A ruler needs to have an entourage when joining others courts.
Currently there exists the court which resides with all it's courtiers in the capital of the domain they belong to. But historically rulers and important figures had their own entourage. A retinue which followed their leader where ever he resided, even if it wasn't his own court at home.

When a ruler decides to join the court of their liege because they took a position in his council they should be able to take along their family, partner and children, and other followers and friends and servants from their own court. These people would now also be part of that liege's court, even if they truly belonged to that rulers entourage.
It would open up countless possibilities, especially for role play. You would probably think twice to bring along your beautiful wife to the court of your lustful liege. Maybe you want to get better access to a certain person in your neighbors entourage, so you yourself join the court of your liege where your neighbor and his retinue resides. You could have an easier time to convince a guardian to take your child and vice versa. Maybe being in someone else court/entourage brings you close enough to lands outside your diplomatic range.
Some of the retainers probably would also follow a commander and their army under certain conditions.
If your capital with your court is under attack and your family manages to flee, they would join your entourage and vice versa.

this is a great idea, it would also solve the issue I am currently having with the game, after choosing to play as a crusader (king of Egypt) my wife and my only daughter and heir are still in wales, I cannot invite them to my court because they are out of diplomatic range so I will probably have to change succession laws before the King of Wales marries my daughter to some dynasty in Britain

Wow! Soo cool!

Likely, a new title tier is needed to cover this - a tier that enables dual court. Today this is somewhat enabled for a titleholder. THere are events counting me - a landed lord Councillor - as both in my own capital court and in my liege´s court. As a commander, the same. I´m both with the army and in my capital. With an entourage I can bring people along, unlanded people. If my entourage is "active"(IE I´m not at my court), then everyone assigned to the entourage is where I am.

you should not be able to be in 2 courts at once, if your in the army you should not also be in your capital

you should not be able to be in 2 courts at once, if your in the army you should not also be in your capital

Then we need to change alot of event as already now, you are in 2 courts when a landed Councillor and still in your court when leading armies.
And another aspect that if you assign a courtier to be in your entourage, all plots they are involved in at your court will be broken.
The optimal ofc is that they are only at the entourage and wherever the entourage happens to be but think that would be too hard to implement, I think the "dual court" - solution is viable. It can be completely geared with minor titles.

landed councillors are not allowed to lead their own armies already and plots should be broken when you leave court with your entourage, how would a jealous climate murder you if you were miles away in someone else's court, the answer is they would have to convince members of your lieges court to murder you

Ok. You are ofc right. But you are adding 1000% complexity to the change :)

I have not said Councillors can lead armies at the same time(Though they can, they just can't perform a council task at the same time but it´s another point) But leading armies and performing chouncillor- tasks are the 2 main situations when an entourage should come into action, isn't it?
