Peace this time. Idiots. On another note, Apulia has a new regiment with 3k. Yes, it's not much, but we're happy that there is SOME defense.

October 20
Helvetia assaults Baden...

November 2
Helvetia captures Baden...

November 5
Helvetia annexes Baden... what a mismatch.

ScreenSave3.gif

Helvetia to Baden: All your province are belong to us. (Kinda funny, since my first AAR was with Helvetia. :p)

1508
July 1
Our Bailiffs are now Tax Collectors, which means more tax revenue.

August 28
Rebellion in Venetian Trabzon. La-di-da.

ScreenSave4.gif

Trabzon under rebel siege. Now see what happens, Venice, when your mainland is too far away to help. Thankfully, you may be able to land troops.

October 24
Another surprise I did not notice. While the Papal States were reeling over their loss to Venice, they win a decisive victory at an amphibious assault on Sierra Nevada (Grenada). A peace treaty was soon signed, and the Pope claims another odd piece of land, next to the parts of Ireland.

1509
May 17
The Georgians declare war on Persia... who bring in the entire Venetian alliance to their disposal. Sheesh, and I thought the ex-monarch of Baden was crazy.

October 4
The Spaniards are once more exploring the New World, and once again declare war on another empire. This time it is a group called the Incas. I must ask the Spaniards at one point how many empires ARE there in this world.

December 18
The Georgians pay the Mameluks 95 ducats for peace, but the Persians are still at their throats.

1510
February 4
Georgia was soon beaten and annexed by Persia. It came as no surprise to everyone.

December 1
After months of inactivity, the French sign a white peace with the Venetian alliance. Good, now there would be no more of those odd Pope campaigns.

1511
November 13
Aden declare war on Oman once more, but are shocked to find Oman in an alliance with Algiers, Tripoli, and the Ottomans. Talk about one-sided.

1512
The Spaniards, in a somewhat intriguing gesture, invite us to join a military alliance with them, Milan, Lorraine, Poland, the Palatinat, and Scotland. Although we had mixed feelings about joining up with a country that we formerly went to war to, we accept. This alliance will prove useful and help us to better relations with other nations. Plus, Spain had one of the most powerful armadas in the world, and since we don't have a strong navy, they will help us avoid any possible amphibious invasions.

August 1
Aden didn't stand a chance against Oman and the infidel alliance, and paid 209 ducats to Oman in the peace treaty.

November 2
Spain is once again known for its inactivity, much like it was during our war with them. They signed a White Peace with the Incas. Maybe they couldn't reach them, I don't know.

1513
August 20
The Pope is at it AGAIN... this time he dragged France and Savoy to war against our neighbors to the north, Parma and Tuscany. The Pope was probably hoping to get a new batch of territories in Italy. What a fool.

September 27
I never thought I saw such determination. I secretly cheered on the Parma/Tuscany force (11k) rout a huge 33k Papal Army and a smaller 7k Army. Tuscany smelled tributes and went and laid siege on Romagna, along with the routed Parma army.

December 14
Alas, the French and their Savoy puppets come to the rescue, laying siege on Modena, routing the Parma Army there.

1514
May 28
Tuscany forces finally capture Romagna, and head to Emilia for the next siege. Meanwhile, France and Savoy are still laying siege on Modena.

June 1
A small Papal Army heads to Romagna to retake the territory, but has to go through the Tuscany garrison, who will not bow down to the bad boy Pope.

August 1
Savoy gets 250 ducats from Parma for its trouble, now only the French in Modena remain.

December 17
Tuscany signs a peace deal with the Pope. Romagna is now in their hands.

December 25
Parma captures Emilia and offer Pope a peace deal. The fool accepts it, and French troops head back home empty-handed. The Pope's mainland is confined to Rome now, although his exploits in Grenada and Ireland still give him something. Nonetheless, the poor dope is now helpless at home, with a small force left.

ScreenSave5.gif

What Italy looked like after the Pope lost his territories to Parma and Tuscany. About time he got what he deserved!

1515
May 2
The Pope has another problem to worry about now. A man, I forget his name, Martin something or other, began some movement to split from the Catholic church as a sign of "Reformation". Whatever. In any case, the Republic of Naples is unaffected. Sure, we find the Pope annoying and outright idiotic, but we will stick by the Faith, thank you very much!

July 25
In the north, the situation between Denmark and Sweden deteriorates as Sweden cancels its vassal status. Maybe a few insulting letters was all it was needed to get rid of our vassal status instead of war. Ah well. Too late now.

End Part 2

Coming in Part 3: See how Naples gives it to the Pope, and how Naples suffers through constant Portuguese invasions! All this and a little more! Stay tuned!

