I'm quite confused about how dams work. I've seen on streams that when things are added to water, the water rises and can get out of control for some time. I have been wanting to create a map with a waterfall at one end leading into a river which drains out in the ocean. If I were to create a dam in this river, would
the water overflow the dam because the water source is high up on the mountain instead of the river level? If so, how would this be fixed?
Thanks if anyone could give me any information

I like the dynamic water system, and the dam system looks great... but unrealistic when you build. Because seriously who builds a dam in real life without studying and taking the risk to flood the surrounding ??

Yeah I would think you would have to do some planning ahead of time of your city in the map editor, I know I am probably going spend weeks on carving out the map and waterways.

When the water spawner behind the dam reaches a certain level, it will stop producing water. However, like normal rivers when you dam them, they will flood portions of the land behind their flow of water until they make a space suitable for a reservoir. Like any ordinary dam, these dams will keep a certain amount of water flowing through them so the water doesn't overflow.

Anyone have a link to a stream with someone building a dam in the game? I'd love to see how that works. I know I read somewhere from a dev something about "poor planning/location can lead to some temporary flooding of areas, but no diasters are in the game yet.". So it sounds like the dam probably self-regulates the water levels probably, though the 1 or 2 screens I've see the water lvl in front of the dam is noticably lower than behind it.

I'm really curious about how much power they generate and if that can be affected by placement or upgraded (like better turbines). I think the 2 screens I've seen the dams were about the same width, and kinda small. Curious if you can make a wide river and have a really long dam.

Either way super excited!

Unfortunately this forum doesn't work with the timestamp bookmarks on the videos, but around 19:30 he is building the dam.

Thanks, I just came back to post that vid.
