Part 3 of Storm from the West: Sunset Invasion
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The descendants of the ishfani have returned to the old world but now they call themselves "mayans", a lot of time have passed and the world has changed,, there are less small nations and lots of Empires and Kingdoms, this is how the end of eu4 looked at 300 CE:
I "adapted" that map to Ck2 at the year 250, so the game could have some time to "ck2-ize" the nations, some of them dissapeared, others, expanded. The Etruscans had a lot of civil wars but they survived somehow, i'll use these mods on this part:
- Ancient Religions: as this its a more pagan world i like how this mod represents them, but i limited them as they are too strong, how?, well...they cannot reform.
- Release Vassal as Tributary: This part will cover more than 1k years, and i dont like blobbing, if in some part i began to conquer too much land, i'll just release it as tributary so i can protect the new nation from these other blobs.
- My own mod, that’s mostly gfx, localization, eu4 converter and cultures.
My playstyle its mostly preventing blobs to become too big and limiting myself to conquer only some lands, in this case maybe i'll ending forming the Empire of Hispania. I will use console ONLY to avoid bordergore and big blobs at the end of the game, i like having some diversity on my games.
I will also simulate the rise of christianity (300-500) and islam (620+), i want to see how the HF mechanics deal with this pagan world, and CK2 without Islam its not CK2.
As i'm using the rule to prevent pagans to reform, the mayan faith will be of course, unreformed.

Introduction: The Spymaster
Haztzutz, the Spymaster and wife of the Ahau of the Mayan Expedition, entered the room were his beloved husband were reunited with the other members of the council, they were examining maps and scrolls with comprehensive information about the kingdoms and empires of the region, they were preparing the final details of the invasion to retake the lands of their ancestors, at the back of the room there was a big banner with the symbol of the fallen Mayan Empire, the banner of his husband, Muuk’naal, the rightful heir of Q'uk'umatz.
Since she was a child, she knew the meaning of the banner, but now it looked even more majestic, she knew that the white represented the divine right to rule of the descendants of Q'uk'umatz, and that the purple phoenix on the middle represented the renaissance of their people, Phoenicians, Odiq'e, Mayans... of course the purple represented the nobility of the family she now belonged to, the old Yujnegi and now Q'uk'umatz, and she knew that the banner some day would be on top of the palace of their new Kingdom, in Cadiz.
She understood that her role on this history was important, she was not only the wife of the Ahau that will be the restorer of the Kingdom of Ishfania, she would also be the mother of the first successor of him. Anyways, she wanted to be far more than simply that.
All the council members were expecting her, because this was a special meeting were the Spymaster would inform the rest of the council about the current state of the old world, the Mayans had sent spies and merchants to every part of the Mediterranean and now they had all the intelligence to understand this new world.
So after ordering her servants to open the windows so more light could enter the room, she started the briefing:
-
Our ancestors called it “Ishpania”, our old kings and queens named our land “Isfania”, it means “lands of the rabbits”, “lands of the north” or “the land where metals are forged” depending on who you believe, anyways, we are calling it “Ispania” as the Carthaginians still call these lands. The truth it’s that for the last millennia these lands have beenlocked in an eternal conflict between the Iberians, the Celts, the Phoenicians, and now the Etruscans.
Political, cultural and religious map of Ispania
Haztzutz made a pause, and then continued.
-
The Iberians, the descendants of these who conquered our lands adopted the religious and cultural customs of the celts against they had fought for so many years are ruled by the powerful King Babpo of the Turdetanii, he has been trying to unite the Celtiberian peoples in a Confederation to fight the ever expanding Etruscans and Carthaginians without success. The Turdetanii have conquered vasts amount of territory, have a powerful army but a surprisingly mediocre fleet. - said the spymaster pointing the big map on the table and moving some wooden miniatures over it. -
but we can defeat them if we hire enough mercenaries and divide their forces.
Chak’mool, the chancellor intervened.
-
The Etruscans and the Phoenicians are the real threat in the long run, but we can exploit these differences between the Celtiberian peoples to our advantage, I have sent some diplomats but the Neri, the Iberians and the Lusitani don’t want any pacts with foreigners against the Turdetanii. But I don’t think they would help them in any way…
-
Exactly – added the Spymaster-
they are divided, even if they share faith and culture, they have a long history of fighting each other and if they haven’t united against the Etruscans and the Carthaginians, they surely wouldn’t do against us.
Muuk’naal smiled, and then talked:
-
Well… its seems like the Turdetanii are alone against our might, this will be a good war. We will recover the lands of our ancestors, but please my dear Haztzutz, continue, we need to know about the Mauri, the Phoenicians and the Etruscans.
Haztzutz pointed at the map, the south of the Turdetanii.
-
The Mauri Kingdoms are no more, as their Kingdoms collapsed under the invasions on their homelands by the Turdetanii and Carthaginians, after that each tribe went their own way… but we can hire some of the warriors of these tribes so they can aid us against their enemies. We can even try to create an alliance with them over time…
Suddenly the Spymaster became serious, then moved some wooden miniatures to the Carthaginian positions on the map.