Until then,
Alex Gariepy

Well, it's working on my end, but in case the EU message board is the problem, the screenshots are at:

Thanks, but as I, and soon you will, find out, I am pretty limited in my abilities. Not to mention that the Pope's little territories in Ireland and Grenada prevent me from annexing him. You'll see later how annoying this'll be to my guys.

After Part 3, there'll be Part 4, and then I'll have to go back and play some more. Any advice (other than "annex the Pope" :p) would be nice.

Thanks. :) As for the Republic thing, I guess that was because the Kingdom of Naples fell between the French and Spaniards. Here's a wee bit of history on it.

I'm never one to be good at history, though. At least not in this era. This game's giving me a bit of a history lesson, so good for them! :)

As for advices on future Naples policy, perhaps you could consider going against one of those Northen African muslim countries. Some of them (like Tripolitania or Tunis) are single province countries so they might be easy targets. And Tripolitania is pretty rich province producing ivory. of course it may well depend on whether they have strong allies or not. Or you could try to get a shipyard generating you some colonists and thus allowing more peacfull expansion. Ragusa is not far, but I don't know if you want a war with Venice.

Nice AAR m8. V. entertaining. The 'grab a shipyard' policy is a good one, wait until Venice are dragged into a big war then pounce on 'em, and then start badgering Spain to trade discoveries with you so you can actually put it to good use. Failing that, there's probably not a lot you can do until England gets its act back together and re-takes Ireland and Spain gets annoyed enough to kick the Pope out of Granada. Unless you want to try the diplomatic annexation route - spend money improving your relations with Parma and Florence and then try to vassalise and annexe them - expensive, but better for your bad boy rating than invading.

Anyway, keep going, I'm intrigued to see how it all pans out...

Part 3: Naples fights back, 1517 - 1536... OR "Teaching the Pope a lesson and wondering what's with Portugal!"

1517
November 12
Things were quiet in 1516, but late in 1517, the Pope once again smells blood... but it is our blood he smells. He drags the French, Swiss, Genoa and Savoy into a war against Spain, Scotland, Lorraine, Milan, Poland, the Palatinat, and us. He shall regret the day he messed with the Republic of Naples! So I decided to use the money in the treasury I was saving for upgrades to recruit some men in Naples.

1518
January 10
The Pope sends his army to attack Naples! Our men scramble and hold on for the worse.

January 18
I can't believe it! Our men push off the Pope! Now it is time to bring the war to Rome! So we send all our men and march on north.

ScreenSave6.gif

It takes us a while, but we attack Rome with all we got! The Papal Army, despite its calvary and artillery, are no match for us.

February 14
We attack Rome with all we got! Just like the screenie above here.
(If the screenies don't work, don't worry. They are at: www.geocities.com/alexsaars/ )

March 28
The Spaniards send 4k of help in the fight. Long ago, they marched on our Republic as enemies, now they are greeted as friends and heroes. I just hope when Rome falls it'll be under our flag.

April 25
Genoa sneaks an amphibious invasion on our shores, but new recruits heading to Rome fight them.

ScreenSave7.gif

Before Spain could send help, Genoa comes in to sneak an offensive, but my recruits are coming any minute...

May 29
The recruits retreat to Apulia, as their morale is not yet high enough. Nonetheless, Genoa has too few men.

June 3
Genoa has lost too many men to attrition, and they disband. The Genoa 'threat' is no more.

August 27
Milan and France sign to a status quo, while Helvetia gets 162 ducats from Milan in a peace treaty. Those lucky Swiss.

September 14
We captured Rome! The Pope pleas with us, and we offer a peace... since we can not annex the Pope (yet), we ask to drain all of the Pope's treasury. Over 200 ducats are sent to our treasury, and our country rejoices in its victory over the Pope. He may have gone off this time, but we're not one to be discouraged.

1519
January 1
Karl V of Austria becomes the Holy Roman Emperor, not that I care. I never really understood the HRE.

March 9
Lorraine loses 208 ducats to France in a peace treaty. It could've been worse for them. Meanwhile, Helvetia signs a status quo with Lorraine.

April 1
France and Genoa sign a white peace with us. Only Savoy and the Swiss are to worry.

October 28
France gets Artois and Franche Comte from Spain in a peace treaty... looks like Spain is weaker on land than on the sea.

1520
February 23
The Poles and Spaniards launch their own attack on Rome! Oh, poor Pope. I ALMOST pity him.

May 27
The Pope pays 173 ducats to Poland for peace. I wonder how the Pope can raise that much money.

September 8
Helvetia pays 175 ducats to Spain for peace. That takes care of them.

