Komuch_small.jpg

After deciding to stop all my old AARs What Other AARs. I had no active AARs before this one. Anyway this Time I'm Playing the Siberian Whites in the RUS Gran Campaign with a number of rules which might make this rather interesting. The 5 in the Picture are the Original 5 members of the Komuch and are going to be the primary characters in this. Along with a few Generals and others. It depends how the game goes. They are Ivan Brushvit, Prokopiy Klimushkin, Boris Fortunatov, Vladimir Volsky (chairman) and Ivan Nesterov.

First Update soon.

A Meeting in Samara

RUS_2.jpg

"I assure you all that so far the Uprising has been a complete success. We have secured the area around Samara and our forces have begun preparing with the Support of the Czechs to begin launching attack against Bolshevik positions at Saratov and Kazan. We have also worked out a deal with the Siberian army which is beginning to move forward to the agreed line from Ufa. They have temporarily recognized our claim to be the Supreme power in Russia." stated Vladimir Volsky " Very good Vladimir but what of these other reports. Semenov's army in the Far east and these Turkmen rebels in Central Asia? What about this line? Where does it lie and what have we promised those Siberians in exchange for their recognition." replied Boris Fortunatov. "Ahh those. Semenov it seems will not be leaving the Far east, The Turkmen rebels are utterly unwilling to leave Central Asia but equally they are few in number as are Semenov's Men. The line is the Volga and then the Kama. As for the Promises we have made the only one is that if we are forced back beyond the Volga and Lose Samara we'll be forced to recognize them as the Supreme power in Russia. Now Samara lies on the East Bank of the Volga but we should be able to hold without them. Gaida is already moving in from Central Asia and other Czech Detachments are moving against Ufa before coming to our aid. Equally we have heard of Successes against Bolshevik holdouts in the Far east. Semenov has apparently cleared Chita while Diterikhs has sent an official report on his capture of Khabarovsk.

RUS_1.jpg

Siberian Units are moving on Orsk and Ekaterinburg while Central Asian Rebels are besieging Samarkand. In the Far east All remaining outposts of the Reds are either under siege or about to come under attack. The Far east will soon be cleared of the Bolsheviks once and for all." stated Vladmir Volsky. " Equally our own forces are readying and beginning to move against a number of Red positions. Two detachments are planning an attack against Saratov while other forces are preparing an uprising north of the Kama which will be able to threaten Kazan. We have a full picture of our forces here.

RUS_4.jpg

We are ready to begin major operations as long as we face minimal resistance. Our information has already pinpointed three considerable red forces. One is at Aralsk with the others at threatened Orsk and Ekaterinburg. It seems likely Bolshevik forces are present elsewhere on the Volga but current intelligence doesn't report anything on them. Equally we've received reports that White forces operating further west have taken Arkhangelsk while White forces at the Mouth of the Don have launched an attack against Red forces in the Kuban. Equally it seems the Bolsheviks have gotten the Gold train they sent to the East to hide it from the Germans stuck in Kazan Station. If we can take that quickly we may be able to gain access to the Gold inside and use it to fund our army." said Prokopiy Klimushkin.

RUS_3.jpg

"We've also managed to reach an economic and logistics agreement with the Siberians. They are willing to send forward to us some of their gained money and conscripts until we are crushed. However they are nervous about engaging in Conscription or Requisition too much. The peasants they say may well get angry about it and begin forming bands of rebels. We've also got permission to use supplies gathered in Siberians lands if we can get it to reach us. We have similar agreements with Semenov and the Turmens but neither are willing to let us gather recruits or money in their lands. Still the Situation seems hopeful and we'll return at our next meeting one month from now" said Vladimir Volsky.

A Note on my Self imposed house rules

As the Update says beyond the Volga (Kama in the North) only units attached to the Komuch can go. This includes the Czechs and the Various allied intervention forces except the Japanese. There aligned with Semenov who can't advance past Irkutsk without the Siberians having been defeated and since I'm also relentlessly playing to the Unit area limitations even then they can't. It also completely limits all Central Asian forces and the other units they get to Central Asia. I'm also limiting myself to two Conscriptions and Requisitions in Siberian territory at any time until the Primacy swaps to them as described. If they get push beyond Krasnoyask I'll swap to Semenov effectively and get free use of his territory. All Komuch Territory I have free reign over. Central Asian lands are always limited. I can use the Local Conscriptions and Requisitions as long as the bulk of the forces recruited by it are used in the appropriate area. So If I do a Conscription in Mongolia the Conscripts should be used to build more Far eastern light infantry or cavalry. Also I'll only give precise information about battles for the Appropriate faction or if the appropriate faction has troops present. Other factions will only get unclear reports unless it's a major victory and for bad defeats only rumors will appear. This Map shows the Borders in case there unclear.

