When I looked over at Milan during a Patriachal Germany campaign, I noticed that Milan had flipped to a republic, but its leader was a 'Doge' and not 'Captain-General' as before. The king rank (when italy left the empire) was 'Serene Doge'.

This is incredibly disappointing, and actually stopped me from playing Milan, given that "Doge" might be the second-most generic title in the game (next to 'King') and 'Captain-General' was one of the best (and more historical for the Golden Ambrosian Republic)

I realise that there's nowhere to upgrade the title, but I think it beats 'Doge', 'Serene Doge', and 'Great Doge' anyway, so it hardly matters if all three ranks have the same title (like the pope does).

Please fix this small error (probable oversight?)

I love playing Milan regardless. Milan is so FREAKING GOOD after CS!

They can put "Great Douche" in front of the name for all I care.

I've noticed that Milan is pretty OP at growing tall, and fielding frankly huge armies.

Also, the AI has a slight problem sieging the cluster of forts they tend to make.

I'm aware, and I could do it in five minutes given the simplicity of the EUIV files, but wouldn't that break ironman?

It would require editing both the
\common\government names\00_government_names
and
\localisation\government_names_I_english
files

It's actually possible to mod in country and government-specific titles like that (and like, say, Austria being an 'Archduchy'), without much in the way of difficulty.

I feel your pain. Reminds me of playing Russian Republic and seeing "Posadnik" as the head of the state. That's disgusting. Then I tried Tribal Despotism and saw they had a "Chief" - and Chief is almost Fuhrer!

The issue is how fucked up of a governmental form it is. Which is made even worse by the suitable daughter for an heir event and tech cutting national ideas/events. 20 year old Dogaressa Emma (started 5/4/3 in my game I think and instantly upgraded to 6/5/4) rulling till her 70s pretty much guarantees that Milan will never be second in any technology. Then there is the +20 Republican Tradition event making it viable to always keep the ruler till they are dead (more like elective monarchy!). Plus the decades of having muskets while they lag behind.

All around fun!


But yeah, they really need to fix the localized titles. Captain-General is too cool sounding to ignore. Byzantium also has this problem I think.

Dude what. "Chief" is pretty much the standard English-language word for "singular leader of a tribal polity". The cases where another word is used are basically the ones where a word from that polity's language has filtered into widespread familiarity in English e.g. Khan.

I've noticed that Milan is pretty OP at growing tall, and fielding frankly huge armies.

Also, the AI has a slight problem sieging the cluster of forts they tend to make.
With a good ruler (Gian Galeazzo Visconti), it fought off a miniature version of the 7 Years War (a coalition of the rest of Italy plus the HREmperor), so it mostly fits.

It's actually possible to mod in country and government-specific titles like that (and like, say, Austria being an 'Archduchy'), without much in the way of difficulty.

I agree. I have always liked that my ruler is Captain General. As a monarchist I usually don't play republics but Milan with his Ambrossian Republic was exception becouse of nice ruler name.
