Yay; so much gained and not an inch given away! I like the solution in Japan; it helps signify the portions of the AOG military, resources, and production coming from Japan, while modeling them as purely autonomous within an internal structure. Hppefully it works at all within the structure. Nice work on world building!

&&before, I would've seen the Atlantic Treaty being torn apart in what to do in the event of a Third Weltkrieg; I pictured the North Americans+Australasians being more Anti-Internationale and the Mediterranean bloc (France, Italy, Balkan Union, &&Iberians) being more oriented against the Berlin Pact. In the event of a war they may have split over wargoals; now, though, it seems Ottawa and Sacramento are pretty mad about Japan... this bodes ill for Germany.

@IconOfEvi I'm actually cleaning the gfx files of those, so at least flags will soon look much better and more unified.

@RyuDrago Thanks, I'm really glad you liked the Japanese setup, I was afraid it would come out as a bit too confused/archaic but somehow even I started to fall in love with it.

@Dofon The really scary thing is a question of what would happen if Internationale and Atlantic Treaty actually stop being concerned about each other. Fortunately, FAR-GC actions in Latin America is biggest issue for both. But as for the rest, modern Canada isn't really the last bastion of British exiles anymore and liberating British Isles from UoB is not really giving Canadian PM too much grey hair.

Thanks for comments, everyone!

2016
President-General Teufel could feel how his power has been constantly on the rise, and that not only at home. Sure, the Red neighbourhood was menacing but he was the one controlling core China and more. He was the man who conquered Japan for Kaiserreich and he was nothing less than a viceroy of sclerotik Metropolis that has overgrown its supposed boundaries long time ago in spite of fact that his rank in Berlin is still being equated to one of Governor-General and his massive army still being seen as colonial reserve force. But that forsaken colonial company the strength of which still didn't fully open eyes of confused elites in Berlin now possessed its own colonies under weak excuse of exercising direct control over those lands in the name of beloved Kaiser. Neo-feudalized Japan, protectorates of Indochina and insular ''General Captaincies'' were obviously still not big enough warning not to mess with AOG. Of course Teufel didn't want to cause real panic in Berlin, but from time to time, Europe had to be reminded of the real value of German East Asia. And Teufel had damn good excuse to turn his eyes towards unfaithful Batavia and its negligent masters in Amsterdam. Berlin and the rest of allied capitals had to be reminded that AOG won't tolerate the third attempt of East Indies neutrality in the middle of a big war.

east%20indies_zpspn0rjbg0.png

The Nationalists (now once again directly supervised by the former chief of AOG air forces Voigt who has now returned to Reichstag politics) have now established themselves as Teufel's long arm in Metropolis, opening discusions about East Asian policies, proposing solutions in parliamentary proces and overral trying to influence German politics in accordance to their own and also AOG agenda that practically turned into unified political program that could be summed as ''New World Policy/Seeking the better place under the sun/The program for Greater German Kaiserreich and Greater German East Asia''. Voigt who now enjoyed the status of retired air marshal (even if Berlin disliked it, the old system of the recognition of colonial military ranks was still in place and every man who was made Field Marshal by Teufel as legal Governor General of AOG was now the field marshal of all Imperial Forces, be it core imperial military or protection forces of imperial dependencies) has even modified old Weltpolitik motto into more fitting one: '' We demand our own place in the sun and we don't care if we throw others into the shade''. The general reception to those proposals was good as population still felt effects of economic crisis which were accompanied by the feelings of Germany itself getting weaker in relation to other powers. It also didn't help that AOG which was increasingly perceived as German twin brother in Asia was doing much better than Metropolis with all those victories, even if they were won in the name of the Kaiser who was drinking tea with his numerous monarchical relatives in Berlin, toiling in the service of ''silent diplomacy'' instead of helping to rally the people around the holy flag or some higher cause. The era of Realpolitik was slowly but surely coming to an end.

