... meaning I knew this would likely crash the game, but tried it anyway just to make sure. :)

I captured a British fleet, including a carrier with its air wing still on deck. When I attempted to upgrade the carrier, I got the popup "Our air unit has been annihilated!", followed immediately by CTD. I haven't checked this out but I might guess that the same would happen with one's own carrier, if you forgot to rebase the planes before upgrading.
