I've played a little beta4 up to sometime in '42 when it crashed.

Couped Norway and Sweden in 38, puppeted Norway in the same year, proceeded to puppet Sweden just in time of MolRib agreement.

After I kicked polish butt in about a month I turned on the french.
Thankfully I conviced the NL to join forces, so I dont have to worry about them flanking.

Took me a year to get Vichy, and now still in 42 I have brits and french running around forcing me to put a tankforce there.

And because it is 42 the soviets dowed me, annected Romania outright and is slowly working on Hungary while I try to keep them out of my polish possessions.

You know what's really funny?

I usually run out of supplies before I do on manpower. (beeing a sissy helps of course)

I hope in the newest beta you fixed the stupid japanese, because they are about to get kicked out of fucking south-korea.

Disaster in Korea!

N!ghtY, you horrible, horrible man.

Started playing your R-S mod yesterday. Decided to go for a naval strategy and researched mainly naval techs. Figured I could still conduct limited offensives in China. You know, advance slowly on land and make a lot of Seaborne invasions along the coast before taking on the Western allies.
I should have known something bad was coming when Manchuria gave in to NatChi:s demands in late -37. This meant that they could concentrate their defenses on the Korean border, fortifying to lvl 4 on top of that. Figured hey, I'll take 'em anyway, it'll just take a little longer and cost some more. I'll go through those peasant hordes like hot steel through butter! Upgraded my Tac-bombers just to make sure.
Attacked them in April -39 and they kicked the sh*t out of me, my attackforce was thrown back and they counterattacked. I lost that combat too. So now they had a foothold in the mountains, my forces were cut off and at 5-10 org/25-40 strenght. I had nothing left to attack them with in those mountains, nothing.

Great, I love it! I've been yawning my way through my last Europe-games, this was my first Pacific-game. Talk about a baptism of fire. It was my own arrogance that did me in. That and your NatChis on steroids. But now I know...
I'll crank up a new game later tonight with a completely new strategy.

Great work!

Great updates. Keep them coming.

One tactic I use to test out your mods that always seems to work is getting a group of 40+ tac bombers and concentrating on that tech area. Once you have that many your forces are unstoppable. I have destroyed 25+ unit stacks of USSR forces in less than 7 bombing runs. I'm sure this is a known exploit but it would be great if you could beef up the air def and try and also thwart this strategy.

I don't think this is an air def problem, more a problem with the managment of large forces. Do they add the effectivnes of all the planes together or what? I have read that effectivness should drop if you have more units i a stack than the present leader can handle, but this does not seem to be true for planes. If it is possible to modify this "leader penalty" in a mod, I encourage
N!ghtY to do so :). Tac planes eliminating infantry divs is not very realistic..

I doubt the north vietnamese or the afgans would agree with you. Almost all the afgan casualties from America were incurred by bombing. Tactical bombing is quite effective on infantry. Try playing Sudden Strike and see what bombers can do. It's realistic.

If you think planes are too strong, that's only because the ai is too dumb to use fighters. Online your bombers would have a real tough time no doubt. Making planes weaker is no answer. Adjusting the ai to start using fighters makes a lot more sense to me. The ai always builds stacks of fighters which sit far away from the fighting and are lost during annexaction or to ground units.

A little feedback

Hi N!ghtY and others! I've finally played this mod (Rising Sun, only so far), and it's great. But here's a few things that need to be fixed: first, the Norwegian waters are mined event, the Norwegian word looks this in the game: Nowegian. Just a minor typo, but I wanted to point it out...Second: when the Germans finally got to war (January -40, 'cause the Poles folded and gave Danzig  ), they started loosing to the Allies, and even lost Wilhelmshafen briefly to Netherlands, but, what is worst: they lost Freiburg and Konstanz to France! And, when I turned FOW briefly off to check the situation, I noticed that the Germans had 23 divisions sitting on their asses in Berlin!! Germany was losing provinces, and about 1/6 ot the mighty Wehrmacht was just on holiday in Berlin...can this be fixed? And, now I've almost conquered China, 'cause of a problem: at some point, every land unit in their army became 0 org! So now I can just march into every province, and capture them, no matter how many divisions I/they have got. Maybe they haven't got anymore enough resources? 'Cause after the war started, they began building militia like hell, and at some point, had almost 300 divisions. They were doing fine to about the start of 1940, but then that org thing happened...And one more thing: I noticed that you haven't given the Slovakians any steel, so I'm afraid that they still have 0 org...Bolt fixed this in 1.02a/b. No matter, this mod is great! Thanks to all of you for making this!

I am sorry i cannot comment on everything right now, i will do so monday be sure.

Just a short note.

Little update on the package:

* added goatis86 sprites the package (Thank you!!)
* goatis sprites would have made a 10MB package :), that is why I SHRINKED the package down to 4,98MB with all still included! This is for all you 56k owners. I can shrink it another 500KB but not now.
* fixed bug: uk sends troops ....
* fixed bugs: typos ....