diktat_zpsln36ghxd.png

Teufel had raised the stakes and directly pressed on Berlin with demands for transfer of ''guardianship'' over Dutch East Indies due to inability of both Amsterdam and its local colonial goverment in Batavia to participate in efficient regional defence. Experience from last two wars was underlined and special blame was put on Dutch for Singapore almost falling to Royal Thai Army due to lack of friendly troops in area. Pro-AOG ''fifth column'' in East Indies, gathered around ethnic Chinese (who were either inspired by restored greatness of German China or just enjoyed good commercial connections with Triads) and AOG-friendly ''private security contractors'' of Afrikaner origin who were supposed to support Royal Netherlands East Indies Army and local colonial police but have infiltrated Indo-Dutch circles and established strong pro-Nanjing lobby in security services. Teufel just mounted pressure on Metropolis trough diplomatic channels and his NPD allies in Reichstag itself, eventually forcing Berlin to address this issue. Kaiser's goverment was more fond of friendly mediation that could achieve best compromise with mild consequences, but Teufel insisted on legally binding arbitration. However, AOG signals to Berlin that featured not really discreet messages in style of ''we can't refrain from unilateral actions in defence of our strategic interests'' alias '' we can take what we want by ourselves anyway'', or even comparative statements based on ''pick between East Asian Leviathan or tiny Netherlands'' options forced Berlin to make a decision in AOG favor what turned what was supposed to be fair arbitration into mere ''Berlin Diktat''. Teufel's ''All or Nothing'' Doctrine has arrived to Europe.

diktat1_zpsxfwvykjr.png

Consequences were much broader than one could imagine. Dutch who already prepared their forces in East Indies for the case of potential unilateral hostilities could not resist the power of ''German betrayal'' and caved in to what could be easily perceived as de facto ultimatum. AOG tried to prevent Berlin from totally losing face in order not to cause entire alliance to implode but Dutch confidence into Berlin Pact was shattered in face of Berlin-Nanjing offer of ''generous repayment for Netherlands' trouble with territorial transfer''. Massive popular protests that erupted in all parts of the United Netherlands forced Dutch goverment to reject (quite substantial) financial payment from German and AOG budgets due to broad perception of those funds as ''dirty money'' offered as a shameful bribe.

diktat2_zpsnehv9ksl.png

Instead, United Kingdom of the Netherlands who was deeply integrated in German bloc ever since intervention in collapsing Flanders-Wallonia that was performed by Dutch and royalist French armies with Berlin giving the green-light in exchange for more concessions in French puppet state and increased Dutch cooperation with Germany that soon evolved into full membership in German alliance was now forced to make a decisive cut to calm down massive anti-German sentiments. There was even an increased threat of Syndicalist underground using hot emotions to start anti-goverment uprising what would practically send an invitation to German or British forces to intervene in chaotic country and put it under their control.

ScreenSave4_zpsrky0bevu.png

Netherlands could thus do nothing less but to announce withdrawal from the Berlin Pact, proclaiming the status of strict neutrality and mobilize all forces to consolidate the country against potential foreign meddling and internal instability. Queen Beatrix decided to rally the people around her heir, announcing her abdication in favor of crown prince Willem-Alexander who was soon crowned as new King of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands. Parliament was also required to send the sign that Dutch democracy and national unity are not jeopardized. Unity goverment was formed under the leadership of Navy admiral Klaver, a former Governor-General of East Indies whose previous status and military background were strong enough guarantees to people that royal goverment will not forget this humiliation. Unity goverment was supported by all major Dutch parties (liberals, conservatives and social democrats with inclusion of their Flemish subsidiaries in fully integrated post-unification Flanders) and state of emergency was declared for time being until internal and foreign situation becomes more stable. Top brass in military was refreshed in order to break contiunity with Berlin Pact structures and Royal Military Constabulary was ordered to maintain heavy presence in the streets in order to ensure peace and order in cooperation with the national police.

netherlander_zpszqekfd6l.png

Rob_Verkerk_C-ZSK.jpg
The commander of Netherlands Marine Corps major general Rob Verkerk played the decisive role in coordinating defence of non-Indonesian Dutch military assets in East Indies that were unlawfully claimed by AOG under excuse of being de facto part of Netherlands East Indies Army the control of which had to be transfered to new entity in accordance to tribunal ruling. Dutch marines and Royal Netherlands Army special forces in region managed to protect the Royal Netherlands Navy ships in Indonesian ports that EAA maritime forces have put under blockade. However, Dutch troops refused to surrender the vessels to AOG collaborators and after some mutual threats with use of armed force, pro-Company forces have backed down and EAA fleet ended the blockade, allowing evacuation of Netherlands military personnel and equipment. The commander Verkerk was later promoted to the rank of lieutenant general and to post of the chief of entire Royal Netherlands Navy.

