I wanted to share a story of change in a city, just a discreet area of development rather than a full city story.
Here is Oldenburg, my European city, from above.
The heart of the city is Oldenburg proper where development growth has been stopped from going to high. Below it Hilltop has taken on a lot of Office and commercial space that has been free to modernize. As the city has expanded, though, the old industrial sector of Prospect has been cramping development.
But there is space right across the highway... where New Prospect can take root and Prospect can gentrify and convert.
This will also offer a chance to remove the old coal plants and fully convert the electric grid to solar.
The streets in Prospect were largely removed, and a central feature was added to give the development some character.
(It seemed fitting to use the Statue of Industry)
The rest of the roads were laid and the first commercial centers opened. Initially the cargo station remained, but eventually it was to be a real road hassle and was relocated also.
As growth began, services were placed, unique buildings placed, 3 subway stations were added, and a bus line laid out.
Growth and development continues, but Prospect is cemented as a significant sector of the city. I have started to connect it to the internal rail network, and am satisfied with how it worked out. Now to plan the next project.
And so passed hour 271 in game...
