It just my suggest the way you guys handed the DLC, coming from EU4, CK2, and HOI3 , we are pretty much know the way paradox handed dlc from those game, allow me to sort them out into 3 group
1/ The "Expansion" DLC that we all know and love
2/ The totally unrequire DLC that do pretty much nothing to the game, (music, ebook)
3/ The DLC that heavily influence the immersion and face looking of the game , range from "it good to have more" to "how can they charge me for it" , like unit, face....etc

For the first 2, there is no complain here, just leave them that way. What i want to suggest is for the third type, i know a lot of person do annoy about it, me include , i know that Paradox need to earn more, but some consider it too ridiculous . This is what i suggest a good way for both the Dev, and it customer

You take the middle road, you pick a model, a SPECIFIC model for a type of unit of Major faction, and make it represent for all type of unit thoughout the game, so, a japan infantry look complete different with a german or us infantry , those thing set major faction apart from other is something fundamental should include either from beginning or though later patch . So , what did paradox gonna charge us more , they charge us for MORE not for something basic, i can suggest those thing

1/ Different tier of major faction unit, like by default infantry hold only a rife, but with the dlc in later time, when the tech improve you will found the model look different, equipment look different , hold LMG instead of rife. Another example, soviet by default, without dlc, will use T-34 model to represent medium thoughout the game, but with dlc , you will see T-38 in early date, and T-44 in later date ...etc
2/ unit pack for minor faction just as normal.

And please instead of a god damn long list of small DLC, pls pack it into a bigger pack, you doing it just fine with HOI3, i really don't know why you do change it into a riddiculous long list in CK2

PS: i know it too late to change at this moment, but if eveything happen like those previous title, all faction will only have different in color only , and unit will be sold seperate later. You still can consider my idea and put just some model into later patch, and sold those more detail version later

Incorportating WWI into the game seems like me for the best possible expansion for a game like this.
I almost agree, but Cold War gets higher points. I guess Victoria 3 will have WW1, so we could port CK2 to EU4, EU4 to VIC3 and from there we get starting position to HOI4 and finally, after invention of nukes, we go to Cold War.

there will be expansion , and no matter what type it is, new era or improve mechanic, we all know that we will love it, what i try to suggest here is a way to handed those "less important" but still heavy influence the experience of the game like unit pack , potrait in CK2

I would love to see a detailed world war 1, Interwar Years (with lots of alternate history options), and a little bit of Cold War.. I know the last one is a stretch but I want to see a KR like interwar year one that can provide many alternate history options

I cant imagine WW1 would work, The frontlines were too static, You throw 300k men at a province they all die and you move one province back with the line re established wait a year for reinforcements and repeat or wait till you develop tanks make loads then move two or more back and win the war or make the same mistakes as in real life launch too soon and repeat the first step.

If captured equipment doesn't make the release I would definitely like to see it in a dlc pack.

The Eastern front was a good deal more dynamic, but you're spot on with the western front. It wouldn't even be moving a whole province in HoI3/4 terms after a successful attack, they'd need to have 100,000 provinces in Europe to measure the movement of the frontlines (or more sensibly abstract it out as to not having moved other than after the few successful offensives).

World War I -apparently, it only happened in Europe between France and Germany. That must be why they call it a "world" war.

The western front stalemate could probably be handled with fortifications and doctrines. Maybe there would have to be a new way to handle how fortifications are built, meaning the first levels of forts would be relatively quick to build with the investment of time increasing for each level, meaning a lvl10 fort would take several years to build while a lvl1 fort might be built in a few weeks.

I was pointing out the most obvious failing with a WW1 option, Anything to add or just a poor attempt at sarcasm?

In World War 2, there wasn't a lot of movement on the Italian front for the final two years of the war. That doesn't mean that HOI as a whole is a failure.

It's ok if the European front bogs down into stalemate. Also, you said "frontlines" as if the entire war was static, but that's not the case.

You have one static battlefield the Western Front.

Now here are a bunch of non static battlefields

The Balkan wars from 1912 - 1913
The founding of the Republic and the Constitutional Protection War in China from 1911 onwards.
The Russian Front in Europe with the Central powers
The Russian Civil War
The Russian War with Poland in 1919 - 1921
The US expedition into Mexico in 1916
Japanese attacks on Germany's Pacific Holdings
the Italian invasion of Libya from 1911 - 1912
The Arab Uprising in the Ottoman empire from 1916 - 1918.

Wow! Look at all of these non static battlefields.

But I guess since the front is frozen in France... no point in having a game.

there will be DLC, no a single bloody doubt about that, but how it gonna handed. is what i try to suggest here.... but somehow it turn into "what i want my expansion DLC about " instead of "how to handle DLC policy that will be good for Dev, but not piss off and make their customer feel like they bering Rip-off"

..... Did anyone actually read what i read on the first post ?

It's a good idea, and semi-implicitly in discussions about counters and sprites it's been suggested something like skins changing with technology may happen :). You kind of had the actual idea right at the bottom though, so people may not have got to it. I'm kinda happy with the CK2/EU4 approach to skins (which also change with technology over time for many of the larger nations), particularly now that Steam shows you which DLC you have/haven't got (although I think having bundles for them as well would be a good idea).
