AAR-TFH-GER1936-VH: the more longer unic battle i ever did...

firslty, a big though to all french people.
live must continue but its a sad day, really...

about the game,
...i guess i am good for the GuinessBook !
i play Germany in VH, i started in 1936 and i am in march1947 actually with all europe & all africa under control. (etc... long to explain)
about this event, i conquered the Greenland "Godthab" province, just now, after the more longer battle i ever did:
from 13th january 1947 at 3h00 to 19th march 1947 at 9h00 ! (so, approximatly 65 days and 6 hours ! )
WITHOUT ANY BREAK, i mean !
...just a -never stopping- battle to prevail and conquer Godthab.

my offensive effectivness was about 0.70% value... lol (quite more progressivly during last 15 days)
i invaded them with a Corps HQ + 4 Marines divisions (four times 5 regiment's divisions: 2x MAR + 1x INF + 1x ART + 1x ENG in each)
there was only 1 US INF division (4 regiments) defending it...

impossible to support them with any of my TACTs or other airplanes, range was clearly too short,
and no CVs (or aeronaval squadrons with) in my navy to support from air by sea... (i have no Kriegsmarine, or really few... i never invested in. i invested massivly in Luftwaffe, and on NAVs concerning naval warfares, its really more effective and intresting economicly)

during that period i were, of course, really affraid to be intercepted by the USN and some serious heavy TFs from (BCs, BBs or CVs in, etc).
but i get lucky from start to end and only been threaten by the CAN navy (only some small fleets with 1 to 3 DDs inside + 1 or 2 CLs sometimes... nothing serious).
during these 9 weeks of battle, there was (approx) 6to8 naval battles with CAN navy.
i won all of them, except last late battle with my Coast-Guard small fleet (grouping 2 obsolete ships inside: 1x DD lvl2 and 1x CL lvl2 "Emden")...
i used those both ships on some sea provinces forward to see what was coming on me (under south shores of Greenland where i was landed), etc...
during this last battle, i lost the DD lvl2 (and lost the fight too) but its a detail, not important.
except that, i won all the other naval battles and i also sunk 2x CAN DDs in 2 of the 6 or 7 other navy battles won against CAN, linked with this conquest and the "Greenland invasion purpose", etc...
USA never participated to naval combats to defend her Greenland colony (wich was a big mystake from AI: i only had 2 Cruisers lvl3, 1 CLs lvl4 and 4 CLs lvl3 in my main fleet defending the invasion fleet of Godthab...)

Greenland were taken as colony by USA after DEN fall in may1943 (as Iceland were taken too, there).
i conquered back Iceland in july1946 after british islands fall (Ireland included), etc...

about the ground battle in Godthab, there were few losses, of course (small army concerned on both sides: look screenies for details).

but the intrest was about time i took to end that battle: 65 days !
i am curious to know, does anyone else already had such longer land battle and remember it ?

about purposes in my campaign, my reward is intresting:
1st, all the 4 generals commanding the 4 Marines divisions who did the job get 3 new commanding specialities (winter specialist + fortresses breaker + panzer leader) and approx 1.5 or 2 skill levels more, each.
2nd, i have a new FOB (advanced base) near CAN to send my Nuclear ICBMs through USA mainland (soon as they are ready: some 18to24 months more to have them as i planned it, etc... but its an other far more longer subject to explain )...
and 3rd, i build 8 new airbases on Godthab now, there wasnt (but it will take time to end them).
so, it will also become a FOB for my Luftwaffe operations in North Atlantic, etc...

but the point 2 about ICBM FOB is clearly the major purpose i aimed to do it !
and thats a good thing done (y)

do not hesitate to ask me if u have questions and to give me details if u also had some very long battles, i am curious to see...
i put screenshots about including 3or4 concerning different stages of that battle of 65 days...
it was really really long ! lol
(and i play with fullmicromanagement,very slowly, etc. so, enough longer to stress coz it was slow)

but it was fun, i am glad i could ended it and start my conquest of Greenland, now... (y)

wow. that's incredible. I too had a long battle some time ago. I was Germany on VH on Black Ice against France. I basically had 15 divisions, 7 in each province that would rotate once the other 7 got wasted in the battle, in this way, I always had 7 divisions ready to fight and 7 resting. Well, to cut it short, I fought this battle right outside of Paris for almost 12 months without stopping. One single battle!

I lost in the end after their tanks overwhelmed me but it still felt cool to put such determined resistance. Field Marshal Model would have been proud

u play slowly with full micromanagement or u try to move forward quite hurry ?
i mean, i guess i could never have patience (as i play, very slowly... hour by hour all time or close !) to wait 12 months before resign and try to find an other way... lol

and do u have a screenshot or details about both losses from that battle ? 12 months of losses with ARM forces concerned, it should be intresting to see...

we should create a thread about all players best screenshots concerning more bigger losses and/or more bigger battles with more bigger armies concerned, etc...
and same about air bombing (and best losses on the ground, there, for the ennemies), etc...
it should be intresting to see...

and agree about Model, he was trully effective in his job.
...may quite a bit "mishonest" and "not concerned" by issues in other german army groups, lol
(where he stole troops/supplies, by his own authority/influence, when he could, to safe his own forces and accomplish his job without care about impacts there, etc...)
but no doubt he did great job and succeed to save the day -more of one time- on the eastern front in 1944 and 1945 retreats, thats clear... (y)
