Chapter 7: The Unwanted War
the Duchy of Athens had been greatly weakend by the war with Trezbizond and its main army has been near destroyed. But now that the Byzn Empire declared war agianst the Athenian Empire it looked like the time of peace for Athens will be short lived.
The athenian home army was created in the mountains of albania when Byzn attacked Hellas. An army of 9,000 was unable to hold back the great Byzn army of 30,000 and was forced to retreat. An Antonio decided that his Empire was doomed and was ready to surrender. But before Antonio could issue the surrender a group of fanatical Nationalists attacked the main palace and captured Antonio. The Nationalist leader Nerio II was installed to lead the Athenian army.
He recruited 10,000 troops in Albania and the rest of the Empire and then sent them on to Hellas to break the seige. The army gave a vallient effort but lost 5,000 troops and was sent to retreat back to Albania. There 2 mercenary companies were bought and the total army was now 24,000 strong.
Nerio now looked to wait the seige out and let attrition take its tole. After 1 year of waiting Hellas fell to Byzn but their army was now down to 15,000.
Nerio at the head of the army ordered the march to drive them out and recapture Athens.

Personal Records of Nerio II
Day 1
We marched for 2 months through the high mountains of Albania and arrived at the PLains of Hellas. We made a samp at the foot of the highest mountain and prepared for battle.
Our army was 18,000 infantry and 6,000 calvary
WE could see the camps of the Byzn armies as smoke rose up in the night sky. It looked as if thousands of towers had been erected.
Day 2
WE woke up this morning to find that the Byzn army had moved to the higlands. I sent 1,000 of out calvary to slow them down while our army made a hasty march towards the Enemy.
We arrived within 1,000 yrads of our Byzn enemies and we formed a line of skirmishers at the fron and behind we had two Infantry lines protected by archers in the back and Calvary at the side to protect the Flank.
The Byzn time Spearmen attacked our left flank, but our Calvary repulsed this attack dealing the Byzn army stagering loses.
They began to march everything they had into our center hoping to break our lines, but by the time their infantry reached the lines they took 50% casulaties form the skirmishers flying spears. Our Infantry the killed the rest and let only 20% retreat
The Byzn army did even use their calvary after their failed attack on our center they began to retreat.

The Byzn army retreated to Moria and Nerio II took over Athens once again. A grand celebration was held in the city as Neriio was proclaimed the New king of Athens.
Nerio would never lead another attack in his life.
The athenian army then marched on Moria and the Byzn army was forced to surrender
The remaining batltes were small and Byzn was never able to mount a resistance again.
Byzn in the end was forced to surrender Moria