Good luck old sprout, will be following.

A-ha! Another RUS AAR! And you've picked the one side I have even a marginal understanding of: the Siberians. Good luck and just make sure you use those Czechs well before they suddenly decide to up and leave (a pet peeve from my one playthrough with the Siberians - I should've seen it coming, but I didn't).

I think I'll need good luck. The Upcoming Update in the second bit I'll go a bit more into the scale of the Challenge I've set myself

As above. Luck is the one thing I need most to make this work.

Well I'll try to make good use of them. But the ones who stay behind will become all the more important.

I'll be following too, Thandros. Is it a SP or MP?

SP I don't think what I'm doing would be possible in multiplayer against anyone who has played the game before.

A Message from Moscow

RUS_8.jpg

"I bring good tidings the war is going quite well. We have new allies who have taken the field for us and our own supporters are mobilizing new troops for our cause in the north." stated Vladimir Volsky. " These new allies who are they? Can they be trusted?" replied Boris Fortunatov. "I'm certain of that much as their position is utterly at odds with that of the Monarchists and the Bolsheviks now consider them traitors. The Left Socialist Revolutionaries have risen against Bolshevik power in central Russia. The Bolsheviks have been thrown into disorder by these events and even now are struggling to react. I received a message from Left SR units around the edges of Moscow itself indicating their willingness to support our cause. However not every communist was quite so disorganized. Trotsky managed to form a rough force and attacked the same units quickly however their leader Popov managed to escape from the fighting and is willing to support other operations.

RUS_11.jpg

We had other units rise up as well. North of the Kama Molchanov has raised 7,000 men for our cause while several other revolts have sprung up on the opposite bank of the Kama to the city of Perm. We have begun mobilizing these units for an offensive against Kazan if possible though we find they may need support. Equally as it became clear the Left SR had failed to gather enough support in their revolt we sent the fleet up the Volga to pick up a large section of them at Yaroslavl. The operation is going to plan and other units that were further away are moving towards our positions on the left bank of the Volga. I have got a map to show the positions of the revolting forces.

RUS_9.jpg

We have good news from the various fronts as well. We have reports that more Turkmen rebels have gathered in Central Asia but also that Zinoviev is raising a force at Aralsk to oppose them or our allies to the north. The same allies have inflicted a sharp defeat against the Bolshevik general Blucher and his South Ural army forcing them out of their base at Orsk. Our own forces managed to taken the city of Ufa in a easy victory over a red garrison.

RUS_6.jpg

Siberian units also moved towards Ekaterinburg however Berzin who was defending the city was able to escape along the rails lines apparently and they had to settle for the gain of the city itself. We have scarce reports of the situation however it seems to have mostly been a easy victory. However it seems during the fighting Red Guard units killed the Tsar and his family." finished Vladmir Volsky. "There may be positive side effects for us over this. With the Tsar out the way our Monarchist allies in Siberia and the other Monarchists on the Don have their idea to restore the Tsar weakened since the Tsar is now dead and they'll have to find a new claimant to the throne." commented Ivan Nesterov.

RUS_12.jpg

" In the far east we've mopped up most of the various Communist holdouts in the Region. Only one remains and some Czech troops under Diterikhs are moving to assist a detachment of Sememov's army which is operating against them. All other red positions in the far east have been utterly crushed and we are now fairly certain that the East is no longer under any large scale threat of Communist influence. In particular our Czechs reported in a victory at Irkutsk.

RUS_7.jpg

However The western whites are also being active. Deniken in the south is spreading his influence through out the Kuban and has inflicted several defeats we believe on the Communist armies under Sorokin who leads the Bolshevik forces in the Kuban. The white forces around Murmansk have also been getting more active. The White general Miller has just arrived and has begun organizing that front for future combat operations against the Red forces in the north. It seems that their may be a threat to Petrograd in the near future." stated Vladmir Volsky.

A note on the Komuch and a few other things

Playing primarily as the Komuch brings with it a number of difficult challenges. First and most obviously they can't build any multi element brigades like the Primary factions but you do have a few at your disposal. All three revolts north of the Kama bring 1 brigade of 3 elements of regular infantry and a heavy artillery regiment. An much larger problem is the lack of leaders. One of the reasons I separated Popov from his troops was to increase the chances they would fail to engage him and as such an enable me to use Popov to form divisions at a later date. The troops were of poor quality any way so will not be missed much. As for Berzin's escape not much I could do about this. Berzin's army is more than strong enough to defeat any of the forces which can reach it on turn one and anyone will retreat it after turn one to avoid the mob of White troops that can storm towards the region. Utterly unimportant but cool is that if you leave a training officer in charge of an airfield he'll convert fighter planes into Aces. Since I have no idea how air power even works in RUS this is of no real importance.