Have fun, give feedback :) and cu soon!

I'm gonna try the stony road mod playing as Italy and help defend Germany against the enemy hoards. Or go down together in a hail of fire. Should be fun.

Nightydude, you new version I just downloaded. Why yesterday's version had a cool little box of books icon (I didn't get to play it) but today we're back to the boring old computer icon?

I WANT THE BOX OF BOOKS ICON!!!!!!!!!! ;)

I played Italy up to about 1940 on the latest Stony Road edition and had to quit after a couple of problems.

1) UK sends troops to northern France turned out to be a stack of Italian tanks and mobile infantry. They almost immediately perished due to no supply and my convoy was sunk before it got out of my Roma harbour. You might wanna check the nationality you're assigning those "help" divisions to.

2) The tech "cackling fluid thingy-dinger" (I think this spelling's not quite right) in the industry tech promises a 10% increase to IC's. As Italy I went big on computer & industry to help out my low IC's (214 in 1940) and got nothing in return! The tech had no effect at all on my IC's after several years of researching to get it! :( I tried a save/load to make sure, waited for several days to pass after the tech came out, still stuck at 214 IC's. I don't know if you deactivated it or not but you should check it because it caused me to quit a good game and may screw up other people's games too.

As for Germany it was very weak as expected and after 1 year of war only managed to take Danzig from Poland and no French properties. I was slowly taking over the British properties in Africa with a stalemate on the French side 7 vs 7. British navies kept my navy in port with severe losses. Convoys wiped out by British.

I was almost done gearing up to launch an assault of 60+ infantry (30% mtn) into Southern France to get the show on the road but was stopped short by the cackling fluid let-down.

It was a very challenging game for sure. I highly recommend everyone to try Italy on Stony road once these 2 problems are gone. And put lots of infantry in Africa to make sure. Good scenario.

Does shrinking the sprites degrade image quality?
The skrinking is done by converting .bmp to .jpg files.
I only did this for the loading screens and the propaganda posters now. I have to see if it can be used for other parts (sprites) without a noticable loss in quality.
Decompressed the mod now is a whopping 23MB ! Packed it is under 5MB.

I WANT THE BOX OF BOOKS ICON!!!!!!!!!!
This was the Icon from WinRAR :) the installer will soon have it's own icon :)

Noted in beta4 and fixed in beta5 already. Thanks!

2) The tech "cackling fluid thingy-dinger" (I think this spelling's not quite right) in the industry tech promises a 10% increase to IC's.
If i got it right it provides a 10% increase in SUPPLY PRODUCTION efficiency. You should see a drop in supply-demand when researched.

I can shrink it down to 664 KB after throwing out all unnecessary stuff (read: all pictures/movies/exe).

Size of the parts of the mod in KB:

cgem posters 1945
colorscale 2
counter-color 84
denamrk update 164
finish leaders 317
german shields 75
japanese 75
missing leaderspics 227
notimelimit 22
sprites goatis 3890
island mod 459
sr interface 500
sr intro 331
sr loadingstarting 10661
sr minimap 41
sr leaders 169
sr modfiles 2863
sr techs 162
sr unitspeeds 54
unitnames mod 959

If you only take the mod-files these can be compressed to 478KB.
The thing is i want to have the creditscreens in... I don't like people having contributed to get no credit for it.
Maybe i'll have a version only with modfiles+creditscreen.

Nooty-snooty, I was using beta 5 when the UK sends troops to northern france mix-up occurred. Dude, you gotta check it again. Do it for the faithful stony road community!

As for the cackling fluid, it definitely says +10% industrial output which is increased IC's. None of the industrial techs affect supply in any way. The consumption down techs like standardised ammo, supply crates, naval resupply vessels are all supply decreasers. Cackling fluids, however, is the next step up from propopalane material which correctly increased my IC's by 5%. Italy needs it dude or Germany is hooped! Think about the poor little wehrmacht in despair and then you'll definitely feel like having another look. :D

Hi Rodentdung. Thank you for feedback.
Could you please send in a savegame just before it occurs. One thread lower i will post a public FTP-Account everybody may use.
I rechecked the event and cannot find an error.

Think about the poor little wehrmacht in despair
I am :D
But check that again (i have not changed that and it has also confused me in my first hoi-games!!)

you will see a directory "nighty" there.
Just create a folder for yourself and copy stuff there.

Snooty-pooty, the picture you showed is the Fluid Catalytic Cracking Plants. I was talking about the Cackling Fluid Thingy-Dinger which is very different. And where are the chemistry schematics like polypropane has to prove your theory?

 *small voice* Of course, its for supply isn't it. This is what happens when I play the game on superfast mode. Terribly sorry.

As for the Uk sending troops to northern france, the helper units apparently are shipped as the nationality of the human player regardless of which country you play. I don't have a save available right now and it may be a week or so before I fire up another game. So you can verify, the version I downloaded and used today was named (exactly):

astonyroad sr5 rs3 wt0

If you did fix this after this version, then please disregard.