1024px-Koning_Willem-Alexander_slaat_Gijs_Tuinman_tot_ridder_2.jpg
Special forces major being knighted by the King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands. Several more participants that took part in defence of national interests in Dutch East Indies during recent crisis received knighthood as a sign of national gratitude for their distinguished service during what was dubbed as ''the great AOG-provoked injustice''.

What was supposed to be born out of the ashes of defunct Dutch East Indies was what many dubbed as ''Sister Company of AOG''. At least formally, German East Indies Company (under original name Deutsche Ostindien-Kompanie alias DOK) was not a subsidiary of General East Asian Company but was like its big sister the chartered company founded by German Empire. This way, Berlin got at least slight relief from the grief caused by the break with Netherlands and German people could rejoice in the sight of almost forgotten imperial expansion.

ScreenSave15_zpssjypdz5c.png

But there is more than meets the eye. The insignia of new company was not meant to resemble one of AOG but was following generic models of German presence in Asia-Pacific region (the origin of all after all lied in the old colonial symbols of German New Guinea). In spite of that, there was much more AOG influence in this ''baby AOG''. Bulk of invested capital came from AOG and mainland Chinese groups were thus getting free hands in picking directors for the main and executive boards. The rest remained pretty much the same with some cosmetic (and some more substantial) changes. Federated elected/nominated assembly of Dutch East Provinces which served as legislative institution in relation to executive power of Dutch Governor-General was disbanded (and so were provincial assemblies) and replaced by sole executive office of Governor-General with ability to appoint provincial governors at his own discretion. Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Chinese: Tjung Ban Hok), the governor of Batavia of Chinese origin, was appointed new Governor-General of East Indies to supervise the general administration and act as nominal commander-in-chief of DOK Schutztruppe. The Protection Force was crafted out of the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army that switched the allegiance after the extensive pressure of AOG-affiliated military contractors lead by Afrikaner mercenary Vincent van der Meer who even managed to impose himself as imperial Resident Minister who was supposed to represent interests of Berlin, just to act as shadow authority behind the figurehead governor-general what allowed Teufel to establish direct communication with sole decision-maker without which nothing important could happen in the company.

ScreenSave17_zpsrhg5qzxc.png

While the Dutch had managed to evacuate their own forces from Indonesia and thus save their equipment that would be subject to confiscation under excuse of Amsterdam-commanded units being attached to East Indies army as its de facto component, AOG could still collect quite an impressive bounty even after the failed standoff with with elite expeditionary units of Netherlands armed forces. With royal navy taking away Dutch colonial goverment, marines and commandos, the new Company could still inherit the rest of administration, defunct East Indies Army and colonial police forces. Administration was modified to fit new colonial-corporate hybrid style with much less democratic representation while the army of old Dutch general governorate was renamed into Schutztruppe/Protection Force. Due to civilian background of new Governor-General (and due to his relatively weak position in face of being quite popular and well-intentioned candidate who was evaluated to highest position due to compromise between the big players), Protection Force featured its own general staff which was also needed for the sake of coordination between specialized branches of old Dutch colonial army. Apart from the main ground force, Schutztruppe also kept Royal Netherlands East Indies Army Air Force intact as military aviation corps of old-new colonial force. Altough Royal Netherlands Navy used to be constantly present in the region before this transfer, colonial army also featured its own coast guard that was developed from colonial goverment navy (Gouvernementsmarine) and retained its role in new enviroment. The old Dutch colonial field police (Veldpolitie) also continued to exist under the new name of Polizeitruppe (Police Force). In relation to all those security forces, AOG-friendly contractors continued to operate by either being fully integrated in new forces and administration or staying on freelance path as hired guns.

