Anything for a pal.

Seriously, I'm running a Crete game right now (Krete in 1337 has a ridiculous amount of potential- I'm busy, SOMEONE needs to AAR it...). Became King of Cyprus, and took over the Aegean and pretty much the entire Anatolian peninsula. The map's solid Demense (ahh, the joys of being a 14th century king with 10 prestige- 26 provinces, no penalty!) with a small island of crappy one-province Archbishoprics in the very center. I think 6 of them- I just collected a ducal title from the Aegean, and voila, one-province Archbishopric of the Aegean Islands over in Edessa... My piety's hovering around 2,000 with a 24 year old king.

Next on the list: I'm going to make the Kingdom of Jerusalem and then: The Cardinalcy (?) of Jerusalem.

Then I'm going to cheat a bit and manually make my king a saint after he dies, because I DESERVE IT.

That sort of arrogance deserves an AAR. ;) Once I figure out where I'm going to college, I'll write one. :p

My primary problem with the negative piety is that taking land from the infidels counts for nothing. In fact, since it increases my land, it actually hurts my piety to go on a successful crusade.

I'm actually better off sitting on my butt and ignoring the crusades completely. That can't be right.

I don't know how the *game* handles it, but in real life it's still an "Archbishopric" (Archdiocese), as any Archbishop elevated to a Cardinal is still the archbishop of his dioceses.

I second the vote for an AAR :D

Well, I´ve actually changed my mind. The people whining about the crusade are just playing the game badly (including myself :D )

If you conquor pagans and they convert, create the odd bisphoric here and there, you can gain more piety that you`re ever likely to loose as a result of crusade excpectations. Oh, and avoid having a huge demesne penalty!

"However, making a bishopric an ARCHbishopric will gain you, in technical terms, "tons" of piety.

And if you have a spare kingship lying around, it's almost worth it to make someone a cardinal, because all of a sudden your piety problems are instantly over."

This I don`t get at all!!!

In my experience:

1. Creating a bisphoric seem to generate plenty of piety.

2. Elevating a bishop to archbishop does NOT generate extra piety.

3. Granting an archbishop a "surplus" kingship does NOT generate piety, and actually causes him to become independant, taking all his lands with him, because he is now no longer a vassal but an equal. He will remain an archbishop, never seen a cardinal. :(

I know what you mean

Currently playing the Duchy of Friesland. Piety is at -139 and sliding at -5 per month. Did create a number of bishoprics but that wasn't enough.

Due to circumstances ( :p ) my reputation is 'tarnished', which leaves my vassals teetering on the edge of betrayal. Going on a crusade it's all I can do to prevent mass rebelling and the liberation of muslim lands doesn't generate enough to offset that risk.

Really stuck between a rock and a hard place...

BTW, my erstwhile Liege called for a crusade and managed to lose his entire demesne to the muslims. Why is it that when I declare war my prestige as well as my reputation take a hit? Would that be because the lands are still christian?
