@RyuDrago Teufel's agenda is really misterious, nobody really knows if he's doing this for mere personal gain (lust for wealth and power), to create his own empire in China or to actually help the Germany which is still the land of his ancestors? Who might he be, a corrupt colonial kleptocrat without any higher ideals, the separatist
Criollo of German heritage in China (who might even dream of becoming new Chinese Emperor), or a
Pied-Noir with greater loyalty to Fatherland than his counterparts in Metropolis would ever be? As for happy marriage, the only problem with this plan might be that her eventual jealousy might actually turn into something even more dangerous than mere rivalry!
@Kaiser_Mobius Don't give her any funny ideas!
@der Kriegsherr @Razgriz 2K9 If things will continue to evolve this way, Teufel will soon be Governor-General of German East Asia and Chancellor of German Empire in one person.
@Bergioyn At least he didn't betray Finland yet.
@Kurt_Steiner But is there a living man powerful enough to stop Teufel at this stage? Or a woman? Who knows.
@IconOfEvi Neal Ellis is still in charge of training SuperHind pilots, yes. Maybe he even flies into combat together with his trainees from time to time. But he'll surely be rewarded for his help in future if possible. After all, all those South African military expats exiled by Syndicalist goverment might want to see happy retirement in their old homeland one day, that's the least AOG and CAE can do in exchange for their service.
@RyuDrago (2nd reply about the usefulness of Germany for Teufel) It's a question what is a real worth of Metropolis for Teufel emotionally as well. Is he really so careless about it, or is he just a good gambler hoping to preserve what he loves and get much more in exchange for his risk? If Teufel will press to hard, he won't be only able to use Germany as distration for Russia but will actually force Germany into two-front war if he pisses off neo-Entente too much. If Reds and Western liberals forget about their squabbles and decide to crush Germany once and for all, then this will happen to poor old Fatherland:
Operation Just Cause, Internal Memo of Canadian War Ministry
No. [confidential]
In the final months of 2015, the situation in South America continued to escalate sharply. Armed Forces of Gran Colombia were unable to hold the city of Maracaibo and had to succumb to siege of superior FAR-GC armies in spite of substantial Canadian air support. Maritime traffic in area was greatly reduced and the subsequent fall of Dutch-ruled Leeward Antilles at the coast of Venezuela to pirate raiders, local bandits and extremist insurgents afiliated with FAR-GC and Tortuga Republic only increased the regional lawlesnes. Needless to say, the entire Maracaibo Basin was knocked out of action due to those events what effected global oil prices as well and also hit the budget of besieged Gran Colombia. Caracas continued to remain the sole remaining fort of Gran Colombia loyalists and FAR-GC had imposed brutal siege on the last constitutive capital of shattered federal structures of which the armed forces were the last real surviving institution.
Prospects for Canadian-supported goverment thus remained grim and even generous Canadian support couldn't guarantee long-term survival of Caracas goverment represented by desperate military junta. Canadian goverment could eventually even accept facts on the ground in case of the fall of Caracas and subsequent declaration of FAR-GC project of the Revolutionary Republic of Gran Colombia the containment of which would then become a top strategic priority without the need to engage in expensive jungle war. However, recent victories had encouraged FAR-GC to an extent that made their commanders brave enough to cross the red line: There was no chance that Canada would leave anyone to pose a threat to Panama Canal itself.
FAR-GC obviously wanted to use what they perceived as Canadian ''weakness'' to make Canada lose its face and have the flame of revolution spread into Central America and even Mexico where FAR-GC could connect with other movements like Sandinista National Liberation Front, Guatemalan National Revolutionary Unity, Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front, Zapatista Army of National Liberation and others. But above all, even formation of Syndicalist Centroamerica of old days or return of revolutionary spirit to Mexico could be tolerated if Panama Canal could remain safe. But FAR-GC just had to do what Canada and NCR have always feared in their wildest nightmares. Not only that Syndicalist jungle rats have crossed the Darién Gap protected by the shadows of wild swamps and forests, reaching the outskirts of Panama City almost undetected, they even dared to attack the Panama City itself and called other resistance groups infesting United Provinces to rise and paralyze the national goverment. It didn't take long before Canadian and NCR bases surrounding Canal found themselves under heavy fire, the waterway connecting two oceans itself was closed. One of large ships passing the Canal in time of attack was even so badly damaged by FAR-GC attackers that it got stuck in the middle of the canal what practically clogged the waterway and damaged the passageway. Intelligence community issued the warning that FAR-GC advances into United Provinces were initiated without Soviet approval from what we could speculate that rebels have now gone fully rogue.