1521
January to July
A Savoy army (2k) rushes into Romagna to attack the Tuscany Army there. They are no match for them, so they retreat... into OUR territory. Now, I know when we're kicking a dog while it's lying down, but they were at war with us, so we feel it is our duty to eliminate them. The Savoy army is eliminated in a series or battles between us at Naples and Tuscany.

November 20
The infidels are at it again. Turkey's now bringing Tripoli, Algiers and Wallachia to war against the Mameluks, Venice, and the Hanseatic League. I do not like the looks of it.

1522

The Pope loses 92 ducats and Sierra Nevada to Spain. Only Ireland remains in the Papal "Empire".

A white peace was signed between the Pope (Genoa) and Lorraine.

April 12
Savoy, smarting after that beating we gave to their army, sends their navy to try an amphibious assault on Naples, but they were intercepted in the Bay of Naples by the Spanish Armada! Ha! Take that, Savoy!

1523
May 22
The Ottomans routs the Venetians and siege Kosovo. I fear the infidels may expand.

August 1
A rush of merchants allows us to expand trade in Genoa and Venice. Our economy is weak, though, and it costs so much just to send merchants. How I wish we had a balanced budget that wasn't giving way to high inflation...

October 3
The war is finally over. Spain pays 250 ducats to Savoy for peace... what? But they did well in the sea. I guess it was their land troops again. As to who won the war in general, France gained a lot, and the small states only paid in indemnities for peace. Thankfully, the Pope's money has helped us, and we captured Rome, so we should be proud of our achievements here.

1524
January 1
Looks like the so-called "Reformation" has claimed its first victim. Wurtemburg has converted to Protestant. We are not happy with this development.

February 8
Our alliance (Poland, Spain, Milan, Scotland, The Palatinat) declare war on the Teutonic Order, along with Prussia. I do not expect any threat from them.

March 10
The Spaniards declare war on the Incas. I wonder if they'll be able to finish them off as they did the... Aztecs, was it?

April 2
Prussia falls under the white eagle of Poland. They were no match.

June 29
The Teutonic Order siege Welika, while the Poles siege the capital of Livania. Hmm, I wonder which side has the advantage?

September 1
The Teutonic Order pays 163 ducats to Poland for peace. So much for that war. Meanwhile, Turkey recaptures Kosovo.

January 1
More signs of heretics. Hessen and Hannover go Protestant. The Pope is angry at this development, and so are the people running our Republic.

May 1
A white peace was signed between the Pope and Milan. I guess the 'war' was still going on.

October 2
The Republic of Naples appoint Vercelli as our head Minister. Vercelli is one of the most dynamic leaders we ever had, and this was reflected in our 'monarch' values.

ScreenSave9.gif

I am impressed at what one man can do to help our country. All the more reason why I am not so fond of this 'Republic'. I mean, our Kings have more leadership than some of the people on our council. Ah well, I shall continue to serve Naples, under whatever system.

1526
January 1
Turkey invades Venetian territory! They are now laying siege on Bosnia.

January 12
Our alliance has declared war on England, who to our surprise, have friends! Portugal, and Courland join in on their side. I do not worry, though. The Spanish have naval supremacy.

January 16
Turkey gets only Bosnia from Venice in the peace treaty. What? Is Trabzon still under Venetian control? Those lucky Venetians.

ScreenSave20.gif

The Scots invade England. Is England actually going to survive this war?

February 15

Spain lays siege on Oporto in Portugal. Does Joao II honestly think he's going to win?

March 6
Scotland captures The Marches, but the English are closing in.

The Mameluks pay... Wallachia?... 68 ducats for peace. How pitiful.

November 2
Spain captures Oporto. Portugal doesn't stand a chance.

January 1
More heresy. The Hanseatic League and Thurigen convert to Protestant. Why must they do this? Don't they know the infidels will use this to divide and conquer?

1528
January 1
The Swiss convert to Protestant. France and Savoy won't like this.

October 11
Portugal loses Oporto and 128 ducats to Spain in the peace treaty. Hmm, something's not right here.

1529
January 1
The Palatinat convert to Protestant. Heresy in our alliance! May they be annexed by France or Spain! That'll teach them. Well, at least we banned them.

Febraury 12
Turkey gets Syria, Sinai and Nuyssaybin from the Mameluks in the peace treaty. Not good. Not good at all. A divided group of infidels is better than a group of Turks.

August 28
Our attention was so diverted to the wars going on, that we didn't even notice a massive Portugese Navy come in and land troops on Naples! We are under attack! (Thank you SOOOOOO much, Spain.) ... With a 2k Army. Well, nobody said the Portugese had a good Army.

October 1
We eliminated the Portuguese army to the last man! We are victorious, and against Portugal too. A white peace was signed with Courland. Silly German states.

ScreenSave10.gif

Does Portugal think that 2,000 of his men will destroy 22,000 of ours? Do they think they have magical wizards in their army?

