PDM has some pretty strong railroaded events, like the Crimean War, the Treaty of Guadalupe, the Chinese Warlord Era, the Oriental Crisis and the Berlin Conference.
But to be fair, I don't mind them all that much. The AI is wonky and really needs some of this railroading to prevent silly results. The only event I am not too fond of is the "Warlord Era" thingy.
Still, despite PDM being much slower I can't really bring myself to go back to vanilla anymore. That mod just changes and tweaks way too much. Lots of that is actually behind the surface, so a non-modder might not notice it at first glance, so it is a bit like HOD in that regard. As a sidenote: The "exists = yes" addition discussed in the EU4 forums for events also seems to speed up PDM quite nicely. I think you could get up to a 10% speed boost by adding it to all the events.
As for my DBZ modmod, it is more or less a big compilation of personal fixes and additions. It removes these annoying spammy events (MORALE CRUSADERS!!!111) and tries to balance out things to prevent obvious first-order-strategies (e.g. always research Philosophy techs first asap). Oddly enough between all these tweaks, the biggest game changer was a simple fix that prevented the first few GPs from bloating their industry and devouring all the world's ressources. So instead of a 10k IND score USA you will now have 6 GPs with 4k to 3k IND points. I also like the fact that I managed to give rebels some teeth via army techs - it is a lot harder to just walk over them in the later stages of the game.