His Majesty's goverment that was represented by newly sworn Liberal cabinet of Justin Trudeau held an emergency meeting about the ongoing situation. After the consultations with War Minister Sajjan and Canadian Armed Forces Chief of Staff Mobius, the Prime Minister Trudeau concluded that risks of potential confrontations with Internationale are minimal due to clear rogue status of FAR-GC, authorizing military operation of regional ad hoc coalition to repel the aggression of terrorist group. While there was no need to activate collective defence mechanism of Atlantic Treaty due to regional nature of this conflict, Canadian and allied forces were still justified to act in self-defense while the lawful goverment of United Provinces has issued the request for military assistance as well. Military leader Manuel Noriega found himself in such a distress after the fall of national capital to FAR-GC that he had even accepted Canadian request to relinquish civil powers to elected president whom Noriega used to control as puppet in order for United Provinces to enter legally binding agreement with Canada and North American allies. Disgraced Maximum Leader who used to be too soft on FAR-GC before (and was often even accused of tolerating their illegal commerce in exchange for peaceful coexistence and financial gains) was allowed to retain the position of the chief of Federal Defence Forces (their loyalty to Noriega was not to be toyed with) what granted him an oportunity to supervise military operations together with allied commanders.
Operation Just Cause that was started in December of 2015 was spearheaded by Armed Forces of Canada and New California Republic Armed Forces, with shattered Federal Defence Forces of United Provinces (supported by Noriega's paramilitary Dignity Battalions, local security services and federal police forces) were being reorganized and prepared by North American advisors to be dispatched in support of expeditionary forces after their footholds are established.
Operation Just Cause
Canadian airborne forces played significant role in liberation of Panama City and its surroundings.
Heavy urban fighting in Panama City: FAR-GC infiltrators fought for every house.
While Syndicalist invaders who have even declared ''provisional people's authority'' for Panama tried to get North American forces engaged in bloody quagmire from which they'd be forced to retreat in shame, the swift and decisive operation masterminded by Canadian and New Californian commanders destroyed their plans and flushed out the insurgents in brutal urban combat that had left big parts of city in ruins. FAR-GC was forced to retreat back into borderlands while federal security forces dealt with revolts in other provinces as well. Central America was saved.
Canadian CF-18A attacks retreating FAR-GC forces over Darién Gap with laser-guided bomb.
The extremist group suffered heavy loses during their adventure in Panama while panicked retreat from Central America costed them even more men and material thanks to Canadian air strikes. FAR-GC was forced back to South America and United Provinces were assisted with establishment of strong security perimeter in porous border between Central American federation and Gran Colombia. Operation Just Cause was successfully accomplished.
However, this was just a begining of much bigger story. FAR-GC proved it can bleed and what is bleeding can be killed as well. Brazil finally mustered its courage and agreed to long-planned contingency plan that was coordinated with its Canadian partners. President Venturini asked for authorization of rubber stamp parliament that ''permitted'' armed forces to launch extensive military operations in Gran Colombia and Guyanas. In order to legitimize military dictatorship in eyes of North American partners, Brazilian regime has tolerated the existance of sockpuppet parliament which together with occasional ''free and fair elections'' gave Brazilian generals free pass in North American capitals in the issues like trade deals, loands and military support that kept Brazil competive in relation to pro-German regional rivals in Buenos Aires and Syndicalist radicals at home and abroad.
Apart from that, President's request for Brazilian forces to join the Canadian-lead regional coalition against FAR-GC was also granted and Brazil joined North American allies and United Provinces in their active support for Armed Forces of Gran Colombia. Operation Just Cause was extended into new, much larger mission that was known under the name Operation Colombian Freedom. Even such ad hoc coalition is certainly going to strengthen relations of all allied participans what might raise a few eyebrows among Berlin Pact members and especially in Buenos Aires. However, the elimination of such dangerous group justifies our actions and unintended diplomatic consequences should not be a primary concern in such delicate security situation.