November 4
England is still besieging The Marches, while Scotland attacks Munster. I make it a personal note not to get involved in a war of such grandeur.

January 1
Sweden converts to Protestantism... I protest their protest!

May 23
Scotland captures Munster, and their Army wipes the floor with the British at Lothian.

July 4
What are the artisans so picky about? They pull out half of my cash in infrastructure and spend it on some kooky art project nobody cares about. I hate art...

July 20
The Scots now march back to The Marches and begin their siege.

October 3
The Portuguese are bringing in their armies again for another invasion. I take some money in the treasury and spend it on recruiting more men in Naples.

1531
January 1
The English convert to Protestantism. During the middle of a war? Are they flippin' nuts? Stupid heretics!

January 24
Another 2k Portuguese Army invades Naples! We have 21k on hand, and the 'reinforcements' are still on the way.

January 27
We eliminate the Portuguese Army quite easily. Nobody ever said they were good. I feel like taunting Joao III somewhat.

January 30
I spoke too soon! A 5k army invades this time.

February 2
But the Portuguese don't know what hit 'em! Our reinforcements have arrived! It was no sooner that we throw the Portuguese back into the sea! Victory once more!

ScreenSave11.gif

Portugal invades again, but the fresh troops get some experience in kicking some 'major' butt!

March 14
The Portuguese are persistent unlike the Spaniards, I'll give them that. They attack again with a 3k army.

March 18
The Portuguese are eliminated again. Meanwhile, Scotland is besieging Yorkshire, while English rebels are besieging Bristol. I almost pity Henry VIII... if he weren't such a heretic schmooze.

August 24
The Russians with Denmark and Pskov declare war on the Golden Horde. The Russians seem to be expanding ever since 1492. I wonder if we should worry...

November 8-11
The Portuguese invade once more with a 2k army. Does think of us as a small colony? How insulting! Nonetheless, we shall teach them again and again.

December 2
Scotland wins its war with England, taking Munster and The Marches in the peace treaty. Now only the Portugese are in our way. Yet we can't take the battle to them. We only hope Portugal would stop invading us with dinky armies!

1532
January 1
Tuscany and Savoy agree to a White Peace. I didn't realize there was a war.

March 13
Okay, follow me on here. The infidel Algiers, along with Tripoli, the Turks, and Crimea declare war on Morocco. Who's gonna win?

March 18-April 1
A 5k Portugal army attacks again, but it routed. What wusses.

June 5
About that thing a while back? I take it back. Morocco WON, getting 18 puny ducats in return from Algiers.

October 29-November 11
A 5k and a 3k Portuguese army were again quickly disposed of. What losers! And not a dent to our army! I wish we only had a navy to invade Portugal...

ScreenSave12.gif

Here's a message I've come to know and... hate.

December 14
The Golden Horde lose 250 chickens, Bogutjar, and Kujbyschew to the Russian bear in the peace treaty. Those Russians really are hungry, aren't they?

1533
February 17
The Persians, along with the Mameluks and the VENETIANS(?) declare war on Iraq. I am perplexed that Venice would stoop so low to ally with the infidels. Maybe its to deter the Turks from expansion.

May 3-7
Another 2k Portuguese army routed by us at Naples. Maybe the Portuguese should just accept peace so they wouldn't lose their sons and brothers in such a war.

October 3
On the domestic front, our Harvest is doing extremely well, and our tax revenue is doubled for a while. I should go to the Napoli market and buy some wheat for a dish.

October 10-11
A man named Castelo Branco cursed at our walls as he charged at us with his 2k army. We quickly disposed of him, though. The poor sap.

November 2-3
The Portuguese attack again with 2k, and we eliminated them again. Yaddi yaddi yadda. Will they PLEASE stop invading?

1534
June 23
The Iraqis pay 45 in useless money to Persia for peace.

March 4-5, June 4-10, August 18-24
The Portuguese throw 3k armies at Naples, only to have them all eliminated. We ask for peace, but they do not accept.

August 29
We urge Scotland to pursue the matter and stop Portugal. The Scots invade Portugal and start attacking, thus giving Portugal no choice but to sue for peace. (And losing 250 ducats in the process to Scotland.) This was an alliance peace. Therefore the Scots did what we couldn't do, and that is to stop them from invading! And none too soon, since a 9k army was on the way. We send a Letter of Introduction to Scotland in thanks. In other news, the British rebellion was finally crushed. Too bad, I heard it was a Catholic rebellion.

1535
February 26
The Turks, along with Tripoli, Algiers, Wallachia, and Crimea declare war on the Mameluks and Venice... I guess this alliance isn't as grand as I thought.

Until then,