Interesting limitations with the Komuch-only units. Of course, you do get the awesome Kappel as a leader, that should help a bit. ;)

I heard this forum is closing in the near future (exact date is unclear), as Paradox has returned the rights to all AGEOD games to AGEOD itself. I hope you can get a nice bit into the AAR, but just in case the place gets locked up sooner than expected: thanks for the AAR. :)

interesting set up and restrictions, would suggest you restart on the AGEOD forum though, not sure how long this will be open for new comments/updates

I'm storing the Updates in a word Document. If this section does die I'll put it on AGEOD forums.

I hope so as well. Kappel is great but can only go to two stars. To get a three star leader I'll have to look at the Czechs who stay behind.

On to Kazan

"Success after success is heading our way. I assure you. We have finally mopped up the last remnants of Bolshevik power in the far east and our own forces have launched a number of attack towards Bolshevik positions on the left and right banks of the Volga. Molchanov is even now besieging Kazan with his rebels while other Komuch rebels are moving to support him from the east. Stepanov has led a mixed force of Komuch units and Czech troops against Simbirsk while in the south our effort to take Saratov was repulsed. Unfortunately our General Bakich was killed in the fighting and his second Makhin is leading our forces back across the Volga after Chapaev arrived from the north with a strong force.

RUS_14.jpg

And as I was saying about the far east our General Diterkhs arrived at Blagoveshchensk to take the city supported by a detachment of Semenov's forces which was by themselves to weak to take the city from the Bolsheviks. It was a fine victory and Diterkhs is now being given a promotion for his successes in the far east against Bolshevik forces.

RUS_13.jpg

However their is other good news as well. Reforms have won us much support in the Samara region and our Siberian allies have begun sending the promised shipments of resources allowing us to strengthen our forces for the trials ahead. Popov and the other Left SR have arrived in Samara to support Galkin's Komuch's peoples Army against the Might of the Bolsheviks and we are even now planning new offensives against the Bolsheviks to ensure victory for the Komuch. Also of note is that more foreign interventionists have arrived. The Americans have sent a force to Vladivostock and more Japanese have arrived and a British Indian force is moving in from Persia to support the Turkmens against Bolsheviks forces in Central Asia.

I hope so as well. Kappel is great but can only go to two stars. To get a three star leader I'll have to look at the Czechs who stay behind.

Gaida! I have fond memories of the man. In fact, in my rather ho-hum performance against loki in a PBEM game, he was without question the highlight. Gaida the Proto-fascist Bolshie-slayer, yes. :)

Sounds like steady progress. Here's hoping you can take Saratov in the next turn.

Well I do find myself in a position to take it but If I can in anyone's guess. And Gaida may well be the best of those Czechs if I can get him up to three stars it would be good.

The Left Bank

"It has now become clear that securing the Positions on the left bank of the Volga is our primary objective. Saratov and Simbirsk are therefore primary objectives for our advance against the Bolsheviks. Equally we need to secure the Gold train at Kazan before the Reds can escape with it from Kazan station. However it is clear that this aim took a sharp blow when Molchanov suffered a sharp defeat against Chapaev who had previously been causing trouble in the south has swapped to the northern flank to trouble us their. While the other revolt forces are moving up to support until they arrive taking Kazan with our current forces in that region is now a distant dream it seems.

RUS_15.jpg

We have had other equally troubling reports of late as well. The Turkmen in Asia have been thrown into some disorder as several leaders of their cause have been killed recently in action against both Bolshevik and Green rebel forces. Right now they are desperately trying to reorganize their forces but it might be a long shot. Our British allies in the region may be able to help them out though. In better news our Siberian allies attack Berzin's force west of Ekaterinburg and apparently inflicted a sharp defeat. Other reports are less positive painting a picture that the only real gain from the battle was to trap Berzin behind the Urals. Staying on the subject of our Siberian allies we have formed a new government in Omsk with them called the Directory to try and coordinate our forces. But for the meantime we carry on as usual.

RUS_16.jpg

Equally our Left SR allies have been useful once again. In a dramatic moment one of them managed to shoot Lenin himself. While there may be side effects from so called Red terror right now the wars seem won. With Lenin badly wounded the Bolsheviks should tear themselves apart trying to figure out who will succeed him. But right now it seems he may still live so we must not get ahead of ourselves.

RUS_17.jpg

We were also successful in achieving our first objective the capture of Simbirsk. With this location under our control we are now one step closer to being able to launch a general offensive against the Red Hordes. Equally we've put Saratov under siege and Czech forces are beginning to advance from our positions on the Left bank. Soon the Bolsehviks will fall and we will be victorious."

RUS_18.jpg

It's good to see you managed to capture Simbirsk. It should give you a more secure foothold on the western side of the Volga and make it harder for the Red River Fleet to cut you off.

Shame about Kazan, I hope that situation gets rectified soon. :)
