BTW, we are gonna to have a game tonight? Because the thread is quite silent this days.

I hope so. I'll be there, anyway. Doesn't help that a number of us seem to be on vacations, in the middle of moving, and the like, while another number of us have simply disappeared. *coughcoughhgcough*

Is the game still at 8:30 pm EST? What version are you running? I'm pretty sure I'm free tonight, so I'll drop in if you need another sub. I can be around until 12 am or so.

As for where I've been. Well, playing Victoria, defending Paragon City (an online game - City of Heroes), running physics experiments, trying to make up for all those Friday nights I played Eu2 (my wife was quite unhappy after 3 months of it), and recovering from the humiliating defeats of my Fri. night Poland.

You did a good job fighting me. With the war exhaustion Kiev had, and the WS I had, I could have stabhit for a lot and forced you to cede it. I think the decision to accept the peace offer I sent was a good one.

OK, Iam without internet acess till I find a place to rent here... and the flat I found I will have to wait a month or so before moving to it. So, unfortunetelly I will not be able to play anymore for quite some time.

Sorry people, I was expecting it would be easy to find a good place to rent in this city, but its not.

I was liking to play The LEague, specially now that there were some moves and wars. :(

Monday game

It was interesting to sub in the game last night, its a far different world from most games, that's certain. The setup resembles something more of a wargame than a historical simulation. There's a huge disparity in tech levels, the reason for which is not immediately clear. The fundamental problem seems to be that the economic technologies in the game are far, far more advanced than the military techs, which is bizarre. Must have been a long, peaceful era at some point (Probably due to the massive amount of land that needed to be colonized before territory became scarce and conflict began). Its also clear that some nations were far more able to utilize their cultures (HRE, Germany) than others (Sicily, Leon) - and that has led to some of the economic gap. The events seemed a bit too beneficial. I had only a limited sampling, but none of them were all bad, and the harmful effects of most of them were far too feeble (200 ducats or a revolt or two is not significant at the stage the game is at) to inconvenience the HRE. This isn't to mention the two events that gave me RMs with the opposing alliance. The alliances need to shift a little, and with half the game running with subs, its very difficult to shift the balance. Hopefully you'll be able to find permanent replacements, because bipolar worlds are dangerous places.

All in all, an interesting experience, but not the kind of game I prefer. Hopefully I left HRE in a position where they have a chance in hell of repelling the enormous German army, but given the incredibly weak condition of HRE's colonies, the dominating size of the German army (and her manpower reserves), and the alliance against the HRE, I don't think victory is achievable even with the CRT advantage she has over everyone on land and everyone but USB at sea. Hopefully someone with better diplomatic skills will take the HRE over.

Nice session and all (Leon income grew by 50%, 2 nice COTs and the like)

But as I said ingame that one new pirate and I was out, I retire of the game. I didn't in session to not make problems for the crew, but now -and with one whole week to look for a new Leon- I believe I can do that. Since I believe Leon is in not that bad position (middle of the road in income and techs, crappy MP anyway), I think it should be possible to got a new player.

BTW, some pirates here and there, fine. But defeat a pirate, inmediately new pirate, defeat them, inmediately new pirate and repeat until fleet moves or is defeated is very annoying. Specially when that thing avoid that armies can retreat to the fleet (at least twice). Going from +40WS to 0 because you can't maintain your naval offensive is no my idea of fun (no use to send troops to take moroccan provinces when they can't go back to the fleet because they are fighting eternally some pirates).

Regarding the alliance comments, an alliance between Germany plus Sicily (small nation) and Leon (middle nation but crappy MP -70 I think) is not an uber-alliance. Sicily and Leon need to survive a big, bad ally.

You went from +40 WS to 0 because:
1) I took back south africa and all the zero fort provs on the southwest coast. Only a matter of sending 1k cav there.
2) I captured tago, catalonia, and bearn
3) I won a number of battles against you (see #2)

I'm not quite sure, either. Around 1480-1500, the HRE and the USB began seriously trading and hyperteching, and we have totally dominated economically ever since.

The fundamental problem seems to be that the economic technologies in the game are far, far more advanced than the military techs, which is bizarre. Must have been a long, peaceful era at some point (Probably due to the massive amount of land that needed to be colonized before territory became scarce and conflict began).

You are quite right in that there was a long era of peace -- mostly caused by the HRE's utter dominance. There's been no lack of possible conflict, but every time the threat of Imperial interference has kept things peaceful... until the world war in 1629.

Its also clear that some nations were far more able to utilize their cultures (HRE, Germany) than others (Sicily, Leon) - and that has led to some of the economic gap.

The HRE had some serious diplomatic and military victories early on that, among other things, pushed Brittany (soon to become the USB) off the continent, knocked Mecklenburg (to become the Hanseatic League) out of inland Germany, pushed Leon out of France, and essentially forced Mecklenburg and Leon to become its allies. (Vassals, more like it.)

The events seemed a bit too beneficial. I had only a limited sampling, but none of them were all bad, and the harmful effects of most of them were far too feeble (200 ducats or a revolt or two is not significant at the stage the game is at) to inconvenience the HRE.

Yes, there are some serious problems with this event set. You should have seen it before we edited it. :p It also doesn't help that the events aren't scaled. The new set we're using on Wednesday is, hopefully, much better. I suspect this has a large part to do with the huge economies -- maintaining positive stability is way too easy.

This isn't to mention the two events that gave me RMs with the opposing alliance. The alliances need to shift a little, and with half the game running with subs, its very difficult to shift the balance. Hopefully you'll be able to find permanent replacements, because bipolar worlds are dangerous places.

Yeah. There's definitely room for diplomatic shifting... but not with that many subs.

Indeed, and this surprising fact is why the game has managed to limp on as long as it has. :)

We've tweaked the scenario a bit for Wednesday. We'll see how it works... hopefully we won't have the same technological disparity problems. (Or the century-long hyperteching.)

another player lost , now we need new regulars for league , leon , hre and possible kiev (tho if hyzenhok desn't show up soon kon wan'ted to take over kiev)

Damn, with that many gone, I'm not sure what point there is to continuing.

(By the way, on the subject of pirates: as far as I am concerned, they are fine for everything except preventing troop disembarking or re-embarking, which is deserving of two-kitchen-knived justice.)
