I was figuring that, when you stand down a unit, the men within are done fighting, they may have been in the standing army for years, and it's about time they settle down, or, if they were still young, maybe take up a less dangerous job as a town guard or something.
So, what if EU4 has the option when, when in friendly territory (or occupied by you), to disband a unit with half of the men in the unit reinforcing the castle? ergo, you decrease the cost of your military, decrease reinforcement costs as well, while reinforcing the territory almost instantly. This should be most useful when having a war of attrition, where provinces are assaulted and re-assaulted, to give a province an instant defence against assaulting, at the cost of decreasing your current military strength.
