^^^: Some explanations for Victoria 1's system:
1. Dead / crippled soldier isn't in soldier business anymore, nor does his family provide any soldiers.
2. Dead / crippled soldier cannot support his family and just disappear for simplicity's sake.

I honestly doubt there was anywhere near 100% fatality rate among war orphans and widows. Besides, don't we have war exhaustion to represent the civilian hardships already.

If we are going for simplicity, I'd rather have young lads that just happened to be looking up to a life in their respective nations colours than have 36.000 only partially related people snuff it because a division was encircled during a punitive expedition to Mexico.

maybe that limit based on the state's population would make more sense.

In some way it would, but that'd just mean that you can have as many factories as you want, more or less? I.e. if you have few POPs, why would you want many factories; when you have many, you get many factories - not much of a limitation.

Perhaps a better wording would be: Population and Workforce? So you can show the population with the workforce in the tooltip, or the other way around. Saying: Population 1'000'000 (tooltip: Actual population 4'000'000) seems a lot more confusing that Workforce: 1'000'000 (Population: 4'000'000). This would also open up for techs and laws raising or lowering the workforce (ie. pension age lowers it, no child labour lowers it, while better medicine and womens emancipation raises it).

+1
Great idea

It would also be useful if reforms effected Population and Workforce separately.
Healthcare Reforms would directly increase Population growth, leading to an indirect increase the size of the Workforce
Whereas, Workplace Safety Reforms would directly increase the size of the Workforce (or at lease decrease its rate of decay) but have no effect on Population

I always felt silly in vicky to convert 50K pop group into capitalists. It felt unnatural, by sheer nature capitalists should be 0.1-1% of the population - tops.
I think % wise from middle class/aristocratic pop would actually make more sense.

That is still somewhat wrong answer. The percent is just the bonus they give.

So now you want to change the 1 POP = 4 population mechanic?

So now you want to change the 1 POP = 4 population mechanic?

This may actually be quite good idea.

POP = 1 man, 1 woman, 2 children

So when you have farmers you can say that workforce= population.

When you have labourers or crafstmen workforce = 3/4 population (no women in mines)

When you have soldiers, clergy, clerks or officers workforce = 1/4 population since only grown men do these jobs.

When you ban child labour all craftsman workforce gets halved labourers now give only 1/3 and others are not affected.

With emancipation of women all craftsmen and later clerks workforce could double.

That is assuming that one child = one adult, which should probalby be changed to both children = one adult and that would also change the ratios. But it may be good idea for future expansion...

EDIT: And when we're at it, we could add fifth person so the "new POP" would be 1 adult male, 1 adult female, 2 children and 1 unspecified elderly. This could also lead to working elderly when there are no pension reforms. Something like 1 elderly = 0,5 workforce.

Ok, it's official this thread has jumped the rails. We are now off topic.

Please discuss this in another thread. People might actually want to read a thread about the Mini AAR and won't want to wade through 3-4 pages of insistent demands for a minor change that isn't relevant to understanding Vicky II's gameplay.
