I broke down and broke my usual rule of not playing during the week days or when I have something to do and started playing DUN-NUH! a good old fashioned DUN-NUH! game of Crusader Kings. Within an hoDUN-NUH!ur I had an angrDUN-NUH!y mob oDUN-NUH!f rDUN-NUH!DUN-NUH!DUN-NUH!oommates standing outDUN-NUH!side my DUN-NUH!door.

If you haven't gotten it by now, get rid of the message alert, or tone it down... a lot. It blasts rather loud, and I like the music for the most part (or I have my own playing at a reasonable level). Some of the sounds are really quiet (clicking on people) while others are really loud (even notification or clicking on a realm). This needs to be balanced, like watching History channel and then having one of those really loud commercials come on. I don't like the constant "reminder" that an event has occurred. I know I can go into the mixer, but like I said, some sounds are quiet and others are loud so the problem is that I then miss other things.

I for one will not play play CK2 if there isn't a very loud bleating of trumpets at random and at many gut wrenching intervals to keep my neighbors gritting their teeth at night.

You mean you play CK without replacing the sound files with something more reasonable? I salute your dogged willingness to suffer for the art!

That said, obviously it's not ideal when you have to fiddle with the files just to get the game playable. (Incidentally, if you think the trumpets are bad, play the chat sound. Now imagine four hours of an MP game with heavy chat back and forth.) I feel confident Pdox will fix this, though; after all CK is a really ancient game, done on a shoestring budget. Certainly they've learned a lot since the ramen-and-pizza days of 2002! Like, for example, "don't outsource to Snowball".

I for one am glad that I don't live next to vertinox.
I agree. :eek:o

It isn't so much as suffering for the art as it is laziness, I'll be the first to admit that. I never really play CK all that much in multiplayer, and when I do it is usually as a LAN so we can just table talk. I've just been playing a lot lately and I can tell it is irking my room mates (as well as me).
