We are currently limited at 1 lance vs 1 lance because of balancing: Imagine 12 Mechs vs 12 Mechs, as an example.
-> If you have lots of Mechs with fast initiative, you can easily cripple 2-3 Mechs of the opposing team with impunity, giving you an immediate advantage.

That means, with so much firepower on the field, every mistake counts more, every failed shot counts more, not less. It is very hard to get the upper hand again, if you end up at a disadvantage just once.
And that's not fun.

You don't have that imbalance between firepower and armour if you limit the available firepower to the firepower of 1 lance.

For example: That's why it's so hard to balance Clan vs IS if you go by BV in TT. The IS-Mechs have superior numbers and thus way more armour than the Clan-Mechs have firepower. That means, the IS-Mechs have ample time to grind down the Clan-Mechs while for the Clan-Mechs every loss counts.
-> Superior numbers mean A LOT.

How do we solve this?

The idea is actually fairly simple:
Implement a limit for how many Mechs can shoot/melee at one and the same target during a round. E.g. no more than 3-4 Mechs are allowed to shoot at the same target.

This will prevent the side with locally superior numbers from wiping out Mechs from your team before you have a chance to react.