So, wait, what!? Teufel has enough pull in Berlin to completely screw over Berlin's neighbor-slash-brother people!?
Between the AOG and the empire proper, who's really in charge in this arrangement!?

One could say that finally Teufel has made a mistake. Berlin should begin to wonder what is happening in Asia that has costed a loyal ally in Europe.

Damn shame what happened to the Dutch, but Teufel's will is not to be denied. Funny how they're now drastically militaristic. Hopefully won't cause problems down the road. Also, finding It hilarious who you put in charge now and then. Triads in AOG, and now DOK gets heavy Afrikaner mercenary influence lulz. I wonder if we'll see some of the big names show up? I know a lot are working for CAE, but maybe a few of the famous come around? Knowing your Hind fleet, Neal Ellis is probably with you though.

I don't understand why all this blame over Teufel... Remember at the start of the chapter, he called Germany a sklerotized motherland.

You have all to understand Teufel is the de facto leader of China and his fortunes will stand by ruling China, not Germany. Why does he care if the Netherlands left Mitteleuropa if the AOG reigns over Indonesia?

I think Teufel realized Germany is in decadence. Berlin is just useful to force the Russians in a two front war and nothing more. Plus what makes Germany weaker, makes the AOG stronger.

Also... The Reich could have stopped Teufel. The Kaiser could in every moment - Teufel is a German soldier, he gave an oath of loyalty to the Emperor... But nobody in Berlin even raised a thing. Germany is too corrupted, sold to AOG money and attached to the Chinese breast economically...

Hmmm if I am the devil I will make a contigency plan with the Tigress in case Germany will fall, to keep alive the AOG in other forms...

I keep expecting Teufel to do what that one Mongol leader did and declare himself Emperor of China or something. Either that or The Tigress kills him/usurps him and makes herself Empress or military dictator or something like that.

@RyuDrago Teufel's agenda is really misterious, nobody really knows if he's doing this for mere personal gain (lust for wealth and power), to create his own empire in China or to actually help the Germany which is still the land of his ancestors? Who might he be, a corrupt colonial kleptocrat without any higher ideals, the separatist Criollo of German heritage in China (who might even dream of becoming new Chinese Emperor), or a Pied-Noir with greater loyalty to Fatherland than his counterparts in Metropolis would ever be? As for happy marriage, the only problem with this plan might be that her eventual jealousy might actually turn into something even more dangerous than mere rivalry!

@Kaiser_Mobius Don't give her any funny ideas!

@der Kriegsherr @Razgriz 2K9 If things will continue to evolve this way, Teufel will soon be Governor-General of German East Asia and Chancellor of German Empire in one person.

@Bergioyn At least he didn't betray Finland yet. ;)

@Kurt_Steiner But is there a living man powerful enough to stop Teufel at this stage? Or a woman? Who knows.

@IconOfEvi Neal Ellis is still in charge of training SuperHind pilots, yes. Maybe he even flies into combat together with his trainees from time to time. But he'll surely be rewarded for his help in future if possible. After all, all those South African military expats exiled by Syndicalist goverment might want to see happy retirement in their old homeland one day, that's the least AOG and CAE can do in exchange for their service.

@RyuDrago (2nd reply about the usefulness of Germany for Teufel) It's a question what is a real worth of Metropolis for Teufel emotionally as well. Is he really so careless about it, or is he just a good gambler hoping to preserve what he loves and get much more in exchange for his risk? If Teufel will press to hard, he won't be only able to use Germany as distration for Russia but will actually force Germany into two-front war if he pisses off neo-Entente too much. If Reds and Western liberals forget about their squabbles and decide to crush Germany once and for all, then this will happen to poor old Fatherland:

Operation Just Cause, Internal Memo of Canadian War Ministry
No. [confidential]

In the final months of 2015, the situation in South America continued to escalate sharply. Armed Forces of Gran Colombia were unable to hold the city of Maracaibo and had to succumb to siege of superior FAR-GC armies in spite of substantial Canadian air support. Maritime traffic in area was greatly reduced and the subsequent fall of Dutch-ruled Leeward Antilles at the coast of Venezuela to pirate raiders, local bandits and extremist insurgents afiliated with FAR-GC and Tortuga Republic only increased the regional lawlesnes. Needless to say, the entire Maracaibo Basin was knocked out of action due to those events what effected global oil prices as well and also hit the budget of besieged Gran Colombia. Caracas continued to remain the sole remaining fort of Gran Colombia loyalists and FAR-GC had imposed brutal siege on the last constitutive capital of shattered federal structures of which the armed forces were the last real surviving institution.

