Longtime Paradox game player fairly new to HOI4, so I'm learning a lot. There's a lot to like, but I do have some frustrations, particularly in the way naval and air warfare are handled. These have been hashed out in many other threads.
One particular weirdness is the way a CL stuffed with float planes has the best surface detection of any ship. This makes sense, mostly -- naval recon planes were super useful in WW2 (at least during the day). But what doesn't make sense is that such a scout CL has better surface detection than a CV.
I'm proposing a simple fix for this: Just mod the stats of all CV's to have surface and sub detection equal to or greater than a CL stuffed to the brim with float planes. Just like the float planes on a CL are notional (can't be shot down, don't have to send them on missions), can't we just assume that all CV's have a notional recon squadron that's always active?
This wouldn't fix all of the naval issues, but it seems an obvious improvement to me. Surely this idea has been considered and rejected, though -- why? What am I missing?