-
But our most dangerous rivals will be the Carthaginians. According to our sources they have a fleet that rival ours and have plenty of resources after years of dominating trade on the Mediterranean, they are even more powerful as they recently conquered the lands of the Kingdom of Sicily…. For now, they seem unstoppable but my sources claim that they are prone to civil wars and that their empire expands all over the Mediterranean, that means that they have plenty of enemies, Etruscans, Greeks, Egyptians, Babylonians, we can use that to our advantage…
-
Well. While that’s true, I have been informed that none of these peoples would make an alliance with us in the short term , religion is the key to create alliances in this world… and we don’t share any similarity with these probable enemies of the Carthaginians- said the Ahau with a serious tone
- They have even ignored our attempts to create trade agreements, they see us as strange barbarians who have reached these islands and that we lack relevance for any kind of bilateral diplomatic relation ... so we will depend on luck for now, please, Haztzutz, tell us about the Etruscans.
The Spymaster fixed her hair and then moved some wooden miniatures to the center of Europe.
-
Well… they are the most powerful Empire of this world and their dominion expands from the eastern mountainous regions of Ispania to the far and mysterious lands of the Finns. Their current Emperor is called Adalbert and on his first year he had intentions to expand into the lands of the Turdetanii but he is currently dealing with yet another civil war…
-
But I have been informed that the Etruscans have been fighting civil wars for the last 50 years, what its the importance of the current one? – said the Ahau looking at the figurines on the map and then continued-
we cannot intervene as we cannot sacrifice our people for nothing, I know that some of you wants that…
Haztzutz smiled and then, after looking for even more wooden miniatures on her bag and putting them on the table continued:
-
But the importance of this civil war, it’s that their western subjects, the Basques and the Gauls are fighting for their independence, if they succeed we can have an interesting turn of events, as that would forever weaken the Etruscans in our area of interest, and even if we would have to conquer the Basques and expel the Gauls from Ispania… they are far from being as powerful as their current overlords.
On the 50 years of "observation mode" the Gauls got a bloodline.*
Lu’um, the Marshall, intervened:
-
We lack the resources to deal with the Etruscans, we need to focus on the Turdetanii and not deviate from our plan … if the rebels succeed, that’s good enough for me, but if they lose, we can still have our lands after taking them from the Celtiberians. The less resources we waste the better.
-
Lu’um is right, we cannot afford with now to fight a foreign war, but please Spymaster, continue. - said Muuk’naal making a gesture so his beloved wife could abandon her idea of intervening in the Etruscan civil war and continued her briefing.
Haztzutz made a pause after looking to his husband and then pointed to the east of the map.
-
Well, to the east there are powerful empires that we can ignore for now, but we still have important information about them. The Egyptians are even more powerful than the Carthaginians but they are focusing right now on the dry lands right at the south of their Empire, they worship a god-emperor who still uses the title of “Pharaoh” like the rulers of the old times and rely heavily on the Nile river, as the rest of their lands are desert.
She moved some miniatures on the map and gave the order for her servants to deliver some scrolls to the rest of the council, it was important that everyone knew the amount of troops that each Empire had and what were their characteristics, so she had bothered herself making a summary with the statistics of each one of them. After her servants finished the task, she continued:
-
To the east of the Egyptians are the Babylonians, they have a great diversity of peoples and faiths under their rule but also have enjoyed a lot of stability compared to the Etruscans, they have kept the Egyptians at bay for a long time, but who knows what can happen in the future. We have heard a lot of stories about their evil Emperor, but we don’t know if they are true at all or just propaganda, the assyrians are known for their evil ways…
She made a short pause while looking through the window, the sun began to set and the room became darker and darker, so she ordered her servants to light the candles and close the windows, so she could continue her exposition:
-
And last, but not least important are the Hellenes, the Kingdom of Sicily fell to the Carthaginians some years ago, and the Makedonian Empire imploded after a series of civil wars, but the Lydian Empire is stronger than ever, while the Kingdom of Epirus started to decline and the Kingdom of Hellas remains stable. According to our sources, after centuries of dominance most Hellenic powers have fallen after civil wars, only to be absorbed by unknown barbarians, we can surely say that we got back into this part of the world only to see the decline of the Hellenes…
The council still looked at her, as if waiting for her to continue speaking, but she was tired, so she asked them to read the scrolls that her servants had given them a while ago, she sat at her seat and looked at her husband on the other side of table. She needed to convince him to help the rebels against the Etruscans, she was sure that it was the only way to weaken that mighty Empire, but she understood her husband's reasons for not making that decision, resources were scarce and of course they could not just waste them ... but ...
Suddenly the Ahau spoke.
-
Well, this was a productive meeting, tomorrow we will be informed about the religions of these lands and how we can use them against our enemies, so, good night my brothers…
Haztzutz smiled, she now had more time to plan her strategy, while the other members of the council left the room, she kept thinking, while gently stroking the fish-like amulet she had hanging around her neck ...