FARGC_zpsfusezmpj.png

Prospects for Canadian-supported goverment thus remained grim and even generous Canadian support couldn't guarantee long-term survival of Caracas goverment represented by desperate military junta. Canadian goverment could eventually even accept facts on the ground in case of the fall of Caracas and subsequent declaration of FAR-GC project of the Revolutionary Republic of Gran Colombia the containment of which would then become a top strategic priority without the need to engage in expensive jungle war. However, recent victories had encouraged FAR-GC to an extent that made their commanders brave enough to cross the red line: There was no chance that Canada would leave anyone to pose a threat to Panama Canal itself.

panama%20FARGC_zpsqfli2jg4.png

FAR-GC obviously wanted to use what they perceived as Canadian ''weakness'' to make Canada lose its face and have the flame of revolution spread into Central America and even Mexico where FAR-GC could connect with other movements like Sandinista National Liberation Front, Guatemalan National Revolutionary Unity, Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front, Zapatista Army of National Liberation and others. But above all, even formation of Syndicalist Centroamerica of old days or return of revolutionary spirit to Mexico could be tolerated if Panama Canal could remain safe. But FAR-GC just had to do what Canada and NCR have always feared in their wildest nightmares. Not only that Syndicalist jungle rats have crossed the Darién Gap protected by the shadows of wild swamps and forests, reaching the outskirts of Panama City almost undetected, they even dared to attack the Panama City itself and called other resistance groups infesting United Provinces to rise and paralyze the national goverment. It didn't take long before Canadian and NCR bases surrounding Canal found themselves under heavy fire, the waterway connecting two oceans itself was closed. One of large ships passing the Canal in time of attack was even so badly damaged by FAR-GC attackers that it got stuck in the middle of the canal what practically clogged the waterway and damaged the passageway. Intelligence community issued the warning that FAR-GC advances into United Provinces were initiated without Soviet approval from what we could speculate that rebels have now gone fully rogue.

canada_zpszqct3ckz.png

His Majesty's goverment that was represented by newly sworn Liberal cabinet of Justin Trudeau held an emergency meeting about the ongoing situation. After the consultations with War Minister Sajjan and Canadian Armed Forces Chief of Staff Mobius, the Prime Minister Trudeau concluded that risks of potential confrontations with Internationale are minimal due to clear rogue status of FAR-GC, authorizing military operation of regional ad hoc coalition to repel the aggression of terrorist group. While there was no need to activate collective defence mechanism of Atlantic Treaty due to regional nature of this conflict, Canadian and allied forces were still justified to act in self-defense while the lawful goverment of United Provinces has issued the request for military assistance as well. Military leader Manuel Noriega found himself in such a distress after the fall of national capital to FAR-GC that he had even accepted Canadian request to relinquish civil powers to elected president whom Noriega used to control as puppet in order for United Provinces to enter legally binding agreement with Canada and North American allies. Disgraced Maximum Leader who used to be too soft on FAR-GC before (and was often even accused of tolerating their illegal commerce in exchange for peaceful coexistence and financial gains) was allowed to retain the position of the chief of Federal Defence Forces (their loyalty to Noriega was not to be toyed with) what granted him an oportunity to supervise military operations together with allied commanders.

ScreenSave14_zpsvtyoypjp.png

Operation Just Cause that was started in December of 2015 was spearheaded by Armed Forces of Canada and New California Republic Armed Forces, with shattered Federal Defence Forces of United Provinces (supported by Noriega's paramilitary Dignity Battalions, local security services and federal police forces) were being reorganized and prepared by North American advisors to be dispatched in support of expeditionary forces after their footholds are established.

Heavy urban fighting in Panama City: FAR-GC infiltrators fought for every house.

800px-Panama_clashes_1989_zpsxfbenmq0.jpeg
While Syndicalist invaders who have even declared ''provisional people's authority'' for Panama tried to get North American forces engaged in bloody quagmire from which they'd be forced to retreat in shame, the swift and decisive operation masterminded by Canadian and New Californian commanders destroyed their plans and flushed out the insurgents in brutal urban combat that had left big parts of city in ruins. FAR-GC was forced to retreat back into borderlands while federal security forces dealt with revolts in other provinces as well. Central America was saved.

800px-CF-18A_launches_LGB_Eglin_AFB_2006_zpsd76wckt6.jpg

Canadian CF-18A attacks retreating FAR-GC forces over Darién Gap with laser-guided bomb.

The extremist group suffered heavy loses during their adventure in Panama while panicked retreat from Central America costed them even more men and material thanks to Canadian air strikes. FAR-GC was forced back to South America and United Provinces were assisted with establishment of strong security perimeter in porous border between Central American federation and Gran Colombia. Operation Just Cause was successfully accomplished.

ScreenSave12_zpsuuvrrw7d.png

However, this was just a begining of much bigger story. FAR-GC proved it can bleed and what is bleeding can be killed as well. Brazil finally mustered its courage and agreed to long-planned contingency plan that was coordinated with its Canadian partners. President Venturini asked for authorization of rubber stamp parliament that ''permitted'' armed forces to launch extensive military operations in Gran Colombia and Guyanas. In order to legitimize military dictatorship in eyes of North American partners, Brazilian regime has tolerated the existance of sockpuppet parliament which together with occasional ''free and fair elections'' gave Brazilian generals free pass in North American capitals in the issues like trade deals, loands and military support that kept Brazil competive in relation to pro-German regional rivals in Buenos Aires and Syndicalist radicals at home and abroad.

1_zpsqjg37ujb.png

Apart from that, President's request for Brazilian forces to join the Canadian-lead regional coalition against FAR-GC was also granted and Brazil joined North American allies and United Provinces in their active support for Armed Forces of Gran Colombia. Operation Just Cause was extended into new, much larger mission that was known under the name Operation Colombian Freedom. Even such ad hoc coalition is certainly going to strengthen relations of all allied participans what might raise a few eyebrows among Berlin Pact members and especially in Buenos Aires. However, the elimination of such dangerous group justifies our actions and unintended diplomatic consequences should not be a primary concern in such delicate security situation.

*more than a single soldier sent to topple the enemy*
*sniffle* people just aren't the same between universes, are they? *teardrop*
(^^edit: Kaiser_Mobius' post below led me to learn that the video game Just Cause shares a name with an OTL military adventure in Latin America. Hmm)

I get the feeling the Tortuga Republic is secretly building an world-conquest army that would make the Alien Invaders uncomfortable

Finally, some good news for once! (Anything to do with Teufel is...ambiguous to put it lightly, as you already pointed out)
If it won't spoil too much, would you mind giving us some hints about other potential flashpoints, particularly ones which could turn into a Third Weltkrieg?

Go Entente! Our Dear Leader Trudeau will crush all of the FAR-GC's lackeys beneath his iron boot while he takes selfies of the action!:D

I also love those little edits you did with the map for Operation Just Cause, like the Border lines on North America, or the NCR Marines label. Very cool details!

Hopefully with Brazilian intervention into this war, Gran Colombia can be put back on its feet, although I fear that country will be a hotbed of insurgency for decades afterwards as the FAR-GC's troops start hiding and fighting amongst the jungles and countrysides. Better hope that whatever is left of Gran Colombia's army has lots of COIN experts....

Interesting that Gran Colombia is falling so hard. You think being united again, they'd be able to do a better job at this sort of thing. Still neat to watch things spiral out in that supposedly quiet part of the world.

And oh goddammit, Trudeau?! If only I could have been there with Teufel in Beijing. Well, if it's any consolation, Teufel was probably laughing his ass off on elections night, calling him a cuck with the rest of /pol/. Just remember - if you shoot at your enemies, they win.

As for happy marriage, the only problem with this plan might be that her eventual jealousy might actually turn into something even more dangerous than mere rivalry!

But @Asalto , everyone knows - yandere is love, yandere is life,
